In 2006 I took a Quackenbush .457 cal Air rifle to South Africa to hunt big game. In 2007 a friend of mine Stephan Boles bought the air gun and wanted to kill a Bison. So we headed to central Texas and did just that. At 53 Yards the Quackenbush .457 cal Air gun shooting a 510 grain bullet doing over 700 fps took down the Bison quickly with two perfect shots.

Isn't all hunting today like that? Put a pile of corn on the ground and sit in a condo 80yds out at 4am and wait. So I wouldn't be so quick to critique his style (though agreed it was a little tacky). But I like that there is some innovation here. He killed a 2k lbs wild animal with an air rifle!! That's insane! - Haters can hate .. but this was a kool new way to hunt (imho).

Astonishing. But I don't know if you have to be very proud of it. 2 shots and he's still standing? Almost 2 minutes until he was finally dead, 2 minutes too much suffering for my taste. I prefer when the game falls in the shot and that includes choosing the right caliber. You could have made it fall with a 22 Hornet, the only question is when.

@thorsten... I agree. I'm willing to bet that feeling "awesome" after a hunt is not what this guy thinks it is; if he had to work for it, put in the effort of stalking his prey, some skill, and education to perform a quick kill.... then, he MIGHT get to feel awesome. This made me feel uncomfortable, and almost made me sound like a vegetarian (God forbid!) in my own head....

@@EricHendersonAdventuresAfield Yeah we’ve red deer in Ireland but it’s highly regulated. Only certain calibre rifles etc. I prefer to use air rifles to hunt but as I live in the North of Ireland, all firearms (even air rifles) have to be approved by the police service before they’re registered on my firearm license. It’d be a nightmare getting an air rifle approved for foxes so red deer would be next to impossible. Their reasoning is that there are more suitable calibre guns, the smallest calibre approved for deer species is .243

@@robbiedev2141here in Nebraska, USA we can use .22 caliber centerfires as long as the load delivers 900 ft lbs at 100 yards. I've taken more deer (130 - 170#) with a .22-250 over 30 years, from 250 yards and in than any other cartridge. 20-30 yards the most distance moved before collapse. 90%+ were DRT'd. It is an AEA air rifle. 50 cal and they have around 4500psi in the air cylinder. It has over 500 foot pounds of energy since he was shooting a bullet over 500 grain about the size of a big thumb. Wasn't much of a hunt since they are on private property. Where the owners feed these bison and they are fenced in so you have no stalking or you are guaranteed to get one because these are like cows in a pasture not wild. They are used to seeing humans. That means you can walk right up to them and they will ignore you unless you get real close then they would move away.

Where I live you're not even allowed by law to hunt with air rifles, and this video just shows perfectly why in my opinion. It turns my stomach. And for your information, I'm 63, and I've been a hunter for over 40 years now. Unless you were using an elephant gun the result would have been fairly similar, you're poking a finger sized hole in something the size of a small car, even if the bullet is going faster to tear up it's insides with hydrostatic shock, the permanent wound cavity would still be about the same. Even deer shot with something like a .30-06, something more than powerful enough to kill it, it can still run off a good distance before bleeding out. Unless you hit the heart or the head, death will take a few minutes, and that gets longer the bigger the animal is, unless again, you hit it would something so massive like an elephant gun to just rip apart it's insides and cause hemorrhaging in the brain from overpressure of it's arteries.

For those of you that are saying that the animal suffered for too long and that this wasn't a humane kill I would be curious to know how this is any different than an archery hunt? he took the most lethal shot he could have right through the heart lungs area !! And furthermore it's one of the largest animals in north America they don't die easily even in the wild it can take days for a pack of wolves or mountain lions to kill an adult bison !! Congrats on harvesting a great animal sir good job and enjoy the meat it's some of the best you can get in my opinion !!

I dont think people have enough brain capacity to understand what the surviving Buffalo just went through in this clip,, animals have brains and they work sometimes better than our own. Imagine your walking through the woods with your buddy and then he just falls over and dies and you need to walk home alone,, also seeing 2 aliens in the tree line giving high fives after your freind is confirmed to be dead. Honestly guys theres a HUGE DIFFERENCE between what hunters call "ethical" and whats morally correct. Its immoral and disgusting to shoot at 1 bison while its walking with its mate and just sit in the bushes while they have their last moments. I dont think we shouldnt be killing, it needs to be done often and its essential for our own survival. But this was mainly for your and others entertainment, that makes it gross, sad video in which its only redemption comes from small minded hunters who clap and smile for blood

I'm glad us air gunners understand what the point was in this video. For those in the rear, the video was showing the amount an air rifle has and what its capable of doing. As far as hunting on a game reserve, its no different than a Trophy hunter doing the same thing. They just use a powder burner gun but they are real hunters. REALLY !!!! GTFOH with that BS.

@@EricHendersonAdventuresAfield THXS, I own 25 pcp air rifles and I know what they can and will do. Been in the game for over 10 yrs with pcp rifles so I pretty much have an ideal what the do. Some people aren't willing to ADAPT, and some just don't wanna admit that air guns are the next great thing as long as some dumb ass don't use it for the wrong reason. Can't wait till I get my 25 or 30 cal full auto, I'm running everything out the woods lol Now watch somebody disagree with a full auto pcp, but then its ok for them to use ARs when they hunt. Myself as long as I'm having fun, and it puts meat on the table and in the freezer, I could care less what others think !!!

You tube, why would you think my comment was disrespectful ??? By saying I hope some dumb A$$ doesn't screw up the sport, I don't see that as being disrespectful and as far as how others hunt, thats their business. Just don't try and put me down for how I choose to do so. Most people in the comments probably don't even own a pcp rifle and don't know just how dependable they are when you hunt with them.

Yeah not sure about this video tell me is it about putting meat in the freezer because you like Bison meat or was this just about Killing the animal with an Air rifle because this was definitely not a hunt it's more like a walk up and Kill stuff like this gives hunters a bad name 🤔

yea u should feel bad actually why would u kill that buffalo when theres a kroger on every corner and it dosent look like your missing any meals! just dont think its kool to kill somthin that kool for sport man u only kill somthing like that if your trying to feed your family or living of the grid. and actually need the meat. i own both those air riles the zues an the hammer and i only use mine for target practice home defense an RV travels just in case thats it

Don't pull that shit with me, boy. One takes on the responsibility of using sufficient weaponry when attacking prey. One accepts the responsibility of dispatching a wounded animal rather than film it in its death throws. That spectacle was irresponsible and inhumane and the particpants are punks.@@EricHendersonAdventuresAfield

Yeah im impressed buy the airgun but i wouldnt call this a hunt. If you track an animal for miles and learn its patterns over a period of time then its a hunt. This was just a prearranged kill. Still the airgun was impressive and the shot placement wasnt terrible.

These bison are in a pasture where the owner of the property feeds them and charges hunters a huge amount for a hunter to kill one. Not much of a hunt as these bison are used to humans being in close proximity to them. I have nothing against hunting but this isn't hunting. This is like the African landowners who keep lions or other big game so the so-called hunters blast them with a scoped rifle and a huge caliber ammo. How they can call this hunting is beyond me. There were and probably still are places in Africa where they charge a rich killer to shoot lions while the animal is in a fenced enclosure and have no means of avoiding the pseudo Hunter. Like shooting fish in a barrel.
