What a dream come true! I was inspired to start my KZfaq channel after watching Bentley House Minis videos. I am so over the moon about this collaboration and the two signed chairs Ara made for me.
For this collaboration, Ara made things for my project: the Gryffindor Common Room in 1:12 scale. I made minis for Ara's 1:24 scale Fairfield dollhouse. Watch me make 20 half scale dollhouse miniatures using simple methods and everyday materials. These items would work well in 1:16 or 1:24 as well to fit your Lundby, Scandinavian Families, & R Bliss dollhouses. You could make any of these minis in 1:16 or 1:12 scale instead.

1/2 scale retro table dimensions:
top: 1.25 in x .75 in
smaller top: .75 in x .5 in
The legs are .5 in long. The rails that hold the smaller top are 3/8 in long.
Double the dimensions to make a 1:12 scale version.

The crocheted afghan blanket in the thumbnail was made by TiffSniffer on Etsy. She made it specifically for the Fairfield in 1970s colors. She was fantastic to work with and very responsive. The cost of the blanket including shipping from Canada was only $15! Definitely check her out for any crochet mini needs.

The problem with the floor lamp is that the beads are too big compared to the lampshade. You can create a larger shade, but that might be too big for your room, or if you like the shade, you might want to make a new base using smaller beads or something else.

All the lamps need is cords, the floor lamp looks great and very original. Growing up in the 60's & 70's I remember things like this in the house. You have a great day

Lovely stuff! I think what is troubling you about the floor lamp is that the base is thick in proportion to the shade. You could either make a wider shade, and/or separate the shade from the base with a thinner piece between the base and where the bulb would be inside the shade. (Hope that makes sense!)

@@queencityminis Having been a teen in the 1970’s, I think what’s wrong with it is indeed the proportions. The beads were perfect for the smaller lamp on the side table, but a bit thick for the floor lamp. I agree with this who say to make the shade bigger. The shade could also be much wider at the bottom. My sense of the floor lamp is that it might look more realistic with a wooden base, rather than the bead one. Something like a turned wood spindle/dowel would look great, especially with the fancy shade you made. I would make the very bottom base a bit larger as well, to help with the stability both here as the model, and also to look more realistic. My dad has one in his apartment that we’ve had ever since I can remember (I was born in 1962), and it is wooden with an off-white pleated shade. It also has an unusual but seriously useful round table top about half way up the center pole. The table is about the size of your existing lampshade, and should either meet or exceed the size of your base disk. It’s just big enough to create a place for setting your drink and a book. :) The beads would be about the right size and shape to do one of those multi-armed, multi-shade lamps as well (or instead). Three individual shades on three wire stalks that came together to form the center pole would be good. Those were popular in the 60’s, but also the 70’s. Some had as many as 5 lamps, but 3 was more common. Loved your bean bag chairs! I liked the shiny “pleather” look best. :)

The lamp looks "off" because the shade hits at the widest part of the bead. Your brain assumes the bulb would be at the top where it narrows, which puts the shade too low. A small spacer bead above the orange beads to move the bottom of the shade to a narrow part would fix it. Love all of these, especially the tables. 1/2 scale is my favourite. Great inspiration!

1970s floor lamps often had thinner stem. I would use 3 beads and thinner spacers between them putting spacer next to lampshade. I don't think it needed pull switch. It looked good with that pink button even before you painted it :) Lampshade you made is simply brilliant ♥ I think you felt there's something wrong because lamp stem is too think for lampshade and if you made lampshade bigger it would probably be off scale at this point. I absolutely loved table lamp that you made ♥ Mysterious plastic circle from sidewalk is either a plastic grommet or plumbing part from water tap. I found similar ones in water taps that I took apart some years ago. Might be part of a toy too.

I am one of the ones that has not heard of Bentley house mini's however I will check that out. I am addicted to making miniature doll houses through kits I've never made one from my own. I did make a large hobby house that is for stories from a kit that was wooden and it is absolutely beautiful it is all Victorian

I walk around looking at the ground trying to find trash to scavenge from the sidewalk and street. I have an entire collection of items I've rescued from the gutters. I often wear leggings, so I don't even have pockets. So I end up carrying these pieces of trash around in my hand until I get home.

