This is video on how to replace a valve cover gasket on 2000 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder engine. There was a oil leak from valve cover and the gasket had to be replace.
correction: I video I refer to brake fluid cleaner I meant to say brake parts cleaner that's what I used to clean valve cover and where it seats.
Valve cover 17 lbs torque on valve cover nuts.
Toyota parts:
Valve cover gasket 11213-74020
Valve cover Grommets 90480-30025 Qty 4
PCV valve 12204-74030

I appreciate you showing this all in (mostly) real-time without skipping to the end of every step. So many videos just tell you what to do without showing you how it’s actually done or have the whole engine pulled out of the car, like anyone’s gonna do that just to replace a calve cover gasket.

I did the exact same thing..Bought a new PCV valve after breaking mine during reassembly. My grommet was so old and brittle, it broke into three pieces, two of which fell inside the valve cover. Thankfully, I was able to fish them out of the shallow chamber inside the valve cover.

Thorough video. Well done! I like using Toyota pink grease on rubber seals/gaskets when reinstalling. Also helps hold the seals into their respective grooves when installing. Also… On those little half moons at each end of the cam shaft on the block, it’s best to remove both, clean them up, and apply fresh RTV between them and the head. I didn’t apply any on top of them like you did, so we will see how it holds up.

This is great, thanks so much for making man. A heads up with the spark plug tube nuts, quite a few sources I found have it down for 33 ft lbs with the torque wrench, otherwise the cover head won't be on tight enough and further leaks can come. Be sure to tighten the bolts in increments and not all at once, otherwise the cover head may crack. Suggested weights are 17 ft lbs, to 25, to finally 33.

Nice job but when you take the cover off don't turn upside down over exposed engine internals unless it's pre cleaned debris fell off at 12:40 ish and fell inside which isn't good, grit inside the oil could be a problem but great job.

My Camry valve cover leaked because of blow by gas from the crankcase overwhelming the PCV valve, so I pulled up the oil dipstick to allow the pressure to escape. The valve cover has a vent tube on the driver side, its internal screen might be clogged.

@databug88
@databug88 Жыл бұрын
Its in video 17 lbs torque on valve cover nuts.
@dbfcrell8300
@dbfcrell8300 Жыл бұрын
@@databug88 My book says it's 33ft. lbs brought to spec in 3 - 4 equal increments torquing the two inner nuts first then the two outer nuts. As suggested by someone above, torque to 17ft. lbs, then to 25ft. lbs, then finally to the 33ft.lbs. This should do the trick. As a side note, you may wanna apply some sealant to the distributor hole on the driver side part of the head while you have the valve cover off as this is known to leak on the 2.2l 5SFE. You can also replace it really cheaply with the correct Toyota part.
