Tipper, I bet you don't have a single viewer that has never experienced a loss. While listening to you reminisce about Pap, and describing items in your parents' house and how they hold special meaning to you, I could feel the lump in your throat as you were overwhelmed with emotion. We have all experienced those feelings; loss, nostalgia, reminiscing, etc. You have a wonderful way of telling your story, Tipper, in a manner that encourages your viewers to reflect on their own past. Although the title suggests this video is about an old recording, I feel it's a lesson about the cycle of life. I really enjoyed this one, Tipper. Thank you.

I have always had a fascination with Appalachia and recently found your channel. I also found out recently through a DNA test, that my ancestors were settlers in Virginia from England/Scotland/Ireland, that would explain my red hair and freckles and my love of your part of the country. Gosh does this bring back memories! My mom and her family were music folks. The family, friends and neighbors would gather in sometimes on Saturday afternoon. Mom cooked and the women would bring in dishes. They'd eat, visit, then set up to play music. They would play way into the night sometimes. The women would clean up the kitchen but leave the food on the table with a cloth covering- you can't do that today! Folks would play and sing, then talk a spell and eat a little more. Those videos you have are so precious. How I wish I had some from those good times! We kids would play outside then sit and listen to the folks singing, playing and telling stories from their lives. Kids were seen not heard back then, but we loved hearing the grownups talk. I still remember some of those stories. Thank you so much for sharing this precious piece of your family history. I so enjoy your and the girl's videos. Stay safe and GOD bless

Tipper, not having grandparents in my life, your sharing the memories , music, stories fill me with awe. I wouldn’t change a thing but realize there is an emptiness. My daddy would sing to us . Mexicali Rose, You can’t be true dear, He could whistle like a canary, open an apple with just his hands., Having only him ,as a child ,and losing him at 17 . He’d clean our faces with spit. Comb the “rats” out of our hair. Take off on a Sunday drive with a candy bar and a pop. With the canvas water bag for the radiator.....

That was so great. Not sure where we lost this beautiful music in our culture, but it sure beats 99% of what we hear today. In my youth I would sit and listen to similar music on my radio in my room late at night. The images created stirred my imagination. I'm not sure what duo sang the song "Just before dawn" but I think it was the Louvern brothers. Also listened to Patsy Cline sing "Walking after midnight". Moment like this are what binds families together for all time. Thanks Tipper

thank you so much for sharing this. Gave me big chills. This is a beautiful tradition that I hope never disappears, I just don't jive with the new modern sound most people lean towards. This is free of pretense, show boating or contrivance which is what has been lost in some modern approaches to music. Thats what makes this a spiritual experience, it clearly comes from the heart and is such a blessing to have people playing and singing like this while you're growing up.

oh,Tipper... you make me cry. lol tears in a hiraeth way. i feel you longing for those days. i listened to this on the porch, as its spring in the mountains and the sun going sown, while birds singing. it made me feel the days of old whn the radio would have been playing and this beautiful music you shared, came across it, into the night air. thank you for sharing your families memories. many thanks to Paul for recording this. that little rocker is a "sewing rocker". the ladies would sit and do hand piecing and sewing, thus the armless part. im a quilter and have always loved the little sewing rockers and handmade chairs from days of old.

I loved the video, they sound so great! I always think that I should record moments when the family is together so that someday down the road we can hear their voices again.

Thank you for sharing! A lot of my Appalachian family played music like this. This summer I’m going to visit George Gibson, the man who taught Clifton Hicks the banjo. Me and George are probably distant cousins, too.
