this is pure survival instinct . she teaching him to play, but also she may not feel 100% healed up yet, so she doesn't want him to be able to get to far yet in case of danger. not that the puppy is in danger at all, mom just wants to protect him from everything right now.

I think she's more trying to teach him how to play, because that's how puppies get stronger and learn more control by playing and fighting their litter mates. She knows exactly how much pressure to apply to not hurt him and she knows how far he can go away from her before he's gone too far away for what he's ready to do. She seems like a very good mommy!

I think shes trying to toughen him up and tire him out so he sleeps good. Shes pretty young still too right. Boy he is FAT though but he is getting ALL the milk being the only pup.

my dog had puppies over a year ago she ended up having seven pups and they were hand full now i get to see three of the seven and the twins are the two who i see every day and we kept one puppy my brother kept the twin to lakota which is deisel and koby i only get to see him every now and then but i love them one little girl named nala is a service dog in Utah while genea another little girl is with a friend of our just like her twin brother koby just different families and kerby aka bullet jr literally is with one of my sisters friends and wetherby lives in star valley with a nice old lady they are all great dogs amazing actually and i love them all with all my heart. I know I'm late but my friend's dog Abby just had 7 puppies and there are weening off of her now but before that they accidently cut her trying to get milk :( Abby runs away when they try to nurse now lol but they are almost 5 weeks old and don't really need to nurse to much anymore! Abby still loves them though she always comes in to check on them and make sure that they are doing good, and if one of them is missing she will literally search the house lol. They are Golden retriever lab puppies and there are 3 black ones all girls just like there mom Abby and 4 Golden just like there dad Toby, 3 goldens are boys and 1 is a girl. Also, why does your dog only have 1 puppy. Did something happen to the others, or was it just a VERY small litter???
