Sorry I’m late. When you told the story of the old man who owned the car and passed away…well I’m here because my grandpa also passed and I got his 2000 grand marquis. He also like your story, kept it in amazing condition and only ever put 36k miles on it. You basically explained my situation perfectly. And I gotta say, it’s a family treasure and amazing ride. RIP Papa, I’m going to take care of her.

Some of the features like the metal seatbelts, ashtrays for every passenger, huge trunk with no passthrough, hidden windshield wipers, and leaned back seating, are just features of old cars. The more you drive 80s and 90s cars, the more you realize how much of a hold out to the old school the Panthers really were. GM let it go with the Caprice, but the Vic was still making decent fleet sales in 2011.They were the last ones with hood and trunk proportions similar to the passenger compartment, the last "car that looks like a car" for a lot of people. Great channel!

3rd gen did get more modern looking seat belt buckles for 2001 and 2002. What you have there in that 2000 is the same seat belt buckle that dates back to the 70's from FoMoCo. Personally my favorite for some reason. :-)

I bought a baby blue 99 Grand Marquis LS in mint condition when I started college in the US. It was imported into NY State from Florida by a dealership that specialized in cars from non-Salt Belt states. I was thoroughly impressed with this large saloon (and quite an upgrade from the Citroen Berlingo that I learnt to drive in!). Greetings from South Africa.

bought mine(2002) in 2016 with 150k miles for 1200$cdn(850US).l use to driving small cars and others in past and had a hard time adjusting to size. NOW its my favourite and so SMOOTH! no mechanical problems except replace coils on plugs. showed it to my father and he was impressed and said it will be considered a classic in future. great video. can't beat the value on this car and better than buying a new car. next one will be another from arizona(rust free) even if the value is excessive.

Yes these cars are a nice place to be :). I have a 97 g-marquis ls imo it’s THE best looking one of them ALL not much chrome at all no chrome over the wheel wells no extra badges and the rear tail lights are just imo the best looking of the 90’s cars. We just got a 96 p71 so depending on my mood is what I drive. But my Gmarquis is a serious system car with two custom made 90 pound each subwoofers with the bigger Alt and two XSpower d7500 batts just so day the bare min of my set up. I want 4 more panthers 1 town car another p71 and another Gmarquis. A panther addict I know :)

I bought a '91 G-Marquis (my favorite body style) in 2005 for $3000 with 40K. I sold it in 2013 for $1850 and bought a 2001 G-Marquis for $3500 with 38K, which has 108K now (I plan to put another 100K on it if I live that long). So I've been driving 17 years for a grand total sales price of $4650. Of course I've put in head gasket, heater core, alternator; the usual with these cars. But you get a whole lot of car for not a lot of money with these guys. The rear air shocks went out at about 95K and I put in the shocks/springs kit for $400. Works great, don't hesitate if you have one to put in the rear springs. I didn't have to, but put in new struts in the front and it drove like a brand-new car I was so impressed.

Inherited a 2000 in 2020, 69,000 miles. Hate that there is no indicator on the dash when the cruise control is set. Replaced all wear items, hoses, belts, antifreeze, oil/filter, transmission fluid/filter/pan with a drain plug, rear end fluid, 13 year old tires( 5,000 miles on them), put cut explorer console in for cup holders that Hold cups and bottles without blocking temp controls, rear console with cupholders out of a Lincoln, aluminum driveshaft , police dual exhaust and sway bars, . shocks, fuel pump/filter, A-arms, ball joints, idler arm bushings, front end rubber deteriorated even during the almost 20 years in the garage. Gets 20mpg at 60, 26 at 75mph with air on. Can let you sleep if not careful.

I have one w/that engine, and I drive in N.E. Georgia Mnts, and Smokies. This car does have plenty of power for these mountains. I travel w/ 4 occupants, and the power is the same as if I'm alone. It's not a terribly fsst car (like my '96 Fleetwood!) but it is a Great road car. It truly is a Grampa car, cuz it eats gas! I have better results w/mid-grade, and gets a lil better gad mil. But as far as hills and mnts, no worries; it has really good power to boogie you up those hills! And handles really great to boot! 👍💪💖

Got one it takes me there. It is very clean too. I don't buy new cars anymore, I just find well cared for used cars that have just as much to offer for less than what the original owner paid for it in taxes Alone.😎 My last car was a Prius I GAVE it away, days later the hybrid battery took a shit. Green tech auto$2100 all new cells . Last time I did it was 5 years ago $2,600. Price went down battery quality up. I just don't drive enough to warrant owning a hybrid. They need to be driven I can't give it the mileage it requires. Buying my 2000 GRAND MARQUIS $1900 is going to save money in the long run. It cost around$320 to get a trailer hitch installed by u-haul My driver window doesn't open the locksame door doesn't move when you use the remote. Has something off with steering I drive so little I'll think about fixing it in about a year. Not that important to me I never DRIVE through and own a motorcycle, I Take the car if I just got a shower or it's raining. I come and go all day on the bike cost hardly any fuel.

I enjoyed your review. I own a 2000 MGM with only 100K on it. Very smooth and comfy to drive. You didn't tell us if you had the GS or the LS model but since you had hubcaps and no CD player, I suspect you had the GS. I have the LS model but I still only have the tape deck. I do have alloy wheels though. I wouldin't go as far as to say that people who have crappy abused cars live in houses about to fall down but its a funny point. I am meticulous about caring for my own car, and I love having the satisfaction of doing repairs and preventive maintenance on it myself.

@@Undertaker788 now has 227k. I have done expected maintenance myself like ball joints and tirod and brakes but that's expected. I did have to replace a belt tensioner $18 rock auto, and alternator at 205k for about $100 and a fuel pump for $65 at 200k miles doing the work myself. But that's kind of stuff is expected at those kind of miles. Alternator on this car literly takes less than 5 minutes to replace if you know what your doing. Original engine and transmission going strong still drive it 60 miles a day. These cars are built for many miles and comfort. Last true body on frame sedan.

Ford definitely makes commercial vehicles with different parts or something because we have some transit vans that we beat the fuck up and they have 250,000 miles without any major issues. I’m pretty sure that they probably use the same concept when they build, or when they used to build, these vehicles. Obviously they still use some plastic parts like the intake manifold and stuff but there must be something else that they do to make these last an extra 200,000 miles, if properly cared for. Up until last week I had a 2004 Lincoln LS V8… and after car shopping for a week with depressing options with $15K in hand. I just found a 1999 mercury grand Marquis with 76,000 miles! I’m actually pretty excited now when car shopping wasn’t even on my agenda 10 days ago. My Lincoln had 140k miles. It had its issues mounting, but also had a lot sentimental value, but I know my dad would’ve loved this car even more!

@@shartingfish5761 You're wrong! It was in 2003 when Ford switched the Panther cars to rack & pinion steering and revised suspension... As far as the ride being less soft, I don't think you can really tell, cos I test drove a 97 GM that I almost bought, but was just too expensive for my budget at the time; Now I own a 2006 LS Premium, a 2006 Ultimate Edition model and one 2005 LS Premium with the Handling package, 2 of the cars have the Air Suspension and having that alone will make the cars ride quite a bit better than non air-equipped ones...

@shartingfish5761 4 жыл бұрын
Philip Thomas If you can't tell the ride difference, that's cool, in my experience the Cadillac's ride better, that magnetic ride control suspension is WAY softer than air, it rides like a 70's lincoln.. much different than the panther.
