Toyota Camry Valve Cover Gasket Replacement 1992-2001. How to Replace Valve Cover Gasket on a Toyota Camry 2.2L. How to fix an Oil Leak on a Toyota Camry. Remove and Reinstall Valve cover on a toyota 2.2l. Replacing spark plug tube seals.

Was told at an oil shop my 94 camry with only 72K miles had one of these leaking. I was scared at the cost, but then I remembered how damn simple these cars were and your video proves it. This is a HILARIOUSLY simple fix i'll just do myself.

Yea theyre pretty easy to work on..wouldnt expect em to leak at that mileage yet, but guess its more the age of the gasket

@@backyardchevy328 Yeah, it's in good shape for the milage and being a camry and clean, it should be fine. But I'm finding out age really does take it's toll. I can feel the driver's side control arm bushings going out too, so again probably just it's age.

@@rushnerd yea, unfortunately the rubbers tend to dry out and crack..but hopefully its only that gasket👍..well that and the control arm bushing that is

Can't remeber the torque spec. I think it's like 22lbs. The real key is retorquing a month after because they get loose

Wipe the inside where the valve cover fits in the valve cover gasket. I sprayed brake cleaner and used a toothbrush size wire brush. Perfectly clean!!

@@jpalacess4735 unfortunately no, but its pretty easy to do..there will be a lower drain plug to drain it...and a fill plug above the drain plug which u fill til fluid begins to come out of it

You should also reseal the distributor hole plug and the half moon sections with RTV silicone while here. Or you’ll be doing it again like I did.

I just did this on my brothers 96 Camry, thanks for the video! Did you change the moon spacers? I didn’t know that they needed to be removed and either put new gasket maker or use the new moon gaskets that come with the gasket kit.

Get a tiny wire brush. They sell a steel,brass,and a nylon bristle brush in a package at dollar tree for $1.25

Brake cleaner works for the application you used it, but a better option is carb cleaner. They basically do the same thing to oil, but the carb cleaner won’t eat through rubbers, plastics, or other soft materials.

Hoses will be compremised, change any that oil has leaked on, because your power outage is going to be higher and it will pop those hoses right off.

Yes they can get really bad kinda gummy or the rubber can also get really stiff with the years and heat

Are you using hard drying high temp. sealant or non hardening? Like RTV.

I think that bigger hose is called a crankcase breather hose..while that short one is the pcv hose.

Which year was this specifically? I am trying to find out if the half moon seal exists on the ones with a distributor or not before I crack mine open to do. Mine is a 92. Thanks.

@@backyardchevy328 The reason I ask is I had the thought that the half moon was supposed to plug up an area where the distributor went on the cars that change their ignition system. Did yours have a distributor?

@@EricVonHunter yes, it had the distributor..if it had a seal to plug the area the gasket would be the same, since it still would still have that cam bearing cap and the seal goes inside of that rear cam bearing cap

I wonder if this is a common issue with these cars. I have a 93 and it's leaking oil in the exact same spot right above the exhaust manifold

Yes, its the nuts that tighten down the valve cover..most vehicles have bolts all around the perimeter and those tend to have less issues...these since the tighten in the middle its easier to get oil past the gasket

@@backyardchevy328 such a ridiculous design…😒 and hopefully the PO didn’t ruin anything either. He put some head gasket sealant into the crankcase to try to stop it. The engine seems to run great. 265k miles and runs strong as hell, no ticks or knocks. Hoping it’s just a quick easy fix.

@@bushpilot223 head gasket sealant in crankcase..instead of replacing the valve cover gasket?..luckily its an older design..cause that in newer engines may cause lots of oil pressure issues
