In the U.S. the Esso brand was changed to Exxon starting in the Fall of 1972. Esso service stations still exists today in countries such as Canada, South Africa and European countries. "Put a Tiger in your Tank!" and "Happy Motoring!"

And what was in store was the gradual loss of independent stations that worked on cars, to eventually become convenience stores that also sold gas.
