Shaming of these owners will not be tolerated. These two people where some of the best clients I’ve ever had, at no point did they give me any excuses for their dogs behaviors, which 90% of clients do. “He who lives in a glass house shall not throw stones” or something like that.

Many dog owners like this couple are not bad owners, they are good owners but lack the knowledge to apply the best training methods, to correct unwanted behaviour. Beckman has the best training methods, the proof is in the pudding. with the positive results in behaviour.

These dogs really are amazingly trainable in my opinion. Yes, they are wild acting, but notice they keep 1 on 1 attention(eye contact) to you when walking. These are very fixable dogs with some patience. They want to please their owners, but just don't know how.👍

It has to be hard to hear "You've allowed this behavior to thrive." The reality is, this is the bottom line for the majority of dog owners. They behave the way we allow and teach. It takes tough love to tell people like it is, and courage for owners to own up. I commend all who are in search of and acting on the desire to have healthy dogs, and a healthy life 💕🫶🏻

for me as a beginner dog trainer, this was the hardest fact i had to face and im super terrified of it ever happening to me again because it was a pain to resolve, i posted a direct comment i will not repeat it here as its super long, i explain my similar situation to these dogs in the video. But hearin or realizing this is the first step to greatness if you ask me, only when you know how to fail can you realize how to succeed instead. I'd like to take a moment and throw some shame on the people that go "yeah the owners are bad etc etc", i have yet to see a bad owner seek the advice of dog trainers, let alone such dog trainers as Joel. These are people that are willing to go above and beyond for their dogs, like any owner really should if you ask me, they are elderly and could easily say F this, we give the dogs away and be done, instead they make the trip to the trainer, they get the best trainer possible to help their dogs, they spare no expense, and they are enough self aware to know that they dont know to handle these dogs and for that they seek help, they seek someone who can explain things to them and guide them through a process where they bond even more with the dogs, shame on everyone who thinks these are bad owners, these are the best owners a dog can wish for, someone who will do anything and everything for them to be the happiest fluffiest doggos around

Impulse control is so important for these dogs to learn. These owners absolutely chose the right trainer to help them. Watching the change in this dog during this first session was amazing. She started slowing her brain and think before she acted. Over time, consistently following Joel’s methods will improve the quality of their life. Kudos to you both. These training methods have helped us teach our dog to chill and learn self control.

Joel, idk if you’re just always like this or if you’ve been hitting a groove lately but notice how once the dogs realize you’re teaching them to be calm, once they realize you’re providing RELIEF from their own anxiety, they’re attracted to you like magnets. THAT is how alpha stuff works - you become the leader they WANT to be around bc you help them be the best version of themselves. Who doesn’t want that? I’ve been watching you for a while now and dogs have started instantly gravitating towards me just like how that one dog was with you. Not all dogs will, but a lot of dogs can sense it and they’re pulled towards you like gravity. That’s how you know you’re doing it right!!

With respect, in my personal opinion that's not "alpha stuff"so much as it is leadership. The word "alpha" has a kind of "biggest, baddest, toughest of the bunch" connotation affiliated with it, especially regarding dog training, whereas leadership is just that; being a leader. Leaders are the one you want to follow, whose respect is earned through quality leadership rather than being "tougher" then anyone else. But that's just my personal perspective, others may have had a different experience than I when it comes to an "alpha."

I first heard about aiming for a calm dog from Cesar Millan. This is a great example that crazy energy doesn’t mean happy, a calm dog is a much more relaxed and confident dog. I think the way you teach the non cue rules is everything. Setting boundaries and expectations with the dog leads to such better behaviour, and translates to so many environments.

Awesome to see how fast and simple it is to just create a boundary. My GSD/pit was a nutcase, a lot like these, when I first got him. Not giving any rewards ( going out the door, greeting when I got home, treats, etc) when he was "up" or super excited helped a ton. He got nothing until he was calm, then he got something he liked when I saw he was relaxed. Now when I get home he just stays in his bed and wags his tail. No more jumping or bowling people over. He follows out the door now instead of leaping out of it as soon as it opened. Then 2 years later I found your vids. Love them, and learning a lot to build off some basic instincts I already had.

Much respect for these owners for getting the help they & their dogs need. I've been there before, and not taken the necessary steps. They are making their world a better place and providing a great example for the rest of us.

I use the exact same method (grab, butt flip and blocking) so I can confirm it just works. Very fast. One of my dogs is a Swiss Shepherd, big boy and inthe middle of puperty. He is very calm and relaxed for his breed as I taught him that from day 1 though he is VERY headstrong (more than my Akita). Sweet and playful but dominant at times, testing me sometimes due to puperty. He rarely challenges me but if he does (example: I stop playing a game), he jumps and takes my arm into his mouth (not biting, that I stopped a immediately). I then just grab and hold him. He is strong but has zero chance and gets out of being nutty right away, shakes to get rid of the craziness and then looks at me with totally different, nice eyes. It's so simple, so easy to understand for dogs as it's their language, it doesn't hurt them and is fair as it works fast. But yet I live in Germany and these positive only women (I'm female myself but normal) call me abuser for this while they just stuff their dogs with treats with zero results and thus the dog suffering from stress. The world has gotten insane.