I came across your Chanel about 6 months ago and loved the details you put into your work,it’s funny really this has been the 5th time I have found a new KZfaqr in miniatures that I have started following just before they and Ara do a collaborative video each🤔🤔🤔 It’s not surprising as how many I have watched who watch either of Bentley House and/or Julie Warren’s they are both very talented women when it comes to miniature work and are both great at walking through the steps of how they make their items step by step. What a great video. I loved everything. My tip for making fringe is to find the color you want in fine woven fabric. Cut one end straight across the weave. Then unravel to the width of fringe you want. Put glue across the top and cut when dry. It ends up being a long piece and curves perfectly around circles or on straight edges for rugs, towels, etc.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE ALL THINGS '70's!!!!! 🎉 The side tables sent me back..... wwwaaaaaaaaaayy back! LOL 😂 the bean bag chair, OMG!!! The lava lamp is over the top and the BEST one DIY I've ever seen! Everything is just perfectly vintage and fits into the Fairfield like it's been there forever! The tall floor lamp you feel is "off" just needs some easy adjustment. If you're committed to the stand the shade will need to be made a bit longer and a bit wider. If your committed to the shade the stand circumference will need to be reduced quite a bit, almost a pole only or beads that are slim with a hole big enough to fit on the pole. The lampshade could really be used as a bedside table lamp or desk lamp. 😊

And now the vintage craze is in full swing, and I personally am loving it! If I had unlimited resources, I would definitely have a time capsule home.

I love your videos, such ingenuity! I have only just recently started a doll house, and on today's video I noticed that you do not add electric cords to the lamps. I was in high school in the 70's, and the lava lamp cord would have been visible on the table it would be on, and I just wondered if the cords were omitted for a reason. Your color schemes are spot on for the 70's! Love your work!

I loved this so much!!❤️🥰 The bean bag chairs are a perfect detail for the 70s Fairfield..along with everything you created. Ara also inspired me and gave me the courage to start my channel. I am in awe of your miniature makings. Watching you, I feel nothing is impossile. I have so much left over from all different crafts that I do including jewellery, tapestry, soap making and all these supplies will aid me in my life's dream of creating a dollhouse and miniatures. You can do it! When I edit the video, it looks like I work on one miniature from start to finish and all the ideas come all at once. In reality, I work on several items at the same time and keep going back to each item adding more details as I think about it. One step at a time. As Bentley House Minis says, good miniatures take time.

Thank you so much! When I edit the video, I put all the clips from one miniature together in a sequence. But when I'm actually making minis, I tend to work on several at once. Sometimes I go back days later and add more details. I don't always come up with all the ideas all at once.

Fantastic work, as ever, and so lovely to see a collaboration - those Gryffindor chairs! I think the floor lamp problem is that the upright is too wide? It's so funny hearing you talk about the 70s. That's my teenage years and although l know it's decades ago now it still doesn't seem that long ago to me - l guess that's what happens as you get old!

You should definitely give it a try! When I make minis, I tend to make a few things at the same time and keep adding details to each of the things I'm making. I added the videos and it looks like I did all of the steps in a row, but sometimes I went back days later and added another detail I thought of. I also display the best side of the miniature. And I hide ugly ones in the back 😆

You really think outside the box again and again! I’ve never commented on a video before, but I just had to applaud your work! This entire video is packed with useful advice! It’s nearly impossible to name just a few things I liked most. I love how you transform objects into the proper scale by making simple adjustments. Such as the sunburst style mirror. (I struggle with these seemingly obvious scale hacks - 1:24 scale has been a challenge. More difficult than 1:12.) The faux macrame wall hanging and tiny baskets are my favorite items! I can’t wait to make some fringe! Your wood tables look better than store bought doll furniture but seem relatively simple to make. The lava lamp is the coolest! Is there anything you can’t make? I’m so inspired by your use of household items! (And thrilled to know that some of the best looking projects do NOT have to involve MATH or a lot of tedious measurements!) Rolling the plant leaves in tape - brilliant! Thank you for making this awesome half scale tutorial and sharing your experiences! I appreciate the mention of your trials that ended badly so I can avoid the same mistakes. So much information that I will watch it over and over!

Thank you so much! For me, if a DIY becomes too tedious or involves lots of math, it isn't much fun anymore. I like to cut corners to keep it fun and keep the project moving. I am so happy with how the baskets turned out. They took no time at all to make since you just cut out a circle, then a skinny piece and glue them together. Easy peasy The fringe was very satisfying. I didn't know if it would turn out, but it worked great. The tables surprised me. I haven't made much furniture by hand (they were my first tables) bc I don't like tedious cutting and measuring. They were actually easy and quick to make. They're my favorites. Thank you for watching 😊

I’ve made Snake plants with green twist ties, painting the edges with yellow. The wire in the twist tie really helped to hold the shape.

Wow...a plethora of decorations for Ara's Fairfield! They are all sooo 70's (I should know...that is when I graduated from high school!) The only thing missing was the acrylic grapes...or maybe that was 60's...🤔 Anyway, you did a terrific job on all of them. As for the floor lamp, the only thing that struck me was maybe the shade was a bit too narrow? I haven't read through all the other comments to see what else people may have said, but that's all I could see. Loved the pull chain!

Thank you! In the '80s, rubber grapes were a thing. I popped a couple in my mouth while I was at a friend's house. I immediately realized they were rubber. Worse than that, they were covered in dust! Yes, people have pointed out the shade is too small. The bottom of the shade also hits the bead at the widest point, which makes it look even more out of scale.
