G'Day viewers!
Join me as I take my Old Town canoe out and spend two nights wild camping on a beautiful Australian lake. I practice some bushcraft by building a cool new tarp shelter, go on the hunt for some bush tucker, give the fishing another go and just enjoy the beautiful autumn weather.
Hopefully you guys don't mind a long-ish video. It was such an awesome trip that it was hard for me to cut it back.
Hope you all enjoy it.

.............Congratulations to you and Laura on your upcoming marriage !!....Yall make a lovely couple...guess you will be buying a two person canoe now ? The length of your video is fine...editing and choice of music outstanding !!.....As is your choice of content. I love outback adventures in Australia...especially campfire cooking/dining with nice adult beverage.....Tell me please, what bird or animal is making its call while you are dousing your fire at the end of the vid ?......I hear it in nearly all Australian outdoor vids and will google it if you will give me a name.....Wishing you and Laura all happiness and good health...Congratulations !!

Another interesting adventure thanks Scotty and great to see you trying new and different things. A note for the future, don't leave Blue Tongue lizards in the water, give them a lift back to terra firma where they can warm up. The young ones get a little to adventurous but aren't good swimmers, remaining cold too long makes the food in their stomach rot which poisons (kills) them, they need heat to process there food. You don't know what you don't know!

Mark Dolence hey mate, yeah in hindsight I wish I gave him a lift to shore. I often see other reptiles like water dragons etc out swimming so I figured this guy knew what he was doing and I shouldn’t interfere. Now I wish I had. I feel bad for the poor little guy. He wasn’t too far from shore so hopefully he made it. At least I know for next time.

@@ScottysGoneWalkabout All good mate, we learn something new every day. I found a young Blue Tongue in my pool about 4 weeks ago. Got it out, dried it off, showed the kids, held it in my warm hands for about 10-15min and let it go again in the garden. I have the same book of edible bush tucker, absolutely agree with you, it's a wealth of knowledge. Keep doing what you're doing, anything outdoors is great. My next adventure is a 3 night snowshoe hike from Perisher to Charlotte Pass in July with my twin 6yr old boys and 8yr old daughter, its has taken 2yrs of learning, trial and error to finally be comfortable that I can lead it safely without worrying my wife! LOL

If you want to catch catfish you need to get a bobber and put something oily or smelly on the hook. Something like chicken livers, or raw meat (could be hard to pack in). For anything else I would recommend getting some small lizard imitations and throwing it at the weed beds, or get some spinners (rooster tails). Throw towards the bank in shaded areas. Other than that it seems odd that nothing is biting, especially in remote areas like that that don;t have much pressure. Rooster Tails are probably your best bet. I've always had my best luck with them when I pack in somewhere. Cheers

I just realized, beside's your quite demeanor and quality of video's, what I truly enjoy-- that's your reverence for your country and all it offer's. It's really neat to watch. I've mentioned this before in another comment. Sydney was an R-and-R port for us, while in Vietnam. Myself and two of my buddies took a week of r-n-r there in 1970. I still remember the true friendliness and warm welcoming we received from everyone we met. Much better than we received from our own country. I have held the "Aussie's" in very high regard ever since. Enjoying traveling along from Colorado, US. Be safe. Roger

Great vid mate, Enjoyed it to the end. Re the fishing, On that lake try casting a half meter diving rapala minno to the lake edge and swim it back into the deep. You first have to watch the water for signs of whats going on. There may have been gar fish smooching the surface. I always carry in a kg of plane flour for both bait and flat bread (Fresh taco's) . Also a crab trap may have scored you a back up feed. And lastly, Get on the water before sun up and fish the sunrise, And then again at sun down. They are your peak times, Particularly on still back country salt water lakes.

Also, just for our non-Aussie audience, the guy who made Scotty's knife - 'Gidgee' - that nickname is also a name for an underwater hand-spear. And the common name for a type of Australian wattle tree, the Acacia Cambagei.

Loved this video Scotty. To keep your bread and wraps fresh for a few days, you need to store it in a zip lock bag with as much air squeezed out as you can. I find the zip lock bags you get from Ikea are the best. They also have a double lock seal for the win. But you can use just your generic brand from Woolies or Coles. Never store bread in paper. Or sucks the moisture out of it and leaves it stale in just a few hours. Love that you make a variety of tasty dinners in the bush. You’re a top bloke!

It's really refreshing to hear someone outside the US talk about the importance in knowing the history and culture of the people who came before when it's such a hot debate over here in the states. Really great video as always and great insights! Also, for anyone interested, I believe in the states we call it seabeans, it's a foraged item but more and more they're seen in the nicer markets on the west coast here. Great as a garnish just like you used it since they have a strong salty flavor, obviously pairs well with seafood.

One good way to keep bread fresh in the bush is to wrap it tightly in a brown paper bag, and then seal this bag in a plastic Ziploc bag, pushing out as much of the air as possible before sealing. It's not the most environmentally friendly approach, but it works (you can re-use both the paper and the plastic bags, so there is that.) The plastic bag and the near vaccum prevents the bread from going stale, while the brown paper between the plastic bag and your bread keeps the bread from getting soggy due to condensation. Adding a short serrated bread knife does wonders for your kit, at least if you plan on bringing out bread that you will use in a sandwich form. Finally, simple placement of your bread at the top of your bag, or in an outer pocket that isn't going to be cinched tightly by straps, is a good way to keep your bread from getting crushed. Cheers.
