In today's video, after 25 years of waiting I finally get to drive my ultimate childhood dream car - The Lamborghini Diablo. This one is a 2000 6.0 VT, one of the first Lamborghinis to benefit from Audi influence - but did that ruin the raw experience I was expecting?

You drove it a very short time and nailed it!! After seven years of ownership (1994 Diablo VT) I can assure you, you will fear it after hitting the redline on a corner! You drove it conservatively keeping the redline out of sight (understandably not your car). I finally removed the front driveshaft after five years ownership, rear wheel drive is the way to go. There is a lot of Diablo misinformation, overall an absolutely fantastic super car for the money! KZfaq viewers will be waiting for the Diablo story to unfold (you should get one before the prices hit the sky). Early model Diablo's have slow electric windows but nothing much else is slow about them. Stock exhaust is amazing, the car is incredible! Yeah, fresh tires are very important for overall ride and handling. Get one, your KZfaq channel will hopefully reward you.

The feelings you showed here were exactly how I would feel in your position. I always picked the Diablo in need for speed 3: Hot Pursuit and had a Yellow SV on my wall as a kid! Also what you said about cars outperforming the Diablo being irrelevant to you is how I feel about my 03 R32 Golf. Newer DSG turbo cars would outperform it but it is by far the more enjoyable drive with the lovely manual box, the mechanical AWD grip and the V6 singing away!

So glad meeting your hero didn't disappoint you. I'm a bit older than you and my hero car was the Countach S. I first saw a picture of it, a prototype, in Car Magazine. It was wearing black plastic wheel arch extensions. What really impressed me, even back then as a teenager, was the back story the magazine provided through the factory tour. It showed how the car chassis was created out of bits of metal and aluminium tubing being welded and brazed together. Even then it was recognised that this was probably the last of its type. But it struck me how special it was and how special it must be to be able to order a car and know that a dozen craftsmen were making it by hand. I wonder how many of those able to order one actually appreciated how privileged they were to buy one let alone drive one. You clearly appreciated your privilege.

I think your quote perfectly sums up a dream car: "A Golf R could be all over this car, no problem. It could keep up with it easy, half the power, but that's not the point" I recently bought my dream car an R34. In the same vein as that diablo not being the 'exact' car you dreamed of my R34 is a GTT not a GTR, but the joy I get out of seeing that car and driving it is more than any car I could imagine. Something like a Focus RS or an M5 would obliterate me in any race but I simply don't care. It's my hero, and that's all that matters

It's nice to see that when your dream finally became real, it didn't disappoint. It's also nice to see someone genuinely *appreciating* a car like this, as something other than a money penis for a plutocrat. Indeed, one of the signs of a genuine enthusiast, is that they're not so much driving the car as wearing it. The special feeling that you're not so much operating a machine, rather becoming symbiotic with another organism, is what separates the enthusiast from the mere snob. :)

Love it! I saw one in the Tiriac Museum in Bucharest and sat down on the ground beside it , just to understand the proportions. That's probably as close as I'll get to driving one in my life. Thanks for the vicarious thrills.

Great to see you got to drive your dream car. I know those roads very well and over the years seeing and hearing a Diablo is something special.

You've come a long way mate. Getting more popular every day. Well deserved. Top class reviews by a top class dude who knows what he's talking about. I'm around the same age as you too so I get what you mean when you talk about old racing games and hero cars. Well done man

Your choice of shirts makes you an ideal Diablo owner! Awesome car and the 6.0 VT in Gold or maybe a Viola SE30 would be my ideal specs

Superb video and delivers a genuinely new and very informative take for many people on what is often an overlooked Lambo post Audi's involvement. On a separate note - the wheel arch is designed to mimic the shape of the Countach and has since become a Lamborghini trademark or equivalent of, for example BMW's old kidneys or Hofmeister kink. You can still see it in the current Urus etc... 100 % certain that you were not speeding in this video, however if you were "framed" please put the pics in on of your future videos. ((-:)

"the wheel arch is designed to mimic the shape of the Countach... " I'm glad someone pointed that out, it's by no means a mistake. I also the Diablo's rear deck - although curvier - has elements of the Countach esp. the later QV models.

Outstanding review James. Thank you. The peculiar shape of the rear wheel arch is a Gandini design. Also seen on Maseratis of the period.
