I started water only hair care in May 2020. It is called NoPoo(No Shampoo), and some Japanese minimalist try it.
And recently I started using shampoo again.
In this video, I'm talking about my NoPoo experience, its advantages and disadvantages, and why I stopped NoPoo.

As someone whose skin get irritated by shampoos I started using amla+reetha+shikakai power for hairwash and it works plus no skin trouble. I do have to brush my hair after drying to get all the power crumbs out but it's really good and cleaning. Putting it here in case it might help someone.

I did no poo for two years, I started at 14 and stopped at 16 because I had dandruff and my scalp was so itchy I couldn’t help but scratch it until it bled. It was so uncomfortable in school when I’d scratch and so much dandruff would fall onto my desk. I started using shampoo again and never had dandruff again or an itchy scalp. I still use head and shoulders once a month because I’m just terrified of feeling that itch again. It’s been 7 years since I’ve been shampooing again. The only good thing that came out of that was I can go 2 weeks and some days without washing my hair and I have straight blonde hair

I recommend Kinky Curly brand's Come Clean shampoo. This really cleans but gently. It doesn't cause any itching. You don't have to be curly to use it. Two years is really too long for health reasons. Oil will oxidize and bacteria will grow. Baking soda can be very irritating. If you don't have very oily hair, you don't have to wash very often, but once a week or 2 weeks isn't often. If you're fine with longer, it's probably okay if you use a real gentle shampoo. Head and Shoulders surprisingly makes hair look quite beautiful, but if you resolved the flaking, you could probably try a gentler shampoo now. The video fails to mention that Japanese people would be hesitant to tell someone they stink, but maybe close friends would. They also like water much hotter than Westerners so maybe it killed bacteria, but she still had oxidised oil, so eventually she did not like the results.

I have super straight hair. Shiny, thick, shampoo commercial hair. In high school, the pretty, preppy, popular girls wondered how I got my hair so nice. I was flabbergasted because I thought something was wrong with me having such shiny hair. All these pretty girls had dull, lifeless, (overly dyed and heat styled) hair but they wanted to know what I did?? "I got up, took a shower, washed my hair, and let it dry on my way to school. Every day." Yes, folks, I washed it *every single day* and it was gorgeous. Went no-poo when homeless and it was a disaster. My body never "got used to" being clean every other day, every 3-4, once a week, every 2 weeks...nope. My genetically oily self NEEDS to be clean every single day. I'm all for going a natural route but no-poo is a no-go for me. I'm glad it works for others but I'll pass.

I currently have a routine, wash my hair once a week or longer during summer and once a month or longer during winter. I have very dry skin and believe I'd be successful at a no poo regime. I've been wanting to try it but never found out how to wash it until now. Thank you again ❤.

Nobody has smelled it even if you stand next to me. You need to put your nose like a few centimeters or run your fingers through my hair to smell it.I clean it manually with a comb or brush. The oiliness is amazing because its not that oily for it to looks bad its also not dry. Its perfectly oily so it looks healthy and strong and you can style it however you like. @@ryane6886 I haven't cut my hair I am growing it out and it probably like 20cm long. I workout but I don't sweat a lot cause I lift weights in a cool basement and I don't do any cardio. Where I live it's also pretty cold so basically I don't sweat. If you get a haircut you shampoo so that your barber doesn't complain. I mean the smell isn't bad but it's also not good and your hair is oilier than shampoo washed hair. What I use is when my hair gets really dirty from some kind of activity is a green clay mask. It works well to make the hair cleaner but not strip away everything like shampoo does. As I said if someone isn't going through your hair you shouldn't worry about smell or look. It looks better and the smell can only be noticed if you put your nose close to the hair. I did nopoo for months before I told anyone and nobody has noticed. I am also doing no soap mechanical washing for my body and it also works really well

Doing no poo right now, it's been two weeks and my hair is looking good. Might update this comment in a few months but my advice for the start is : 1) If your scalp gets too greasy, rinse it with hot water. 2) Use natural essential oils like tea tree before your rinse if you are worried about smell/scalp infection. (PS: Make sure you can handle essential oils first! I never had any bad reactions to them) 3) I personally still use some no rinse conditioner for my lengths after a rinse, when my hair is soaking wet. My hair is bleached so I need it.

I love the video! I'm a minimalist as well and I'm a couple weeks into not using shampoo. It's still kind of greasy but I have always had a sensitive scalp that would hurt unless I shampood every day and if my hair got too long it hurt too. So far it hurt for a bit but then it stopped hurting. I'm hoping it gets less greasy because I've always wanted long hair but it hurts so bad. Anyways I subscribed and hope to see more videos in the future.

hey can i get an update on your situation? Im having 6 inches long hair and i'd recommend to: wash everyday at first cause your hair has not gotten used to the new routine yet so it's greasy, then lower the frequency after time. About your scalp, im not a professional but i would guess it's from past damage from massaging with your nails and using shampoo (dries your scalp), i'd recommend massaging with your finger meat not nails which also stimulate hair growth. If it still hurts then i'd also recommend you to check up with a doctor.

