I have a cheap HFT press like yours. I had to weld shims on the slide bar to make the press go straight down instead of side to side, you might want to do the same.

Hi, Nice video!! could you please help me understand, when changing connecting rod kit, do you go for over size pin or same size pin? Thanks

Awesome video on the procedure; not the faint of heart or typical DIY shop at home. That "single cylinder crankshaft assembly fixture" is $1,000 on Parts Unlimited! I suppose buying the new OEM parts (thrust washers, crank pin, and bearing) and taking it to a motorcycle repair shop wouldn't run too much on labor?

Looks like the dial gauge is right above the v-block or very close. That is not an accurate way of checking run out, the only thing you are going to read there is if the shaft journal is out of round.
@donkarstedt16376 жыл бұрын
Yes check it at the ends of the shaft where is could runout, not on the bearing journal on the truing stand. Amateurs! WTF school was this???

Ik this vid is old by now but i have a 2007 rmz 250 that needs the crank rebuilt but you cant pop the rod pin out with a press bc of the 2 sides being in the way, the only way to get the pin out is to seperate the weights but i have no way to do this, im more than happy to hear some ideas :)

I dont see how the jig holds each web exactly opposite each other, seemed like there was no recess, but there must be some way it does that. When pressing together, I see the use of the caliper, but if you press too tightly, you have to dismantle it and start over? Seems a bit hit and miss.
@dmsheckler4 жыл бұрын
The two webs are identical size and shape as are the holes that they fit in on the jig. The crank pin physically cannot go in one web and not the other if it is not in alignment.

@@MattJonesYT and? What does that have to do with it being a manual press and literally having to be the biggest fuckwit in order to hurt your self with it? Were talking about crushing your hands here not shit exploding. 😒
@big800wildcat2 жыл бұрын
@@YeeThirty Wow, you really don't get it. No, we are NOT talking about crushing your hands. When you are pressing something and it breaks when it shouldn't, pieces can fly out of there with enough force that if your hands are in the way you're going to really regret it.

The press plate came from our local KTM dealer. I posted the part number and his phone number at the end of the video. The crankshaft installing jig and the crankshaft alignment tools were purchased through Parts Unlimited. You must go through a dealer to purchase those tools as well (you could use the KTM dealer). The part numbers for those tools are also listed at the end of the video. Thanks for watching.
