Nosferatu. The most random and unexplainable joke from the show for me as a child. Also one of the funniest, that episode also introduced me to slashers and german expressionism.

SpongeBob meme story from youth: When I was a kid, I had a sleepover with my cousins. We made a blanket fort and had flashlights under our chins to tell scary stories. My cousin goes, fully serious, "Once...there was an ugly barnacle. He was SO UGLY, everyone died. The end." Exactly how Patrick did it. Me and my other cousin managed to get through to the punchline and then started cracking up. Then we all took turns doing the same thing, laughing harder each time. Such a fond memory. Today, 15 years later, in a class full of 20-somethings, someone called someone a liar and someone else said, "Liar liar, plants for hire." And I said, "It's pants on fire, Patrick." And he turns to me and says, "Well, you would know. Liar." And we giggled about it. It's truly timeless for us, very "millennial humor," and I'll always be fond of those first few seasons.

The countless amount of new people I've connected through Spongebob is honestly insane. There are other shows' quotes that when I recite them, others can instantly recognize (i.e. The Office), but Spongebob really stands alone when it comes to this. It just has so many clever jokes that can be applied to everyday situations, whether it's being at school or working at a dead end job. And because they often employ this absurdist humor, it's almost like we are finding the absurd in our own daily lives and turning it into a funny moment. I have no idea if the person in your story who called someone a liar was doing so in a playful manner, but if so, its still dope af to see it turn into a moment that you remember to this day :) really glad that others are having similar experiences when reciting Spongebob quotes out in public lol

Yes!! When I was student teaching I had made all kinds of Spongebob jokes and references with the middle schoolers in my class and they were SHOCKED to learn that I, their 90s-baby student teacher, knew Spongebob. I made entire lesson plans around it and it was AWESOME.

Spongebob's humor is more witty than most modern "adult" cartoons. Rewatching it as an adult, I was genuinely impressed.

I still quote "You're good. You're good. You're good. You're good. You're good. You're good. And Stop. Don't worry, we can buff out all those scratches." when helping my uncle bring in cars to fix.

Dude you're doing amazing work. This video blew me away with the scripting AND editing. You obviously put a ton of work into this, which as a fellow video essayist I DEFINITELY recognize and appreciate. I really hope it blows up because it deserves to. It's hard for us to make quality content AND have it come out while the topic is still relevant when we put so much editing into it, but know that I absolutely LOVE this video. Hit me up sometime if you ever wanna talk, I'd love to ask you a few questions about the editing here.

Awwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel bad for The Fairly OddParents and Rugrats not having the same love as SpongeBob Squarepants for having meme culture and popularity.

Memes and popularity doesn’t mean quality (look at Hotel Mario and CDI Zelda for example). I’m one of the few people that don’t like Spongebob actually (even in the earlier seasons). I always find Spongebob as the family version of Ren and Stimpy (which I love Ren and Stimpy). My favorite show of all time is the original Powerpuff Girls (a cartoon that aired around the same time time as Spongebob that was much darker and had more action than Spongebob). The original Powerpuff Girls had the perfect balance of dark comedy and action for me. Even though the later seasons sucked that still different affect how I viewed the early seasons of the original Powerpuff Girls. Spongebob from the start felt like Ren and Stimpy but for kids.

No one has been able to replicate Stephen Hillenburg's unique sense of humor, not even Paul Tibbit (who ran the show from seasons 4-8 and is possibly running it again after Hillenburg's death). I'd say the show was more genius than you think.
@JeffreyThrash
@JeffreyThrash 4 жыл бұрын
That's not to say Paul Tibbit didn't try his absolute hardest to replicate the earlier season's success. His SpongeBob episodes still make me laugh, which is more than I can say about later seasons of Fairly Odd Parents, the Simpsons, Family Guy, or any other show that overstays its welcome for decades.

You don't have to like today's SpongeBob to be a fan of what it once was, it's gone quite downhill since then.
