My advice is go to doctors and get referred to an Audiologist at the Audiology dept at hospital. They are medically trained. The staff at a hearing aid shop may not be medically trained.

I would definitely agree that going to an audiologist is a very good idea when it comes to hearing tests and overall hearing health. However, I have found that purchasing hearing aids through an audiologist is one of the more expensive options. They will most likely tell you that the price reflects the support and service for a certain number of years, but places like ZipHearing will provide you with a hearing specialist close to your location that will provide the same level of supports and services. My advice is 1)make sure they fit you properly and make sure the audiologist fits you properly with them 2) focus on sound quality and not the appearance

If I trial a particular hearing aid, and then test a different brand and find the first hearing is better than the second trial, can I go back to the original model tested without consequence?
