Nice video thanks for posting. Since I also have an alarm/remote start unit I tapped into the secondary ignition wire to trigger an external relay so the relay can supply power from the orange 12 volt constant from the factory harness to the red 12 volt switched/ignition wire on the aftermarket radio harness. I then relocated the factory RDS radio to the trunk and connected the necessary power and data/bus wires to the unit so I can retain the ability to reset the (change engine oil, low tire pressure) and other features that the RDS factory unit is needed to change. I have a 01 Monte Carlo SS the 2 wires for the Onstar audio have also been connected to a hi/lo converter and feed to the left front channel of my 4 channel amp using an RCA Y adaptor to have a kick ass Madison Square Garden like system and still retain all the functionality of the cars original setup, one day I will take the time post a video explaining all of this as you have ...again nice video great info thanks for sharing. thanks, hope this works. ive been trying to figure this out. the wire is normally yellow. i know on my car it's controlled by the door, when you open, the radio turns off. this vid looks like it will solve it. as of now i had to twist the yellow and red on the am stereo, so radio is always on! thanks!

me personally I like the Delco radios from 96-05 simple too use iinside the vehicle or in the garage

I really appreciate the video. Very informative. My problem is that i have a 2007 radio taken out of a gmc. I can play in test mode for only 5 minutes. My old gmc connector only has one cable in addition to 8 speaker, gnd and power cables. B2 has a orange wire, similar to +12v on B1. When i place+12v on B2, radio does not work. It is as if the B2 is controlled by radio codes when ignition is on. Is there any way to make this radio work out of the vehicle?

Which wires do I need to bench power an rds radio, B1 is batt + and A12 is ground, with these two hooked up to power I have CD eject and load but no lights.

Any tips for the rear GM DVD units ? The unit will not power on at all. It has a 16 pin harness I believe but it uses data to turn on when the ignition signal is turned on. I tried hooking up the 12V to the class 2 data wire but nothing. It just inserts and ejects the dvd disc. I am looking to find a way to generate the canbus ignition signal maybe with a spare PCM, its going into a GM vehicle so I will try to class 2 in my vehicle as a last resort.

I have a GM Cassette/CD RDS radio from 2000, same harness. I swapped per this, same pinout. Didn’t power it on beyond the flashing TheftLock light. :(

As to switching the wire, check the plugs pinout, I have found three different pinouts for these plugs some have ignition switch "on" signal to A6, some on B2, and some on B3, mine happens to be B2. The speaker pinouts are all the same as is power and ground. I got a harness from a trailblazer in the JY but I can't figure out how to get the wire out. there is more to it than just pulling the blue clips. The terminal inside has a barb that has to be depressed to release the wire. I removed the EEprom, radio works, but the CD/Aux button doesn't play the CD even if one is in, I have to eject and re-insert the CD to play it. The speaker wires are easy to ID as they as twisted in pairs.

So my 07 gmc savana radio plug doesn't have that yellow power source in the back, how would it work if it does not have it. Online diagram just say to run the power source from the new radio to the steering column 12v ignition accessory.

My stereo in my car works pretty interestingly. It works as long as the engine does not run. As soon as I start the engine the radio locks up. So I was wondering if there is a wire that I could disconnect so that the radio does not know that the engine is running? My car is a 2001 cavalier

I have been having some massive trouble installing my after market radio in my 2004 chevy malibu maxx, i took my radio out and my wires are so faded i can not tell which color is which. I have a live wire tester to use to find the hot wire which is good. my issues now is my radio has a 12v acc wire and a constant hot (yellow wire with fuse) i found a digram of which color is which but still having trouble getting the radio to work

Personally I think this is too much work to install an old outdated radio in a newer vehicle of the same make it's much simpler installing an aftermarket radio and harness not to mention the upgrade in technology you would get from the aftermarket radio which blows away the factory radio as well as the older style factory radio
