Nice vids! Just had the same issue. No codes, during cold and warm start up revving up to approx 2000 rpm. Rough idle. Felt loss of power and also gas pedal les responsive. Also sometimes noticed hard shifting trough gears (AT). Cleaned and replaced vanos solenoids and cleaned vanos filters. Idling was better, but the rev still showing up. The high rev is because of loss of oil pressure in vanos system. I checked my camshaft positition sensor and it was bad. Replaced intake and exhaust camshaft position sensors. These will also contribute to the timing of your vanos system, they are responsible for the correct position of the camshaft. After replacement one big rev (repositioning camshaft due to good reading). Problem solved, still a little bit of rough idle and wobbles, but not that often. Only during long idling and cold start. Rums like a charm, shifting properly, gas pedal responsive is nice and also the power is back. Just noticed a whining noise in the back of the car... probabaly dofferntial or wheel bearing. BMW never fails to perform maintenance hahaha Good luck with your build and keep up those vids! Curious of the oil indeed will change. Also curious if the thicker oil increases metal teardown faster.

It's easier to get the VANOS filters from the wheel well by pushing the arch liner out of the way. One of my VANOS solenoids clicked fine with a battery but still gave fault codes until I replaced it. When you reconnect the coils be certain they're plugged in right. You can shut the cap down with the plug 1mm out and it causes a missfire.

Keep up the content man in many ways. Word advice to you sincerely and seriously, I've been in your position to believe in yourself to continue the journey. Watched some of your videos. Do not give up on yourself but most importantly have consideration those around you. I say this because I've reach my limit to lose and let go my time and effort on my experiences in cars. I can only say this, acknowledge the BMW as a hobby weekend car. This is the time you ask yourself, do you really want it to be like this when you can use your time and money for those importantly around you. Its a joyful feeling to know everything goes well as plan but where there's success, failure occurs along the way. Stay positive and share it who you care and love. Its time to check and realize its okay to take a break or let go. This is for those who knows the struggle is real.

Suggestion: A Mazda is a better car, has less problems, is much easier to work, and handles just as well as a BMW. No one should have to go through what you are going through. I rebuilt my Mazda 3 and did not have a single issue afterwards for 5 years until I sold it. Now I am rebuilding the engine on my N52 and learning about all the potential issues and the difficulty in accessing something if it fails. I realize my mistake and will be selling the BMW asap and getting a Mazda MX-5. Life is too short to deal with BMW's over-engineered bs.

On the top of low motor and around the cylinders there is a dark gray layer, it gone a little when i clean this part. Do you know what it is and what it is used for? thank you !

Rough idle: inpa fault code reading will expose reason, ie. misfire due bad electical connection to coil, if so, coil connector reinstall may help to that.

Yeah, haven't gotten that code before. I haven't had misfires in a long time. Just the rough idle and no codes for it.

Mine. I rebuild Cylinder head with new valves. and after started there is noise, like lifter adjuster noise. didn't go away after couple of weeks. and also Exhaust cam and Ledger scored a bit. I did not replace Ex cam or the ledger. and the HLAs are solid. cannot compress by hand. is that normal or collapsed? Is your car engine noisy like tappets? Thanks reply to me if you can..

My engine sounds great now. No noisey tappets anymore. Maybe a tappet has fallen off when you put the camshafts in. That happened to be and I had to redo it a second time

isnt 5w50 engine oil viscosity too thick for n52 engine?
@buildanddrive
@buildanddrive Жыл бұрын
Possibly. I didn't find any issues with this brand of 5w50. Some are thicker, some are not. I couldn't find what the correct flow rate the n52 requires. But I cross checked the 5w40 and it's not that much more. 5w50 is overkill for this engine, you don't need it unless you are racing. And then I would use a good 10w40 or 10w50

Hey man great video. I got an 2009 n52b25 (136k km), uses approx 1L per 6000km of 5w30. If I switch to 5w40 it's about 1L per 7000-7500km. Valve cover needs changing, OFHG done, not sure the valve stem seals or rings. One thing is more sure, these cars CONSUME OIL. This 2.5 in a 325i coupe lacks torque, the car constantly has to downshift in automatic guise. They are efficient and smooth, and adequately powerful. BUT, the Lexus 2GRFSE is superior to the N52B30 and the B25. That engine combines direct and indirect injection, produces higher Torque/Litre and is generally more reliable. BMW dropped the ball on the B25, the B30 is excellent though.

Sorry to rain on your parade but to my taste 170 psig is not close to original numbers. You have significant difference between cylinder pressures. Healthy N52b25 should be pumping 190 - 200 psig with +/- 10 psig. Mine B30 cold is 190 psig on all cylinders +/- 5 psig. And the engine has 300k km milage, no rebuild. So putting heavier oil and blaming flawed pistons is not the cure. As was said, you might have destroyed piston-cylinder gap with heavy honing. Did you measure the piston-cylinder gap before assembly in the first place? Or ot might be the valves not sealing. You'd be better off with leakdown tester. It will tell much more than just the simple compression test.
@buildanddrive
@buildanddrive 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. It's good to share this info. My old engine was 160psi + or - 10 psi. I know it was not in the best shape. Bentley manual I think states over 150psi is considered fine. As you can see in the video, the pressure jumps around from 175 to almost 200 then back down to 175 on cylinder 1. I think I will retry cylinder 1 sometime because its wierd that it's 10psi lower than the rest. Car runs pretty strong at the moment so I am not too worried. I don't have a leak down tester but maybe I can find one. I'm more worried about the oil and vacuum leak atm

Whow! This crazy thing just wiped out several comments and questions. Don't have time to rewrite now. Mainly just saying thank you, it's because of you and others that I can keep my little 325i maintained and I fully intend to keep it . Seems most people here have no idea as to the performance of these automobiles. Well at least not until you pull up beside them cruising about 85-90 mph ,and these cars love that speed range, 28-30+ mpg, temp gauge sets in around 190°, motor holding a steady 2500rpm"s and for some reason even the ride is smoother.. Thank you!

Yes. New piston design was around 800$ with rings at the time. My engine was 450$ 😂. I thought the engine would get at least 1L/3000kms which I am happy with. But it gets half that.
