The Tudor Pelagos 39 has been in my collection for about two months now. I purchased it immediately after release, and my impressions have changed just a bit since I first got it. I wanted to review what about the watch is different with more time and answer some questions I've had since I picked it up.

Fact is if you wear a watch it's going to get scratched. Doesn't matter if it's a Patek, Rolex or Tudor, all are prone to scrathes. They are capable of lasting a lifetime. Just get them serviced once in a while. They're meant to be worn, not to be locked away in a safe.

Great review and glad you love it , great watch indeed . Picked mine up from my AD Thursday, they had only received two pieces since the day of release which is quite bonkers . Just to add my bezel is fantastic, it’s has a Rolex quality to the rotation and click. It’s a faultless beautiful watch which will be worn and scratched with pride . A great tool watch in my opinion . Just to add the bezel insert does look fantastic, grey then black as you move the watch and to be honest I haven’t noticed the dial being sunburst , just a lovely black .

Two points you brought up here that I completely agree upon: First- Titanium grade 2 is more prone to scratches than grade 5. Most of the manufacturers use grade 2 and if there's scratches they'll be visible. Titanium is lighter, no argument about it but scratches on SS can be easily removed by just polishing. I've had a Titanium watch and no matter how Titanium oxidizes the scratches will remain visible. I'm not familiar how scratches on Titanium watch can be removed and if that will hurt the surface. I don't have problems with SS, since I've removed scratches before and it worked out perfectly for me. Second: the clasp- some people find it too wide and it'll depend on the wrist size to determine whether it'll look weird or not. If yes then the rubber strap should be used which btw is a nice treat. After all it's all about if you like the watch or not. Some watch fans are all about protection others don't mind the wear and tear. Whatever it is, enjoy your watch and use it in good health. Good review by the way!

I picked this up right before Christmas. Got the call from my AD. I love it. My bezel action was sticky at first. But I just kept working it. I heard that when they are newer that stickiness can occur. FWIW, people that come here with a sticky bezel, once I got it worked out, I no longer have to push down to turn it. There is a catch mechanism at the 12 to help lock it in to avoid play, I assume. But now the thing clicks like a dream. My wife thinks I’m a weirdo bc she’ll randomly see/hear me turning the bezel lol

re: toughness of the bezel. I have really worked out my Pelagos 42, including hitting a big black steel post, while running at night. It was a massive clunk! There were bits of metal in the grip around the bezel, and my immediate thoughts were of how much this was going to cost. I got home, and picked the metal shards from the bezel grip with a safety pin, and noticed that the teeth were almost perfect. The metal shards were from the steel post, not from the Pelagos. The watch was not damaged except for some slight marks on the top of the grip teeth. To sum up, this is a tough watch. If you want a daily wearer, trust any Pelagos. Why would you want a overly shiny Rolex? The finish is cool, stealthy, and will last.
@timtim2949
@timtim2949 11 ай бұрын
Note that the titanium on the 39 is not the same as the 42. The 42 is made with a harder grade of titanium and might just survive some more punishment than the 39. Good to hear about your watch, though.

This is a great follow up video. I particularly enjoyed the bezel and light play discussion, as well as showing the "ghost" bezel look in the video. I absolutely loved this on my now 7" (was slightly bigger) wrist. I find the BB58 borderline small. Maybe it's the bezel being almost 40 that does it, but that and the lightness really gives it a vintage Sub feel on wrist. I was fortunate enough to try on a vintage Sub only a couple weeks after trying the P39 and was surprised at how similar they feel. Obviously the Tudor has a much more solid build quality than those old Rolex bracelets though. I really would love a blue version with those bezel characteristics and the same more tempered blue from the FXD. That would make me snap and text my AD.

Great review. I appreciate hearing your longer term thoughts. I was really excited for this one, but trying it on in the store and comparing to my BB58, I was underwhelmed. I wish they kept the old recessed indices from the larger Pelagos, or added some kind of frame around them to give the dial a bit more depth and detail. It's a cool watch and a decent value for what it is, but I think they could have done better here.

It looks pretty used for only 8 weeks. And you can clearly see that brown titanium tone. Something you really have to like. For a real dive watch it lacks of a bezel you can easily read, especially when it is hit by sunlight coming through the surface when you are diving in the ocean. Therefore it is "just" a desk diver.

