2 Tips for Voicing Chords Effectively

By including the melodic content in your voicing decisions you allow yourself to hear the harmony in the context intended by the composer. Coupled with taking some initiative and deciding that you can ignore the changes if you like and we end up a very powerful player who can tackle most harmonic situations with creativity and ease!

Nice video Charles. I often find that giving up the third produces less muddy voicings, and often allows to add more color notes, and the thirds of the soloist are gonna shine.

great video as always, do you have recommendations of songs to use this melody approach to find new harmonys with in? I am working on infant eyes, time remembered and now footsteps that i could now try this on

Literally everything! I make fretboard diagrams with the chord tones as orange dots and the additional melody notes as pink and study them throughout a tune.
