Great video and great car , however, proof that your can't polish a turd but you can roll it in glitter..... You are the glitter king of 20 year old Porsches.

I'm not sure if I should thank you for that, or report the comment 😂 Bit more that could have been done, like the headlights (actually doing at a later date) and further polishing of the rear screen plastic, but it was quite brittle. The footage I had of me giving a go over with Cleanser Polish was pants so I didn't include it.

That's good to know, there's a fine line to be trodden on the pace of the videos and doing justice to the effort and work put in to. Filming also really slows the job down in some spaces as you need to stop your flow, so it's finding a balance there. I can see why some people plonk a GoPro on their head and just do the narration in voiceover that's for sure.

Those convertible roofs take some looking after. I cleaned one before with auto finesse rag top cleaner with a firmish brush but it wouldn’t get a lot of the stains out.

Yeah it's a problem! Citrus based cleaners do help apparently, and with this one I found it was the dye at the end that made a huge difference, there was definitely some bird lime there that I just couldn't shift. It was probably bleaching.

Thanks, I really appreciate you taking the time to come and comment, it's lovely for me! I didn't touch the rear screen in the end, I gave it a good clean, which helped, but it was REALLY brittle, I didn't want to do anything to it that could have led to an issue.

Not sure how I missed this one Adrian, but sort of glad I did because after a hectic weekend, chilling on the sofa with this little beauty was what the Dr ordered. Quick question, are you using ONR to help you to remove the polish? If so, is this something you had to do, just for this car or is it a go to? Really interesting. All the best.
@SuperchargedLlama
@SuperchargedLlama Жыл бұрын
Good spot - it was Feynlab Rinseless here actually, it's fantastic as removing polishing residue, so you can do it with less agitation and therefore a far lower chance of inflicting marring. It removes the polish residue to effectively that you can instantly see if there's any hazing. Matt Rowe from Obsidian detailing put me on to that and I was blown away. ONR does work btw, the Feynlab is just a bit more effective.

Your best video yet , great commentary throughout. You should try Megs 205 on a rotary with a soft finishing pad , that really is combo made in heaven . I think you'll be very happy with Solution Finish I've recently used it on some badly faded trim with some outstanding results .
@SuperchargedLlama
@SuperchargedLlama 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching it Mark, I really appreciate the continued support! I've not used my rotary for so long you know, I've got a cheap silverline and always felt like it took me for a walk, so I shifted to DA and have been so much more confident with that. The rotary only comes out to play on tight bumpers with the 3inch pad usually, but at the same time I know I should try it more. Same for solution finish, I only usually buy the small bottle though as I don't use it frequently enough and that was out of stock everywhere for the last order I made.
@markmoore6264

@@SuperchargedLlama I've got a couple of rotaries a full size Dewalt which can be a handful and a Shinemate mini rotary which is a dream to use compared to the Dewalt , so much lighter and more manageable. I do like my cordless Dewalt Da which i treated myself to last year though . Shame your so far away you could have tried the Shinemate and the Da .
@SuperchargedLlama
@SuperchargedLlama 2 жыл бұрын
@@markmoore6264 funny you mention Shinemate as I ameyeing up their mini da as well as their 15mm throw bigger one. I need to wait until I get that due to funds (I've had to replace my mv925 stubby gun, and I think I also need to sort the hose too, I've got some terrible pulsing), I'd get th mini one first though as the DAS6Pro is absolutely fine with the 5" pads, just vibey as hell with the 3" ones as it's not counter balanced for them.
@markmoore6264
@markmoore6264 2 жыл бұрын
@@SuperchargedLlama The Shinemate rotary is a great little machine , quiet and smooth and nowhere near as cumbersome as the full-size machine . I've also got a 3" Da off Amazon which was too much of a bargain to resist but I haven't given it a go yet , probably when the weather cools down a bit as I've got both cars to polish and they are both black.
@brucewayne2773
@brucewayne2773 Жыл бұрын
That DA polisher you are using is great for cutting, for polishing I use the rotary it has been a game changer for detail guys. I have a Rupes and it makes the polishing work for me so much easier now. I always prefer detailing inside the garage, not ideal to be outside because of dust and wind of course.
@SuperchargedLlama
@SuperchargedLlama Жыл бұрын
That's interesting because I find that cutting/compounding is quicker with the rotary. I can't finish down very well with it so I use the DA for that (if I'm changing tools). You're not wrong about it being better in a garage or studio, but being mobile means the Gazebo has to come out. I put the sides on when it's windy or particularly dusty - the weather when I was doing this was breathless (not that this removes the risks from airborne particulates of course, it was just a bit less risky than it can be. It was completely sealed up over night for example).
@brucewayne2773
@brucewayne2773 Жыл бұрын
@@SuperchargedLlama Perhaps it's the pad and compound you are using to cut and polish. The DA heats up pretty quickly, the rotary does not at all unless you are putting it in one spot forever or too much pressure.
@SuperchargedLlama
@SuperchargedLlama Жыл бұрын
@@brucewayne2773 yeah I appreciate the theory, I've just never got the technique with the rotary to not leave buffer trails (although it is far easier with a finishing polish and pad, I find the one-step polishes behave better with a DA than they do a rotary, but I think that's down to technique).

Great job. How long have you been doing paint correction for ? Must be quite nerve wrecking sanding down a car to begin with, especially when it's not yours. I enjoyed the long video and seeing the transformation.
@SuperchargedLlama
@SuperchargedLlama 2 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. I've been polishing for about 10 years, but that was as a weekend warrior (the usual, do you your own and friends & family). Professionally it's been 2 years and I must say that in that time I've learned more than I did before it. You get so much more exposure and time on the machine that it becomes far easier. The wet sanding looks daunting but I watched a video on Apex Detailing where Brian demonstrated that wet sanding took off less clear and was far cooler (therefore stressing the clear less) than compounding on wool and finishing with a one step or finishing polish, that sold it for me. 3000 grit is so fine too, you can get great gloss just with that and a 1 step. I also found that using the mini polisher with the denibbing pads gave me far more control than using it on a block, and I learned the hard way on my van not to use it wrapped around your finger.

Just wanted to ask with the rinsewash you are using does this remove all the oils and some fillers like ipa I'm looking into this brand as the dilution ratio of 1:250 which is insane
@SuperchargedLlama

I reckon it does, yes, but I always follow up with a panel prep from the manufacturer of the coating I'm going to use, or just IPA when I'm applying a sealant.

Would you recommend a clay bar before a DA. Did you clay bar on this occasion?
@SuperchargedLlama
@SuperchargedLlama Жыл бұрын
I always clay before polishing, and I'd say that you always should. Claying removes any stuff that could, at best, clog up the pad, diminishing performance. And at worst it could pick up something that it then spins around and around, scratching the paint.
