I bought a WL LS1 Statesman back in 2014 as a daily and only intended to have it for a year or so as I was planning to buy the upcoming Ls3 VF series 2. I ended up falling in love with the car and still have it today. It has been the most reliable and surprisingly economical car. Used to easily avg 9 litres per 100ks on the highway. My car only had 115k when I bought it and now has 255k. It was stock apart from the exhaust, extractors and airbox, and was in immaculate condition inside and out. Always loved blowing people off at the lights in it.

Have avq statesman that I paid a thousand dollars for of the side of the road, 304 v8 a bit ruff around the edges but still runs well with over free hundred and fifty thousand kilometres

Caprice was different by maximum performance n luxury, by lowered stance suspension, extra powerful stereo and screens, minor dashboard things , painted handles , badges n wheels, and headlights n grill, worked at holden and personally delivered more than 30 of these wk models, only 4 v6 engine and all others v8 , beige interior's were my personal favourite, and most were beige, especially if my influences had much to do with it and stock i chose 😅, they all sold tho in no time , and forget the luxury, that long wheel base was superb, especially Caprice versions and just delivered the v8s grunt to the ground with less chances of wheel spin ,, meaning she was quick off the mark, thats with traction off and smart driving bra8n on , feel with your pedal , yes your tungsten colour at least 4 cars , 1 were Caprice, main colours white and black the dominant 1 vesper blue, silver few

My WK was a Super6, Loved it, But really started to show its age, Sold it in 2020 or 21, Dont get me wrong, was a good car, decent on fuel but all the fiddly bits started to fail, AND THE GOD DAMN THERMOSTAT!!!! Can die in a hole ahahah what a pig of a job

I know your pain, I’ve had decades of experience working on cars, and it took me a whole arvo to do the thermostat in my in-laws WK L67.

The WK Caprice had stiffer springs given it a much sportier driving experience.

You might be right there - my in-law's Caprice is bone stock, and sounds better than many other stock LS1s. I remember when they got it, I was still able to get the brochure from the local Holden dealer, and from memory it had 10kw more than the Statesman LS1. Perhaps it was the freer flowing exhaust? Bit like the difference between early VE 6.0L at idle compared to later ones - the early 270kw cars seem to have a bit more rumble than the quieter 260kw ones.

Do the “2 hole” mod on the air box and it will sound better in the car, without looking modified, and without touching the exhaust.

Hey man I just bought a WK 2003 LS1 Statesman and I’d love to hear about this in more detail, are there any tutorial videos you could link me or something?

I’d also be curious to hear an example of one with the mod

@@samkubala2571 It gives it more of a roar from inside the car. Bit like the last VFs with the "active" intake noise gizmo. As far as how to do it, youtube won't allow links to external sites, but just search for "2 hole mod LS1" and you should get heaps of results from 15-20 years ago when this was a common thing to do. I did the in-law's WK Caprice when they bought it as a 3yo ex-lease car.
