Original Video:
• Unlocking 2001 to 2005...
I was not completely aware of this issue until recently when I finally got around to trying it my self.
There appear to be four versions of these radios used though out their production life. This video is to educate people of the version that will not unlock from removing the EEPROM Chip. Removal of the chip in this version ruins the radio, and leaves it as a very interesting paper weight.
All three radios in this video, I acquired locally and are just part of my vast collection of GM Stereo systems.
If you go ahead with any modification to your radio, I am in no way liable for damage to your unit. I have only put up this video, and the other as educational videos of how to unlock these radios to use them in whatever application they chose, whether it be their personal car, garage bench, whatever. You paid for it, it's YOUR radio, do whatever you want with it.
As a car stereo collector, I want the ability to power these radios, and enjoy them on my bench with out the car or any of the cars systems being present, which is why I have taken the time to educate my self on how these work, and how to force them to turn on and work independent of the original vehicle. I purchase them all from local scrap yards.
