This is similar to what a family member of mine did out in Utah. They had 7 tiny homes on their property at one point. They have 5 kids and the mother is a master electrician while the father is a retired construction worker/master plumber. The kids would turn 13 and my aunt and uncle would help them design a tiny home and help them build it from scratch so by their 16th birthday they each have a tiny home that’s ready to go and then each cousin would be taught handy man skills, and never be homeless. Each of them got a small truck or suv and took their home with them when they went off for schooling or education. They said each “mobile home” as they called it only cost them 4-5k because of recycled materials, their know how and skills and they owned all their own tools and heavy equipment from their jobs.

Twenty years ago I was reading an article about alternative lifestyles. A dad, got custody of his two sons unexpectedly. They were 12 and 14 years old. He lived on a property in small used RV. Fine for 1 adult, but not with a teen and preteen. After looking at options. He bought 2 small used RVs and hooked them up to the existing electric, well and septic. He and the boys built a large deck that the trailers each opened up to. They remodeled the trailers to each boys taste. All of the males were happy. Everyone felt connected yet with private space. A great way to inexpensively solve the needs of all. This was before the tiny house movement took hold.

I’m more inclined to do the stationary RV living. I enjoyed this while living in AZ. The only draw back is insulation. Those “tin cans” really get cold at night, and super hot during the day. Thank you for sharing the inspirational story.

Same. I want to make 2x tiny homes on a tiny house property, with a deck just like this. But I would join them as a L. Have one as a two bedroom for me and my youngest, with small bathroom and kitchen and dining. The second as a space for my older two, with larger bathroom, and living entertainment area. Two bathrooms because lots of kids, and of course then we don’t have people roaming from one to another late at night and waking everyone up.That would give the older kids privacy and space to bring friends. And when my older two move out my youngest would be old enough and could take their space if he wanted. Lol. I may have given this a lot of thought.

These are cool when you are younger and agile. There will come a point where the ladder to the sleeping loft and storage is no longer practical or safe. Even the stairs would be problematic. With their second house they can stay here longer as it could eventually be the bedroom. Getting old can really suck. 😁 It sneaks up on you.

Oh I think about that every time I see a tiny home design where the adults bedroom is up on a loft and they choose a ladder to get up to the main bedroom. I've been watching these tiny home build videos for years now and I have to say that from when I started until now, I know for a fact I would have not been able to continue climbing to the loft now compared to when these videos started coming out. As you get older, no matter how active you are, father time will start catching up to you.

I recently saw a video on a tiny home which was converted from a bus. This couple had 4 kids. The parents loved the "closeness" that they would have with their children. A little closeness is fine. 6 people living directly on top of one another is not so fine. And because their home was originally a bus it would be tight quarters anyway. I love the 2 tiny buildings being beside eachother. Sometimes, you need some time off with the one(s) you live with. These people have the right idea. Really love what they did with both of the buildings.

I like that they added a curtain for the loft area. I keep wondering why more people don't add such an option. It helps keep some privacy as well as block out the light when you're trying to sleep up there.

This is perfect. I deeply want a set up that wraps around a deck like this. I would probably go a little bigger with the house because 160 sq ft is too small for me because I couldn't do a loft bedroom but this is gorgeous. It probably would be a pain in bad weather but the physical speration would be psychologically good for me because I'd feel my work space/laundry was different.

I like the remodel, it is more open. I also really like the design you have on the outside. Very classic

I like this particular design. Most people feel like one tiny house may not be enough to downsize to immediately which discourages some. This gives them a great idea that two buildings are ideal. Each space gives you more opportunities to have as normal a lifestyle as having a home without the cost and too much footprints, especially for retirees like me. I love the deck part so much. It serves as the living room. And just look at the spurge in size. I would put a roof over it to unite the whole space plus protect it from the elements which can be used even during winter. Overall this is the most unique tiny house configuration Ive seen and the most practical too. Im originally from Asia but now retired in the US. This is a keeper I might design my next vacation house there. Two tiny houses made of wood and bamboo with a sprawling roofed deck to bridge them. Divine design!!! Thanks for the tips.

I love what they done with the remodel, except the removal of two things. The stairs. I usually get up in the night, and the composting toilet. With water shortages in arid environments, they are flushing perfectly good drinking water away.

Make sure you have a quick escape route if there is a forest fire or other weather related dangers ! Nice cabins, I just don't understand why they are not connected , even in a mobile way. I can imagine days when the conditions are hard and you have to cover up just to go to the other building. I also find amusing the notion of entertaining friends when you moved to a remote isolated location.

Well, Negative Nelly, it's like this. When you have a house in the country, EVERYone wants to come see you, and its enjoyable to see family and friends finally relax away from suburbia. In subdivisions, strangers are always at your doorstep, kids scream in adjoining yards, disrespectful teens share all their drama and noise...therefore, some of us move to the country, and pick who we want as guests. Your amusement is misplaced. And if you don't understand why they have separate living areas, you've never been married.

For 1.. if there's another wildfire, there won't be time to unhook, hook, secure everything, etc. They'll just have to FIRST grab the dog, then throw whatever they can in the back of their truck and jam out of there. Been there. =( Also.. you'd be surprised (actually not surprising) how many ppl love to come and visit when you live in such a beautiful place. Upside to its 'remoteness' is that they usually call first so it gives you a chance to tidy up first. Lol. And as far as the 2 bldngs not being connected? That would involve cutting walls away, therefore losing space/storage & mobility. Oddly though some ppl actually intentionally build their new modern homes that way, where they have to walk through 'outdoors' from a bedroom to a kitchen, etc. Yeah.. to each their own I suppose. But when you live in an area like that, you're well ware of the climate and love it and are fine w everything that comes w it. Including bundling up. =)

That home is cozy looking. I admire how despite that accident they had with their home, they still persisted. Many would have given up, but they won't. And now because they persevered, they now have a home to be proud of.

This is great - tiny homes have that term "tiny" that makes me think "cramped." But these look really nice. Love the idea of having a tiny house for your tiny house, especially since these things don't have attics or basements, and you still need a place to store all your stuff!

I am really sorry for the loss financially of your first tiny house but I have found it many times better things come from hardship… Not only lessons learned but a better life. I really love your layout for your tiny home and the way you have utilized the outdoors and your deck and the extra smaller tiny house adjacent to your home for Extra work area; do you to have outdoor theater/movies and speakers for your music and just such a beautiful scenery around you when you are outdoors, you have the best of all worlds❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️ I really love that you can also bring down the Hamic‘s chairs and just chill out and swing right there inside your home! You have really been smart about the layout of your kitchen area give yourself extra space and not taking upstairs steps but rather using the ladder do you access the upper loft area. Last, I’m very proud of you for not giving up when you’re tiny house tipped on the road up to your location. Many people would’ve just given up and he speaks highly of your level of perseverance and strength.😊❣️ I WISH YOU BOTH BEST INTO YOUR FUTURE 💕♥️♥️❣️
