It would be nice to see a rivalry begin between Oklahoma's/Louisiana's 6A state champ vs Texas' 6A state champ each year. Jenks and Bixby played Mansfield teams this year, they should step up and see if they can contend with the likes of Allen, Westlake, etc.

Florida kids were talking trash a few years ago when St. Thomas Aquinas barely beat Southlake Carrol.(I think that was the matchup). To me it was amazing that Carrol kept it a game. That just shows how far ahead Texas HS football really is.

Westlake on the other hand had a weak schedule all year long last year and only got a good game on state semis. Katy actually had some competition this year whilst Westlake destroyed every team they faced except for Trinity.

This is the 3rd round of the playoffs. A team does not get to decide which region they compete with in the playoffs. In Texas the UIL decides based on location the routs each team will go through to reach the championship. There are 4 regions in Texas 6a football. Region 1 consists of El Paso, West Texas and Dallas schools. Region 2 consists of a mixture of South Dallas and Houston schools Region 3 is mainly Houston area schools and some schools in south Texas Region 4 is Austin, San Antonio and the Rio Grand Westlake is in region 4 which includes the Rio grand Valley. The RGV (which is where the team Featured in this video is from) isn’t known for football and is the weakest in region 4. And region 4 itself is probably the weakest region to play in, but because Westlake is located in region 4 they have to compete in that area. This was a pretty bad game for UTR to cover. Not only that but Westlake is in 6A Division 2, the weaker 6a division. Look out for the quarterfinal In 6A Division 2: Austin Westlake vs Austin Vandegrift. That game should showcase a much higher level of play. Then they likely get an easy opponent against Bridgeland in the semifinal. Then their likely toughest test of the year against Katy in the championship.

I remember IMG and Mater Dei got so heated arguing who was the best it forced the coaches to make it happen. Duncanville played St Johns powerhouse in DC, IMG powerhouse in Florida and Mater Dei powerhouse in California in consecutive seasons. Win lose or draw they want all the smoke. Westlake beats up on future post office workers and gets praised I don't get it. That's all I'm saying.

@@losdog911 I think Westlake is beatable. Allen, SLC, North Shore and Duncanville would even give them a run. Good news is MD already came and whooped Duncanville. Duncanville is a great measuring stick because they are without a doubt among the best in Texas. Depending on how much Southlake Carroll beats Duncanville will tell us where the best in Texas is at. And there’s a possibility Southlake Carroll could lose to Duncanville also. I personally think Southlake Carroll is the best in Texas THIS year and is my favorite to win the D1 championship but In the case of Duncanville winning or how close they play Southlake Carroll, that should tell the country everything we need to know about the gap between Texas and Cali football. We’ll be able to come to a conclusion about which state is better by the end of the season. Either way despite what Texas fans say everyone and their moms dog knows Cali is the best when it comes to high school football.

@@blitz12399 That's a decent measuring stick but not really, styles make fights. A team can be dominant on the O line and you're weak there, or a team could have a dominant D line and have a terrible secondary. You could blow a team out and that team could beat the team you lost too because of different strengths and weaknesses. It's a little different with teams like Mater Dei because they have 30+ D1 players, perfect example is they lost the #4 player in the country against Duncanville for the entire season and no one even mentions it. Me watching Texas from a far it looks like Duncanville has the most talented team but that doesn't mean best. Westlake looks like the best coached team with a highly talented QB but I don't know what that looks like when he gets bust in the mouth. Texas D1 playoffs is interesting I wish Westlake was playing in them.

Just know that Mater Dei would beat Westlake by 40. These guys don’t impress me. Cali ball is too advanced. Westlake would probably be rank 10 in the state of California. Competition is better out here. Hate on it but ask Duncanville lmao

Mater Dei is literally a team full of the best Cali players. If a Texas school were to do the same, they'd run circles around any Cali school. Hate on it but it's the truth. Texas talent is on another level.

well they sure did. Hope they win the 4A D1 title. Not the best team in Texas. LBJ had trouble in Class 5A before they dropped down.

@@rippasix210 First off let me give you a lesson, LBJ always have been a 4A team we only have 800 kids in enrollment but due to racial binding moves the UIL moved LBJ to 5A for 4 years until LASA moved out the building and we went a total of 42-11 In that span and beat Cedar Park, Vista ridge, Dripping Springs, Vandergrift we didn't have any trouble in 5A... Now that we are back at home in 4A We are even more dominate. You notice Cedar Park, Lake Travis, Vista Ridge, were all in LBJ way in 4A and should've never been 4A... Also, LBJ plays an open Non district schedule and we face 5A,6A teams and beat the hell out of them (Manor, Bowie etc) Also beat the 6 Top 10 teams ranked in different classes, put some respect on LBJ name and give inner city kids credit they do it the right way while battling budgeting, inner city violence and less than stellar numbers, We have 32 kids on the team while every team we play in any division has at least 50-60 kids on the other side.

Westlake is in division 2 this year so we won’t know how they would do against Dville. Southlake Carroll has a pretty tough playoff rout. They play Allen next week in the quarterfinals, will have to go through Northshore in the semifinals and Duncanville in the Championship. I personally think SLC is the favorite to win the Division 1 championship. We’ll see how Carroll does against Dville if it happens.

@@coldassnow8028 If Duncanville loses we’ll see how much they lost by to get a gauge at where we are compared to Mater Dei. If SLC doesn’t dominate Duncanville in similar fashion to Mater Dei, we can go ahead and just say Cali football is better than all of Texas. We can finally close the case and stop arguing with each other about this. Wishful thinking I suppose.

These teams look like they’re playing in slo-mo compared to Mater Dei or any other trinity league team. Mater Dei would treat Westlake the exact same as Duncanville.

I honestly see why they keep denying a game from any Southern California team. Them Cali kids are huge and fast. This Westlake team looks small and soft. Good coaching tho