These owners are brave, I mean that sincerely. 2 mals in one household as pets? Mals already require so much, even mixed. It was interesting seeing the opening grab because the other dog immediately stopped. Seems a little like the female with ears down really gets so excited and winds everyone up. Both of these dogs have tons of energy! It was also amazing to see that as soon as a boundary was applied they just went "oh. Ok." Very cool. It's like they just didn't know they couldn't behave that way.

Two poorly socialized dogs in the same house? Not a coincidence at all. It’s what happens to any social being how has no limits imposed on it, and simply acts on impulse. There’s a video online where a young puppy acted out aggressively towards the owner after it was petted from its blindside. The mother corrected that behavior on-the-spot. You could practically hear her say, “Don’t ever let me see you do that again!!”

It’s so funny how once dogs like this learn to take control of their own energy, it’s like this frantic loop closes and everything clicks into place. They become insanely intelligent and observant dogs who are bulletproof in any situation. There’s a reason Mals are used so much in the military, they can handle life and death.

These dogs reminded me of when I was a kid, when I had a mentor in dog training who had malenois, and she was "old school" in her methods. As I got older, the "positive reinforcment" school of thought took over in everything I learned and I started to feel sad about the way I had been taught to train dogs. I never really got rid of the older methodology though. Like the malenois trainer, I kept dividing things into "tricks" that got treats and "good manners" that didn't. Watching your videos has helped me feel vindicated in sticking to the old school method. It really does help the dogs more than constant clicking and treating.

I love how firm but kind you were to the owners about their dog's behavior s. It's never easy to hear that what you thought was the right thing to do in training wasn't enough. I enjoy watching your videos and they have definitely helped me be a better trainer to my dogs. Especially the butt flip/ touch. I have a rescue that is a Frenchie/pug mix and boy is he a stubborn one! But I have been applying everything you teach to these people, and it works. It's an everyday and all day practice. My dog's behavior has changed so much in the 4 months that I have had him. Thank you for posting these videos. Very helpful. Your podcast has also become a go to for me as well.

Grabbing my dog by his collar to calm him down has had such a big impact on how he behaves. I am very thankful that I learned this here. He had exactly the same problems like these calming down and because of Beckmann's methods he changed a lot. The first thing I had to understand is it's almost always about impulse control. It doesn't matter if he wants to hunt, sees a cat or runs through the door.

Your methods are the best. Every time I go up to my mom's house I take her medium sized dog that doesn't get out enough on a walk and use almost all these methods. When we come back she is so relaxed and chill. These methods work 100% and you don't need excessive amounts of money or special gear or fancy gadgets. They just work on a fundamental level.

Amazing work guys. These owners that put the effort into the operant conditioning wanted to take it a step further in the effort seeing all four of them struggling. They are improving the quality of the lives of two dogs that some people would return to rescue or just let the dog live in that state of mind. Kudos to those people

The videos are always great. I don’t have a dog- not home enough, plus I prefer cats. But I love psychology and learning. These videos are always great to observe. I appreciate your pinned comment- I think you should always have that pinned under every video. Even if someone has been a “bad owner”- the fact they are with you and paying big money means they are trying. It’s so awful when I read the comments and people are shaming an owner. People just don’t know enough on their own. Plus, being a bully to another person is worse than accidentally doing something wrong in dog training.

I work with someone who has a crazy German Shepherd like this, she said they have to wait in til he ‘grows out of it’. He might when he’s 15! I’ve made some video suggestions and good local trainer suggestions, but deaf ears. The fact these owners turned up for the training is HUGE! Good on them. The transformation in that dog was lovely to see, smart pup.

Unless you have owned a dog like this you will never understand the level of intensity they have. My rescue was kicked so hard that her back leg stopped working for a year and she was then poisoned by a poisonous caterpillar that could have killed her. It left her mentally FULL ON and difficult to calm. It took a good few years but she is now a lovely girl who still has loads of energy but she listens. It's hard work but she is extremely loving and sweet

I've been training my four month old norwegian elkhound/golden retriever mix for like five days using these methods and aside from jumping (that's next on my list) she comes when I call (boops her nose on my hand and lets me grab her collar) she sits at the door when we open it and doesn't pull on the leash anymore, and leaves things when I ask. This is my first large breed dog, and I was so stressed about training her properly at home to make sure I didn't have an unchecked big dog running around. I am still so surprised by how fast this training has worked already, I have been devouring all these videos so I can have the best trained dog in the neighborhood (I hope). So far so good. Thanks for sharing these methods without forcing us to buy a product.

