Chicken Coop Build, Our Recently Bought Chicken Coop Double in Size.

In this video we make our recently bought Petmate Superior Construction 70401D and reviewed chicken coop double in size. We felt the chickens would like a little bit larger coop to run around and play in. I used the original structure as a guide and expanded the coop and run. So far our chicken love the new area they now have. I hope you enjoy and have a blessed day!

You did a great job of remaking your coop. I have this same coop but haven't decided what or how to modify it yet,for me I need both more inside floor space and also extending the run by several ft.

Thank you. The chickens really like it. Their is more shade and more room from the larger run. They are so funny. They play keep away with random things they find for hours. I hope you have a blessed day my friend.

Wow. Pretty smart way to expand the coop. I noticed it wasn’t tied to the ground. Is there any concern on wind blowing it over?

Looks awesome! What are the overall dimensions after doubling it? Thinking of buying 2 and connecting them.

Well...we spoil our girls. I wouldn't have more than 3 in there. It says 10 chickens could live in a coop like this. I could see 10 sleeping in one that size. But, it just did not seem like enough room underneath for them to play during the day. If you are just using it for sleep and you let them free range during their waking hours (a lot of people do that) then this might be fine for 10. Now that it has gotten cold we notice that the girls all sleep on the side that we built. I think its warmer. :) Have a blessed day!

Its has been a while since I built this, just doing rough number in my memory and it was about $140.00 at the time. Took me me with painting about 8 hours. That's a rough estimate. Hope that helps. Have a blessed day =)

I don’t really have the skill set to do this but I have ten hens. First time owner. Anyway to expand the house easily or buy another brand off eBay and add them? They have been sleeping together from day one and I don’t think they would sleep in another box apart from each other ..

Hi Sharon. I'm not sure. Our chickens tend to sleep in one area, and nest in one area. We like the room for them to play in more than any thing else. Good luck and have a blessed day =)

Do you have a link to that paint? I am having such a hard time finding pay anywhere. Also, do you live in an area where you get snow?

Hello, the paint is from Home Depot. www.homedepot.com/p/BEHR-1-Gal-White-Exterior-Barn-and-Fence-Paint-03501/100200471 We do get a little snow, it held up good however we have moved since then and I cannot say how it is doing now. Best of luck and have a blessed day =)

Question, will a bobcat be able to get in?

Good question! We have bobcats, snakes and coyotes! We took the chicken wire to the ground and then dug several inches into the ground...took the chicken wire into those trenches and buried it. Then we added more on top to keep anything from digging. If we so much as see any evidence of digging we will be getting some electric chicken fence. But, we are pretty sure this is enough as it sits. Best luck, friend! Let us know how it turns out.

Nice add on, but if you can build, why buy? Some of us have no skills and we have to settle for these prefabs or pay for it to be built for us. BTW, your add on will probably outlast the original. 😊 How's it all holding up?

Hi Torrance. Its been a little bit since I have built this but I didn't use any more than what I show in the first 30 seconds of the video, with the exception of some staples and screws. Good luck and have a blessed day =)
