Yeah, it's also one of his moves for the Klassic Movie variant in the mobile game... but upon closer inspection his moves are almost exactly the same as Captain America so the similarity with the movie is most likely incidental.

In the Invasions Mode in the first level at Cage Mansion, the encounter with Reptile is called “Look to La Luna” which is a reference to how to originally find the secret fight against Reptile in the og MK

In Invasions you can unlock Johnny as the voice of the announcer. When you select characters then, he has different quotes for each character and kameo, some of them are references. For example: when you pick Motaro as your Kameo, Johnny sometimes says "My neighbor Motaro“, which is obviously a reference to My Neighbor Totoro

If you have the Johnny Cage announcer equipped and select Cyrax, he will say Mustard and if you select Sektor he then he will say Ketchup. These were the names of Cyrax and Sektor during game development before they got their final names.

One of Kung Lao's banters against Nitara has him saying "What did you do to Jen's body?". This is a reference to the movie "Jennifer's Body", where Megan Fox who voiced Nitara portrayed the eponymous character. Also, in Chapter 9, Scorpion says "We don't share blood, but we are brothers." to Smoke. This is similar to the line Sub-Zero quotes when fighting Noob Saibot in MK11 Chapter 4 "We share blood, but we are not brothers.".

Damashi is also mentioned as Shang Tsung's guiding spirit that turns out to be a ruse, just like in Mortal Kombat Deception where Shujinko was guided by Damashi who turned out to be Onaga.

1. If JCVD goes up against Kitana, there's a chance he'll reference the 1988 movie Van Damme starred in called Bloodsport which inspired the creation of Mortal Kombat. 2. If you choose Sub-zero in the final chapter there's a chance you can fight John Kahnner, A reference to the Terminator franchise

there's one nice detail you miss ... if you take Johnny cage's sun glasses off in clothes section before a fight , you can not throw your sun glasses in battle or do the sun glasses brutality ... so far its the only character were putting or taking the sun glasses off can give or take away a move from fighting, I found the detail to be pretty cool ..I did not expect that lol

The Wonder Woman reference is an homage to Ashrah's voice actress Susan Eisenberg, who also voices Wonder Woman in the Injustice games, as well as animated movies and series.

Johnny also says "These boots ain't made for walking" which is almost definitely a reference to the song "These boots are made for walkin'". Also the bat women from the movie set are called the Kalima like what Mola Ram says in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

I definitely recommend getting Johnny Cage's ladder ending. It's full of Easter Eggs (All ladder endings have a lot of Easter Eggs) There's also a lot of Easter Eggs to be found in the final chapter of the Story mode, in the new battle of Armageddon. So many merged fighters, puns, costumes, references, etc. (Hell the entire new generation from MKX even shows up in a cutscene)

In chapter 13 of the story mode, Shang Tsung says "so much for fire and ice" after defeating Scorpion. This is a reference to the canceled Mortal Kombat game "Fire and Ice".

There's quite a few more references with Johnny's interactions. But the fun part is seeing when you compare them to Jean-claude's. He has his own lines. Mostly references for more of his own movies.

In one of the Invasion chest clues, you have to perform a fatality with Kameo Kung Lao on Nitara (cuts them in half vertically)to unlock. Maybe a reference to Kung Lao killing Nitara in a similar way in the MK 2021 movie?

Another reference is that Katara Vala, from Johnny's movie, looks pretty much exactly like Havik did in the klassic games. Another Van Damme skin intro also references Bloodsport by name. Hell, the stuff Johnny spouts could be a video on its own; practically every second line from him is a reference to a movie or other media. On another note - I think the "Reindeer games" line from him was just referencing the same movie Avengers was referencing. That movie being...Reindeer Games.

Given Johnny Cage remembers the old timeline he is constantly making quotes for movies that don't necessarily exist in the new timeline. This is a special interesting note because the frequent cameos of movie characters allows him to reference them directly as he even acts out the roles he remembers so fondly in the new universe.

Oh yeah... that's a Captain America reference. Killing/attacking with a shield doesn't necessarily mean Captain America, but the ricochet does. His ability to throw his shield and have it bounce back to him perfectly is one of Cap's most notable skills.

I found another Easter egg. If you do a Liu Kang mirror match, one of the dialogues has 1 ask what happened to the other timelines Kitana and the other responds “I was tricked into killing her by an evil clown” witch is not only a reference to the Joker being in mortal Kombat 11 but also a reference to NetherRealms other famous fighting game franchise Injustice

There's a very far out reference in this game to the animated MK series Defenders of The Realms, if you get Scorpion to fight Baraka, there's a chance that they will have this dialogue Scorpion: "Your martial art style is unique!" Baraka: "It is the way of Asgaarth!" For those that don't know Asgaarth is the name given to a character that only appeared in Defenders of The Realms, a humanoid eagle warrior from Edenia who in the cartoon was tasked with the protection of Kitana.

