Also note, these cars are NOTORIOUS for blowing cam sensors and crank sensors....which cause the SAME symptoms as in this video. The connectors are also known for getting Soaked with Oil, causing the sensors to short out. This causes Long starts, Random Stalling...sometimes the car stars immediately, sometimes it won't start for an Hour! Then it might not have an issue for 1 week, or 3 months, or it might stall again the next day!

PLEASE HELP! Any suggestions would be appreciated! At first I had a no start problem, turning the key it would just crank and crank repeatedly (fuel pump "does" bzzz/hmm, key in "on" position) without starting. I checked codes from the "CEL" (on-off-on-off-on while holding in trip/odometer)flash trick. Replaced "camshaft sensor," I tested for fuel from that port on the fuel rail by pushing in on the valve (?) and gas "does" stream out. Car starts and driven 3-4 days(locally/to-from). Then again, "no start" motor only "cranks." Got "CEL codes" then replaced "crankshaft position sensor," checked fuel rail & gas "does" stream out, turn key to "on" position and "can" hear fuel pump "bzzz/hmm," motor cranked and started, I let it run 10min(?), turned it off, 30min(?) later, motor cranks & starts, drove it about 5-10miles stopped at a gas station, filled to read half a tank of gas(was at 1/8 of tank), 200ft(?) from leaving the station the motor shuts off car dies. Pulled over put it in "park," turned key and would only crank "no start," checked over everything, "no" gas streamed out from fuel rail. Key at "on" position, you "can" hear the fuel pump (buzz/hmmm), still "no" start. Spray some starting fluid,(throttle body-to-brake booster hose & into cylinder "1") the motor starts, drives 2-3 miles motor shuts "off," I pull over put car in "park" turn key & motor cranks & starts(without using starting fluid), drive 30sec motor shuts "off" (did this routine 3 different times within 10min) until constant "no start" would only crank repeatedly with "no" stream from fuel rail, fuel pump "does" make "bzzz/hmmm" sound when key is at "on" position. While all this "cranks" but "no start" is happening, there is "no movement" from the "RPM" gauge(stays at 0*zero) while the motor is cranking. Sorry for the long message I just wanted to explain the details and any suggestions on a diagnosis or on my next steps to resolve this problem would be very helpful. Car is sitting on the side of highway, 2 more days and it gets towed by the city.

so i have a similar issue but like how your gas is half way so is mine right now so it will crank like two or three times before starting.... especially if i am almost to E it will take a like three times before it starts but if its closer to F it will start kind of fast. My 2005 neon never had anything replaced so we got the fuel pump so we are gonna try to install that cause the ring is so damn tight and never been touched its hard to get off. and if the new pump doesnt fix the issue it may be the pressure regulator... i did know when you turned it on before cranking it. your gas light showed and some other lights... my neon doesnt show up some lights... its very weird... I did it three times like you did and all it said "done"

Did you have to drain the tank before removing the regulator? Or is there a poppet valve that closes preventing fuel from coming out?

is it possible to replace the the pump without dropping the tank like is there enough room to pull ito out

Hi PkwyDr, my daughter has a 2004 Dodge Neon and just bought it a week or so ago. Sometimes it wont start up again when it's hot, We need to wait about 1 hour before it will even crank the engine. Could this be a vapor lock issue / weak fuel pump issue? I hope this makes sense. I will check back in a day or so. Thanks for your time. I liked this video by the way. Ed

Ford Focus 2010 would take a long time to start but only when it’s in a garage or parking lot where there aren’t a lot of oxygen. Could it be a fuel pump? It’s really weird.

it's the cat...I've got the upper 4 bolts off and loosened the bracket where it hooks to the exhaust but I can't get it out...am I missing something?

It's a lot easier if you put the blue tab in the line first.

My 1998 Neon starts hard (about 8-10 seconds) whether 20 below or 100 above. The turning the key 2 or 3 times before trying to start seems to shorten it to about 4-5 seconds. It will start right up if I shut it down and try right away. Is it most likely the regulator?

So I don't even need to disconnect the main power connection from the fuel pump? Only the one on the regulator?

dude you need to squeeze the wires on top and bottom sides. thats why theres a hole in the male part it holds it.

my 2002 neon started idling rough and bucking when trying accelerate to eventually when pedal was floored it'd do max 10mph up hill to get it home....could this be a fuel filter/fuel regulator problem or timing issue...where do I start?

hi when i open switch i take mesurement of the fuel pump i pick up 55 psi but in one second the presion of fuel pump fall up to 0 you think the fail maybe be pressure Regulator or Engine fuel pump regards :D

I had atleast same error codes but all error codes vanished since I replaced the cam sensor. The plastic cover of sensor was broken and some oil had went in it which caused bad idle and running. The sensor was cheap though. Now it atleast works and there's no error codes on. Cam sensor is typical problem. Usually goes broken at ~

Did this for hard starting and three months later engine dies at stop while running air condition so fuel pump problem , so advice WHEN REPLACE. PRESSURE GUAGE DO FUEL PUMP TOO SINCE YOU RIGHT THERE. Got fuel pump with new pressure gauge on ebay for bout 100 dollars when Autozone and orielys wanted 180 for just the pump ! PRICE GOUGING ?

The reason that you would turn your key on and off like that before actually starting the car is because you're letting air out and once the air is out your car will start.... Take it from a female LOL