Love this video.. a lot of people have multiple dogs and I would say face similar if same issues.. (I have and friends that I am thinking of right now).. When you have multiple dogs they do feed off each other.. and controlling multiple dogs can be a huge challenge.. Great job on the owners for recognizing that they needed more help, and not returning one dog.. thank you for allowing us to view the video.. because without the owners permission I do not think Joel could show them on video... (Maybe I am wrong on that)

I had been subscribed and all of a sudden I quit getting your videos. I just re-subscribed. You have helped me So much with two large dogs my son left at my house. Due to your videos, I'm - for the most part - able to loose leash the largest dog. Prior to employing your techniques, he had dragged me down and caused me to go to a chiropractor due to injuries. For some reason this video really made your doorway method "click" in my head and make sense. I think I'm going to try this with my shepherd/golden mix. It also helps that it was on two "well trained" dogs because it shows the difference between teaching a behavior and training an attitude.

First thing I noticed was specifically the embarrassment (for a lack of better terms) in his face in the first scene! Which is the absolute best most productive emotion we can feel because it cleary shows values in a parson. To me this presents him valuing his dogs well being and happiness, and his household.

I've never though about praticing my dog fake off leash click haha thats spot on! Thank you for all your advice it made such a big difference for my 1 year GSD training ! I still have trouble with dog reactivity but I need people with dogs to practice..(soon) and new places he is stress and don't know what to do...I'm trying new places with him only when I have all the time in the world to do a good training session. I have trouble getting upstairs in my house without my dog running upstairs and pushing me to get there first but thats my fault..I didn't show him what I want from him.

This has literally been the best video for me ever!!! I get it. I have taught sit, downs, stays, walk on leash. All the things! But when free or on her own she is wild! Like these clients, I have done everything. They should be commended for adopting these mixes. Sometimes you just need to know how to calm them. Your techniques work! Thank you so much! You think when you teach the commands it will teach calm. Thank you so much. Two different things commands and calm off leash! You can teach commands and not have a respectful dog!

These dogs reminded of young kids hopped up on soda and candy. They have so much energy and dont know what to do with it. Also, the owners shouldn't be shamed, but Joel did a great job telling the owners that they played a role. Owners constantly telling their dogs to sit and stay becomes meaningless. My sister would tell her kid, "you're going to go to your room," 20 times a day without him ever going to his room. Words without action become empty threats and even a dog will pick up on that.

The dogs frequently checking in with Joel(?) is a good sign. Seems like at least the one is people pleasers, which is easier to work with. The dogs seem to have high potential.

I have a Belgian Malinois like the Big dog! He is a rescue and I’ve had him a month and we’ve been working on all of these things. Joel -you’re training philosophy, no nonsense and realistic perspective is refreshing. The firm and kindness you show both dogs and owners is wonderful and positive praise with a honest here’s what needs to be corrected is so helpful!

Awesome job Joel...really makes a lot of sense. I have a Malinois / Shephard mix 5 months old. Shes a great dog. I will use some of these methods to calm her excitement down when we come home or when my kids bring their dogs over to my home. I have really accomplished a lot of good things with her early on, but I really need her to be calmer in those situations. She just loves to be around people and other dogs but I need her to learn that not all people and dogs are friendly and approachable. She will bark at first with her hair standing up but then she will approach in a friendly manor.

Thank you for this excellent breakdown of a number of your methods. I realized that this was the perfect showing of what I think is your #1 lesson in dog training, and that’s “Be The Boss.” If I'm not the Boss, none of the other trainings will work. I also heard the Boss’s critically different tone of voice, stance, and perfect corrections. I can’t forget the Boss’s attitude toward success, which is needed behind “I’ll Do This All Day.” It only took three corrections. The owners can’t stop the training too soon as they will be tested. Don’t let up. My Roxy girl had to master each method before we moved on. Thank you, Joel, for another excellent, jam-packed video that we all can do at home.

So true, once you have this “I’m the boss” mindset and you stick to it, everything eventually fails into place 🐾🤍

It all has to do with the owner being calm, confident and assured. Also with setting rules and boundaries, i.e. the dog has to sit and wait before going through doors, etc.

11:35 Woow.. A totally different dog. This 2 adorable dog, overexcited happy teenagers who are saved and loved by their owners ❤️. Lots of energy.. calmness training. Wish you all the best with this 2 gems. And so happy that they chose you to lead them on the right path of training 🙌.

I was blown away by the results shown in this video. Once these owners start implementing these techniques they are going to have 2 amazing dogs. You’re right the proof is definitely in the pudding. Wow.

That as to be one of the best videos ever on dog training. Thank you for showing us people who have two dogs of slightly similar behaviour... We learnt so much from your video.. A big thanks.

Beautiful dogs (also the grey one that I saw for the first I think - not Connery lol, who is also beautiful of course). And the owners who will get control of them in no time now that they got the information and training needed, they have a huge heart you can tell. Not one but two big sized rescue doggies, way to go folks!!! 🤍🤍