Not washing your hair at all will probably add to scalp issues. But a lot of people over wash their hair. Water alone does not take away dirt like a proper shampoo. Washing daily is probably too often unless you work a dirty job. I spend most of time in air conditioning indoors, washing twice a week instead of daily seems to be best for my hair type and adequate for my skin. But many times I only shower/wash my hair once a week, though I wash my hands frequently and ideally would wash my face daily, though I often skip. Might be worth talking to a dermatologist about sensitive scalp issues. I'm all for minimalism, but addressing basic health needs is a need. Your scalp should not be in pain. That's your body telling you that something is wrong.

If your hair is greasy you should DEFINITELY look into getting a boar bristle brush. It helps redistribute the oils in your hair to prevent greasy roots and dry ends. Also, don’t use hot water on your hair/scalp as she does- it will dry out your scalp and lead to oil overproduction. Finally, make sure that you regularly clean your pillowcases and hair care tools to prevent buildup of oils and dirt. I have very fine hair that used to get greasy super easily but now I can go a week or two between washes just fine

I have done no-poo before, leading to only needing to wash about every 1-2 weeks with long hair. I shaved my head a few months ago and decided to start fresh with no shampoo, only using a scalp brush. I experienced the same as you, flakes, so I stopped scrubbing as often. Now, my hair is growing out and the longest part is hitting my shoulders, still not using shampoo. I have no problems with the texture or styling of my hair, and it feels, looks and smells clean. I have lightly washed it about 4 times since shaving, with a natural soap bar but only gently and on the hairline when I have been sweaty/dirty in the garden. I am really happy with my hair now, and hope as it keeps growing out I can keep this up. I will be okay if I have to use some sort of cleanser here and there, but hoping it will only need like once a month.

Yeah, people should use 100% natural shampoo alike. Mine is shakikai shampoo consisted of more than 15+ natural leaves, nuts, fruits, peels. Etc... Made in bulk from the nature lover online, it's cheaper than a good chemical shampoo itself and has better growing, thickening, smoother.. Everything just better, so instead of going purely no-poo, you take care of your hair now with ease whilst avoiding bad chemicals from the first place. To be honest, thats the best decision I've ever made

I think it depends on your skin and hair type. I wash my hair twice a week in the winter, and 3 to 4 times a week during the summer. Of course, if I'm exercising and swimming, I will wash it more often. Depending on my week, I would use shampoo, but other times..i just use cool/cold water (if I have no hair products in my hair, which i rarely have). My hair feels thicker and less frizzy that way. By the way, I'm middle eastern woth very fair skin and curly/wavy med length hair. I don't straighten or blowdry my hair straight. Just towel dry, wrap in a tshirt , and sometimes use leave on conditioner on frizzy days.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I did no poo about 10 years ago, but my hair and skin are oily, and it never really worked for me. My hairbrush didn't stop getting that oily residue that you mentioned, and I had been no poo for at least a year. My hair did become thicker and more voluminous, but I couldn't handle the oil everywhere and eventually went back to shampooing. Maybe I will do a hard reset with no poo again so that I can successfully shampoo my hair twice a week, now I'm always trying but I'm on day 3 post-wash and my hair is oily at the roots. Sometimes I get embarrassed and I'll wash it 2 nights after the last wash, just before it gets very oily.

It's been many years now since I started my no poo journey, and I can say without a doubt that the best solution I found was the traditional Indian soapnut/shikakai solution. It cleans and makes the hair silky soft, I only wash once or twice a week. I'm very happy with this.

@pixelcake-im7mc I get a squeeze bottle of honey so it is easier lol & squeeze the honey right into the conditioner bottle. You can put in however much honey you want, but I put anywhere from 1/4 - 1/2 honey into the bottle, just depending on the type of conditioner I have at the time. You really need to shake it good. Then I use that just like I would shampoo. I will say though, that when I 1st quit using shampoo, it took months for my hair to get use to it! & I feel like at 1st, people don't use anything to clean their hair, thinking the oil will just spread on down & disappear lol. That literally can not happen! Lol. So I got a squeeze bottle, put about a 1/4 apple cider vinegar, a tiny smidgen of shampoo, & filled the rest with water. The vinegar helps get rid of grease. I squeeze that on my scalp & rubbed in, just as I would with shampoo. Then I used the conditioner, sometimes on my scalp & sometimes not, just depending what I needed that day. I did that for a bit until my hair adjusted & I kept using it, but this time I left out the shampoo. Just apple cider vinegar & water. I think by this point, I was able to use the conditioner on my whole scalp, if I remember correctly. I used this for a while & then eventually I was able to use just conditioner on my scalp. I also feel that when you first stop using shampoo, you will need to wash your hair everyday to help get rid of the oil! I feel that is where some people go wrong & they get frustrated with all the oil & they give up. & you also still need to condition your hair. All that oil on your head is not a substitute for a natural conditioner lol. But if you can stick with this, it WILL work! I use to be one of those that I would wash my hair in the morning & by night time my hair was greasy already! Now I can go days without washing & just use mainly water!!!! Even after a hot swesty day, usually water alone will work! But I still do use my conditioner/honey mix occasionally as needed & after doing dirty yard work & stuff like that. Or if I was really sweaty & stinky that day, I definitely will use it! I don't want to stink!! 🤣🤣🤣 Anyway, sorry for the long response!! But I hope this helped! ✌️💛