In mk1 invasion, the level "look to la luna" is a reference to a clue given by reptile in mk 1992, also in invasions, there is an achievement called adventure time. Also in golden eye console, there is a mission where you have to use a computer to open a door. Shooting the computer enough will make it blow up. The game will send a scientist down and shooting him drops a key card. more deatials: there is a johnny cage announcer voice with a ton of refrences, I found 2 so far, "two face", when selecting reptile, and "just the facts ma'am" when selecting li mei. My personal favorite in the entire game though, is that the code johnny cage gives you for his mansion is the blood code from mk 1992.

In Johnny Cage’s mansion in Invasions mode, where you first come across Bob’s Forge, you can see a statue of Reptile from the 1995 Mortal Kombat Movie being 3D printed on the left side. Also you can see a blue 3D printed version of Drahmin’s mask at the top. Also when you get to the Movie Theater portion of his mansion, the front of the movie theater will show that the movies playing are The Final Wish 2 and Hidden Crimes. This is actually the same movie theater from the Gotham City stage in Injustice 2.

I know of two hidden details/references When Johnny clashes and they break his sunglasses, he throws them away and pulls another pair out of his pocket. I believe this is a reference to Rude from Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children The other hidden detail is in the stage with the fireworks. If you input a specific 57 button combo, a marriage proposal from one of the devs is spelt out by them. His fiancee was streaming the game when he showed her, and it's available on the KZfaq channel Geek Remix.

The arcade in Johnnie's house is the coolest one. I was born in 83 and my Dad probably had the coolest job of most dads. He actually built, sold and distributed arcade cabinets in Orlando. He'd surprise us a couple times a month and let us skip school to go to the "Shop" to test some of the new games. Needless to say, MK 1-3, Primal Rage, The Simpsons, Moonwalker, Killer Instinct, Smash TV, Gauntlet Legends, Crazy Taxi, NBA Jam, several TMNT Games, Time Crisis. It's insane to think we were some of the first kids to play these absolute legendary titles, all for free.... taking it all for granted. We were living like kings, but never aware.

Their is four back to the future refrences, their is too when choosing Johnny Cage and Geras, In the story mode when Johnny cage is about to get kicked by Subzero when he untied that guy in Johnny Cages home he said “ Hey you, get your damn hands off of him”, The last one I found is one of his attacks is called Back to the Footure. When you play as raiden on any stage with small pebbles or loose items on the ground, using his lighting cage ability (not what its actually called i just can't remember) it'll attract those things towards him as thats what the move is supposed to do, it's a small detail but i was shocked when i saw it. No pun intended

So when Johnny throws the shield, I think it's a reference to the first Mortal Kombat movie when he actually kills Scorpion with the shield. Now think about it, he didn't throw it in the movie.

The "Wonder, woman" line is more a reference to the fact that Ashra's VA also plays Wonder Woman in the Injustice series

Also in the “Indian Jones” opening, the shield has two snake heads pointing at each other, this could just be a design decision, or could be a reference to the symbol of Thulsa Doom’s cult in Conan The Barbarian (1982)?

Not sure if this was obvious or not but at 6:01 when he mentions Wonder Woman, Ashrah is voiced by Susan Eisenberg who does the voice for Wonder Woman in the Justice League shows and movies :)

If you select Johnny Cage vs Li Mei Johnny has a chance to say "What's on first, Who's on second" (I can't remember what he said exactly but thats basically it) a reference to the What's on first, Who's on second comedy act (I can't remember the two people who did that)

Johnny Cage's shield throw is both a reference to captain america from the way the shield bounces but they way he killed Kavala is a similar way way Johnny Cage killed Scorpion in the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie in both the game and the movie the shield has spikes.

Important context for the Wonder Woman reference: Ashrah, the white-clad lass Johnny says it to is voiced by Susan Eisenberg. A prestigious voice actress who amongst her many roles involves Wonder Woman in both the 1990's animated series and Netherrealm's own injustice series

I feel the shield throwing is a nod to Cap America, but that’s because the shield returns and its thrown in a cool way. That combo makes it feel like Cap America

Definitely. Anyone can throw a shield, but Cap is the one who makes it ricochet back to him like that.
