This is a super cool project/idea! tool batteries could be a good base for portable power stations. For the spade terminals, a crimp is preferred to soldering. Solder has a different thermal expansion rate and can work its way loose over time. Crimps are gas tight (in theory) and should never come undone. non-insulated crimp pliers are my favorite. Solder n seal connections are also a good product for making easy solder connections.

At what voltage does the inverter turn off? There is a suspicion that the batteries will only be used at half capacity. And there is no protection board. If you insert different batteries, for example one is discharged, the other is charged, then there will be fireworks.

Very nice project, But what about some circuit breaker? Or there is no need for it? Also what would you do if the packs in series are uneven to the others packs, how owuld you balance them? (Ive got 2x24v battery packs in series and 48v inverter and i cant find solution for balancing packs between them)
@BigBadUrug
@BigBadUrug Жыл бұрын
Yes. That is the main hazard here. Those battery packs lacks safety features. Uneven packs will cause huge ballancing currents. It is very unsafe to use like this for someone that knows what that can cause. Your problem cannot be solved without proper custom pcb preferably with mcu.
@RandallJakub
@RandallJakub Жыл бұрын
@@BigBadUrug yes I was thinking about making some custom pcb for that but I have no idea how. My only solution for now is to every moth or just when needed I reconfigure series into paralel to balance and charge packs and then back to series to load.
@imho7250
@imho7250 Жыл бұрын
For his project its not a problem because it cant charge the batteries and that means he must use the battery charger that came with the batteries, and every cordless tool battery comes with a BMS inside so it will balance if the correct charger is used and the battery was never allowed to get too far out of balance. In your case it seems like you are trying to use a 48v charger to charge 2x24v batteries which are in series. If you just use the original 24v charger and charge each individually it will balance it again. If you fully charge both your batteries and one battery voltage drops much faster than the other when in use then you are not using matched batteries of same capacity, quality and age.
@RandallJakub
@RandallJakub Жыл бұрын
@@imho7250 yes but only cells inside those packs are balanced because of bms in each pack, and packs in paralel are also balanced but then packs in series in this project aren't balanced like battery between the other battery so one could cut-off earlier then the others
@BigBadUrug
@BigBadUrug Жыл бұрын
Yes, if only fully charged batteries are used. Once less charged batterie is inserted beteeen fully charged ones, current determined by voltage mismatch, internal ressistance of cells and wiring will flow to equalize the batteries. And that can be easilly in hundreads of amps

I want to make a 12V coolbox powered by 2 or 3 battery's but don't know what boards I need to use. At least a voltage reducer from 20v to 12/13.8V and underloaded protection I think. I would assume 24mah (three 8ah parkside batteries) would be sufficient to run a coolbox like that for some time right?
@stephenmichael3211
@stephenmichael3211 9 ай бұрын
The problem is, if you use a Dc-Dc converter to convert the 20v to 12/13.8v, your 12v coolbox will suck your cordless battery up to 10.9v before it stop. 20v cordless battery ended up as 10.9v cordless battery = cordless battery is dead

Aha. But why did the voltage drop to 165v? I also ordered it, it was on offer at half price, €130. I've been thinking about an inverter for the Parkside batteries for a long time, but the 12v and 24v ones didn't match the battery voltages. I hope the inverter is good. I'm afraid it doesn't work with inductive loads (motors, refrigerators, flexes, etc.)
@Sim_Tiby
@Sim_Tiby Жыл бұрын
Pay attention to the balancing of the batteries. If you put in parallel with voltage differences, current flows from one to the other. And many amps can go. And if you put a full battery and an empty one in series, the voltage seems to be 50% and when you discharge you bring the empty battery below 2.5v/cell.
@ErCanEverything
@ErCanEverything Жыл бұрын
The voltage drops because the load I am switching on is over 2KW. 12V and 24V versions are cheap and available everywhere, but for my purpose I needed 36V or 72V. I also tried it on a 1300W Parkside vacuum cleaner and when I turn it on, it beeps once for peak power, but it works without a problem. And the angle grinder should work without a problem, but I will make a video about that as well.

Can anybody tell if i am right about you need to charge all battery fully befor connect them to the inverter othervice you can destroy the batteries?

What about batteries that may not output the same voltage? For example you put in a battery that isn't fully charged? Won't the power be dumped straight into the lowest voltage battery?

Well recognized! So you should not connect battery packs together. A few diodes would be absolutely useful!

Yeah I think using for each battery a diode that allows current flow in one direction only would be a good idea.

This is not his only problem. There is no and i realy mean no protection included. If the inverters low voltage shutoff is to low he will overdischarge his batteries. And i am not even sure if the inverter has this function. If he puts 2 diffrent charged, aged or sized batteries in series the lower one will die by overdischarging. With a cell shortage the other cells will try to load the shorted cell with even more heat. If he draws to much power, there is no temperature protection for the batteries. These are lithium batteries, so they will explode with too much heat. Circuit boards with troughhole components have sharp edges, that can penetrate the cables from the batteries. He can insert 2 small 1 row battery packs and the inverter will work. That means 55 A for a cell rated at 10, 20, maybe 30 A. And with his self made connectors this could happen through bad connection. Diodes are no solution for that much power. They have to disipate 40 W of heat at full power. More if the batteries are empty. Intelligent Diodes or something simliar is needed.

The inverter has low voltage protection, which triggers the alarm at 32V and turns off at 31V. The manufacturer allows up to 100A on 8Ah batteries which are sufficient, but above 1000W, 4 batteries are mandatory, otherwise 2 batteries can be used up to 1000W. And the other rule is that identical pairs must be used which must be charged to the same voltage. If these rules are followed, nothing will happen to the batteries.

@@maximilianreichelt9717 calm down. Each battery pack has an integrated BMS with thermal, over- and undervoltage protection. Overload protection is also integrated. Except for problems with balancing or uneven discharge, nothing happens. All in all, this is cleanly built together!👍

this can by used with ebike / e-scooter batteries (10S - 36V)too. But you have to be sure how much current the battery can supply max. 2000W @ 36V = 55A, this is too much for all this batteries... basicaly is only max 20A capable

Yes, it is possible to use 10S LiIon batteries, but at least 3 pcs will be needed or at least 4 batteries from the e-bike🙂 Otherwise, the working voltage of the inverter is between 30V and 45V