I have fine, wavy Caucasian hair (fine, but lots of it) with no color greying nicely. I started growing my hair out about two years ago. It is below shoulder length and layered. I went no-poo and, because I am older and sebum production is decreased, I fully wash once a month with pre-poo bonding treatments and a hair mask...the works. In between I wash with tepid water with a cold rinse once per week. I oil my scalp once a week, lightly oil the ends daily and only use light heat a couple of times per week. I only use a boar bristle brush once every couple of days. Result: BEST LUSH, LUMINOUS HAIR OF MY LIFE!!! ❤️

My experience with no poo is not a good one. My hair got this waxy film; that is gone now. It was also hard to manage; I had tangles. My hair didn't feel clean nor looked clean; I was insecure about my hair. I eventually developed scalp problems fungi, dandruff and itchy scalp my hair is also in a stagnate length. I lost alot of hair and my hair collected dust. For reference I have low prosoity hair, dry ends and oily scalp. Where I live the water isnt to harsh. I have tried from clarifying shampoos and danruff products. I am finding ways to fix my scalp again. I am considering herbal shampoos now.

Super helpful info, ty 🙂 I am doing baking soda and ACV about twice a month or so and at first my hair responded fairly well. My scalp is less flaky and oily than before but flaking is still a problem. Hair is not super silky but not very rough either. It is however still very frizzy. I will keep going at it and hopefully it will get better. Perhaps I will try only hot water or perhaps I will opt to shampoo once a week 🤷‍♀

It's best to hair care your scalp by using a leave-in hair oil (carrier oil + essential oil blend) and then wash it off with a herbal water/rinse/shampoo. It is definitely a no-poo thing but better than no poo alone because your hair now will be more silky, smoother than the no-poo method itself or even commercial - shampoo method. I use shikakai shampoo which is 100% natural, even the lathering effect itself is made by a natural nut benifical for hair and scalp treatment. You can look it up it is an ancient Indian technique long ago but the shampoo is minimumly consisted of 4 ingredients

@themeowinn4164
@themeowinn4164 7 ай бұрын
@@MissMusanta it depends, if you are from the west it will have some sorts of affordable ingredients which have similar effects as a shampoo, in Asia. Shikakai is cheap, therefore the manufacturer favors it.. => affordable products, and I'll list a few types of ingredients I know that you can look up within your range of continent. Ginger - Rosemary - lemongrass - grapefruit peels... These are popular, very affordable, the same effects so you want to look up online with the terms like "herbal shampoos" and check if they label it as 100% natural, then the ingredients and buy the one that is affordable to you. Go find it now
@themeowinn4164
@themeowinn4164 7 ай бұрын
@@MissMusanta then, leave in oil. If the purpose of you is to grow hair thicker and more in density, then you should proceed. Leave in oil is easy to make, tho you can buy the made one. 70% coconut oil, 28% castor oil and 6 drops of lavender oil for 1oz bottle (30ml). This recipe is the cheapest but most effective. I've tried many before and I love this one most... Otherwise the shampoo is enough, I use the leave in oil once a week tho cuz I have no time... And my hair is already filled with its nutrients for a long period therefore I dont need to use much as it is thick and dense enough. But overall, this is one frame composition of a picture, if you lack zinc, vitamin d, magnesium and vitamins in ur daily need. Your hair will no longer be supported by the system and eventually fall out, thin or even leading to baldness. So make sure you are not deficient in any of the nutrients. Ur hair is made of vitamins and trace minerals, if your body has none, nothing can back up ur hair

Hello/konnichiwa from the U.S. I’ve experienced exactly the same thing even though obviously you are a young Japanese woman and I’m an older white man. 😊 Nowadays I only use shampoo once every two to three months, and the results are fantastic. Originally I had started using shampoo only once a week and it progressed from there. The only benefit from using the stuff is that it does smell nice, because not using it allows your hair’s natural oils to come back to a natural level , i.e. at actually a very low level. Of course this is what the billion dollar/yen,etc. shampoo industry does not want to hear.

Washing with hot water makes no sense. I comb my hair through warm water when starting my bath and after I'm finished with the bath part, I comb my hair with cold water. If I don't do the cold water part, the hair gets really oily and if I don't do the warm water part, the hair gets dirty. I moisturize my hair with a natural oil every week or couple of weeks (while damp and spreading a small bit of oil through my hands first) and shazam. Great smelling hair and no use for shampoo for more than 2 years (I have oily skin and hair. My hair is much more smooth and silky with this method)
