Learn how to make an abandoned miniature scene in a really small space. This book box is only 2.25 inches deep.
In this video, I modify existing miniatures and scratch build my own things. I make my own molds and cast mini bottles with hot glue and resin. Using mat board and q-tips, I make a fluorescent light fixture. I scratch build a sink and show lots of great again techniques and tips. I really love how this turned out.
I have lots of projects planned ranging from abandoned miniatures, furniture makeovers, accessories, kits and Dollhouse Miniatures in multiple scales. I also have a large Harry Potter build planned for 1" scale.
Please Like, Comment & Subscribe to support my efforts and so you don't miss out on future videos.
Thank you,
Shyra

At 14:25 is the moment you won my heart. I wish my husband understood me the way you do! A typical conversation in our house sounds like “ what do you mean it’s NOT trash? Its an old shoebox with a used icee lid, an empty pringles can, and a half bottle of nail polish, the cardboard roll from the toilet paper, and a stick from a sucker? Me: “ No! That’s a shadow box, the top of a jellyfish, and a tower. That nail polish still has a full life, I’m using to paint the tops of keys, and you never throw away toilet paper rolls, the holidays are coming up. “ Him: “And the sucker stick?” Me: “ I ate the sucker. That actually is trash. “ Him: “ good! At least something will go in thrash!” Me: “ well, now that I think about it,…. “

Added some books and scrolls. A mortar and pestil for mixing potions. Bottles made from various beads. Some herbs and mushroomd. Some potion charts to decorate the inside of the book cover. Love this. So realistic. At about 70 , I remember when old labs and Doctors offices looked that basic . In the 1950's alot of hospitals used a pale green paint color on the walls as it was suppose to be calming and restful and less stressful for patients and staff. Maybe you could find a use for the pale hospital green shade in future dioramas. Thanks for sharing.

I recently retired from 40+ happy years working in a medical lab. I have also enjoyed visting many museums with displays of vintage medical equipment. You have created a charming mini-scenario and, to me, the details of your reproductions are dead-on. Though it feels like an "old home" to me, I think most will find it to be creepily fascinating. I am new to the world of miniatures and have just begun learning about how they are created. One of my retiement plans is to remodel an old dollhouse into a woodland home. If you have time to answer a few questions, I would appreciate your replies. How do you stretch your imagination to design your realistic scenarios? Where you look for inspiration in developing your visions into a tangible masterpieces? What are four or five basic tools that you would recommend for someone getting started with miniatures (assuming that supplies such as paint, brushes, tweezers, cardboard, glues are already on hand.)
@queencityminis
@queencityminis 6 ай бұрын
That's great! I love the idea of making a dollhouse into a woodland home. For inspiration, I Google images to get ideas. 4 or 5 things I'd recommend: miter shears, a craft knife, wood glue in a precision tip bottle (for adding dimension and gluing), 123 machining blocks or something else that's small & heavy, and small sharp scissors. I really don't use many special tools.

You are an artistic genius. This is amazing. My Mother enjoyed making miniature scenes using real miniatures as well as items she made herself out of ordinary objects. She made Christmas more magical for us by using our dollhouse to create a scene with snow, and with Santa and his sleigh and reindeer flying through the air onto the dollhouse roof. She would have loved this video.

I love how this turned out and you showed some really great techniques! My questions is, what is the nature of this abandoned lab? Was it a medical research lab? Chemical? I think a poster on the wall would look nice. Maybe the periodic table or anatomical diagram of some type? Possibly a pair of old broken eye glasses, coffee cup or old lab coat hanging on a hook. Something to suggest the actual scientist that worked there? I know you weren’t asking for suggestions but I like to read the comments on things I like for ideas and other peoples perspectives on stuff so thought I’d add my thoughts. Thank you so much for sharing your work. This is the first video of yours I have seen and I’ll be definitely checking out your other stuff. I also love that you talk and explain things while you work. Makes it good to have playing while I’m crafting to listen to.

If you're looking for a great accompanying story to a build, you need to check out this KZfaqr I discovered a couple weeks ago. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gM53h5xk29XafX0.html As for my project, I do wish I had a good accompanying story. I like the idea of adding something more personal to suggest the scientist who worked there. It's funny you should mention a coffee cup since I just made mugs from paper in my latest video. I should add one of them to scene. Thank you!

Another very impressive build. Your attention to detail is very evident. The use of cotton swabs wrapped in tape as light bulbs is genius. Many abandoned buildings have lots of graffiti -- perhaps you didn't want that to detract from your diorama, which is understandable, or the era modeled preceded spray paints. That's a topic of debate amongst model railroaders (whether to include, especially on freight cars) so it's something I notice. You simulated dust bunnies -- perhaps that technique could work for cobwebs? Things you might consider adding: an electrical outlet and switch somewhere on the wall, a cracked mirror, or a warning sign (i.e., biohazard, in case of emergency, etc.) since it's a lab. Well done.
@queencityminis
@queencityminis Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I'm not familiar with the model railroad world, but I can definitely understand that being a debate. I released a new video on this Diorama yesterday and included cobwebs, a light switch, and lots of other new additions. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jb6YqKWYkpjel2w.html

Just found your channel, your video is very well presented & enjoyable. 2 tips for you ; Tip 1- To make metallic paints play nicer - professional gilders always use a base colour beneath metallic colour (e.g. red/yellow ochre under golds, charcoal/grey under silver, even a warm or cool brown under either). This is because they're extremely translucent & a base coat adds fullness to your metallic colour. With some pieces it can also help convey the mood you intended. Tip 2- About your clear resin bottle problem; I learned from some fab Japanese & Korean minis channels that it's much easier to get UV resin to cure when shallow, so they frequently cast 2 separate half bottles then glue them together using the same resin & cure as normal. Any excess can be trimmed with a craft knife until you get used to using just the right sized blob to join them. So looking forward to more fabulous content from you, have subscribed & clicked on bell :)
@queencityminis
@queencityminis Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I usually use a base color, especially since I have such cheap metallic paints, but I've never tried red or brown. I like the idea of branching out and seeing how it changes the mood.
