2 month review DIY chicken coop

We have had our Petmate Superior Construction DIY coop for about two months now. We first placed it on our back porch and out of the weather because our chicks were too small to be on their own. We then moved it off the back porch for about a month and now we have moved it a little farther away to behind the garage.
The coop has withstood weather (lots of rain) and has held up well so far. For our 9 chickens it is perfect!

We have the larger version of this coop. We did stain it a pretty green with white trim. I also made a frame for the bottom out of pressure treated wood and hardware cloth to keep predators out. The pressure treated was to keep the wood off of the wet ground. The frame also helped to keep it all squared so the doors open and close easier.

We have the same coop for our six girls. Stained and sealed it before we put it together. It's decent quality less the nesting floor.

I have this coop. I just have two rescue chickens. They only like to sleep on the roost in the run. Not in side at all. They free range all day. Still on the fence about this chicken coop. My chickens are big and I don't think I could to many in it. They don't use the ramp just go from roost bar to nesting box.

Have the same coop, and I like it. I used Valspar honey gold stain and sealer.

I commented on the original video about the roofing. I probably should have added that this coop you're demonstrating has that plastic roof which is a heck of a lot better than those wooden rooves with the shingle-like surface. You might want to put some deck paint on the wooden part of the roof, but those plastic panels will last much longer than the shingled wooden ones on the pre-built coops.

Thanks for your review. I am looking for a coup like that and it is driving me crazy! The one problem I can see in your coup is the hight of your water. On this video it appears to high. The right hight should be at the smallest chicken's shoulder/back hight. Specially if they are eating pellets, they need a lot of water. So make it easier for them to get at it. No constipation, haha I wish more people would make a review of those coups, as one can't trust the reviews anymore! Sadly!

Thanks for watching and thanks for the the info. The height of the water might have been a touch high for a few of them at that time. But Judging from our back porch there was no issues with constipation ever LOL. Now the height is actually perfect for them. :)

We are still putting this model together. We are first time owners. Picking them up in Oct. I’m going to put in a different water system. www.amazon.com/dp/B083QRPKFP/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_api_glt_fabc_N8C7NDS1XQC5KBNFE5RM. You connect system to a large water container of your choice. It sits outside the coop. We are adding hardwire skirt around the parameter of the coop.

I also wondered if they would. I told my wife when we first got it that I felt it was too close. But they seem to make it up just fine

I bought this coop 2 weeks ago and when it rains the door with windows won't open. The 2 slides won't either

That of course is expansions of the wood. Not sure if painting will correct it. Paint will protect but not sure if paint will keep from expanding.

was it hard or fairly easy to move once you build it?? please let me know I'm thinking of buying this coop but I would need to move it a few times once it built

Simple remove 6 screws to separate the housing from the run area. You’ll need two people to move the sections though. Pretty simple. Thank you for watching:)

I have the same one. I put a piece of plywood under it and screwed it to the bottom and it slides easily

Did you modify the perches inside at all, or do your chickens like them as they come? Sleep all 9 easily enough?

Thanks for watching. I did not modify this coop but I did build my own coop later, and I used this coop by putting it inside the one I built. The chickens use this one at night.

The chickens did like the perches. They just outgrew the coop.

Thanks for the quick reply. The zoning in our part of this county allows for up to 6 hens and no roosters for a backyard flock, so of course we bought 10 thinking that some may die. But wouldn’t you know it, all 10 are still going strong. Looks like I might have to build an addition on to this thing.