I have a Pélagos 39 waiting at the AD, saw it today. All the concerns I had are cleared (darker color, light weight, sunray bezel) expect for the long clasp. I see you like it but do you find it (the clasp) uncomfortable or unflattering? Much appreciated.

I don't think it's unflattering, but the comfort part is super subjective. It's a long clasp for sure. You'd have to try it for yourself!

Any owner comments on the sharpness of the bracelet and clasp? Multiple owners saying it's like wearing razor blades on wrist but others seem to not have any issues.

The one thing which I feel Tudor is not telling people and arguably why should they! Is that Titanium grade 2 is a very very soft material! One drop and its hello dent! The same cannot be said for grade 5 tiatanium as well as stainless steel! I have worked in the aeronautical engineering side of things for nearly 30 years now and while I do like Tudor and own the GMT I will never buy the Pelagos or the FXD. Good video thought thanks.

Wow, seems like you scratch up your watches quite a bit. The pelagos you have had for 2 months lots of scratches already, it would take me 2 or 3 years perhaps even 5 years to even get that amount. To be fair I don't wear a watch to work I work in maintenance wearing a watch would just get in my way, I would need to take it off and put it in my pocket so many times in a day. Therefore I only wear a watch on my days off and only when I am going out somewhere or if I happen to be on vacation.

It’s not the whole bezel falling off that’s the most concerning, it’s the inlaid white numerals within the bezel insert falling out that’s most common from what I’ve seen online.

Great job capturing the ghosting bezel. Hopefully this style becomes a Tudor staple, like Rolex and the Sub. My worry with Tudor pieces, as you alluded to, is there’s always ‘the next thing’ at the moment. The BB Pro felt a bit out of date as soon as this dropped. Styles aren’t getting much time to settle into the range. Maybe this is Tudor just having a bit of a re-set and things will settle for a couple of years now, bar some colour/material changes.
@HarrisonElmore
@HarrisonElmore Жыл бұрын
I tried! Glad it came through. I think Tudor will keep doing what they're doing and rotating through watches and styles, discontinuing the stuff that doesn't work. I'd imagine in the end, their goal is to have a catalog like Omega where there's something for everyone. Then Rolex can keep to the core models while Tudor can play the everything is available game. Just a hunch based on the current rate of releases and how well that's working for them.

The BBPand the Pelagos are two different Watch styles with two significant features. You don’t buy a BBP if you want a diver lol. How could it be out of date when the Pelagos dropped?

Well, the nice thing is that you can take 5-min with the green side of a dish sponge and remove most all the scratches on grade 2 titanium. :-) Unlike anything that is SS.

I never let my watches get polished, because then I have to apply the scratches all over again… And it begins the moment you wear the watch.

During the lock down my bezel came off. If you come off you're not pouring it back on-period. There are ceramic bell bearings and springs and when it comes off poof! They gone

That dmg in 2 months? Wtf are you guys doing with ur watches... bashing it against door sills everyday? And Bezel getting knocked off... again what? There is no way you can hit the bezel and it just pops off... even with constant pulling force u cant get the bezel off. You need to pry it open. It is definitely not easy to knock the bezel off man.

I have the new aquaracer that has the almost same adjustment. What I find as a quirk for me and on this, the back part of the clasp can show and I keep getting paranoid it's going to catch on something.
@HarrisonElmore
@HarrisonElmore Жыл бұрын
Ahhh interesting. I suppose that's an issue with all watches with a clasp? Or is it because the last link can raise away from the clasp and show more of a gap?
@paulbonaventura4969
@paulbonaventura4969 9 ай бұрын
It’s because the last link is almost a pivot and the clasp can angle up a little bit.

2 months? That clasp looks like it's been worn for 20 years. How did you scratch it so much? The ghosting bezel in light is one of the coolest things about this watch. Not of fan of the bezel overhanging the case though. I'm undecided on this watch, I guess I need to see it in person.

He wears this like a "beater" watch. He mentions in his initial review of the watch that he wears it while jogging, working, etc. So basically he is wearing the Pelagos 39 like a G-Shock, so the wear is definitely going to show. Most of us will be desk diving with the Pelagos 39 so the scratches will be minimal.
