0:51 And right there in front of Jarrett is Rusty Wallace, who managed to recover to finish third. If it weren't for Dale Earnhardt's death, Rusty Wallace's third place finish would've been the talked about story of the day, given how he spent the better part of the first three quarters of the race fighting to get back on the lead lap after going off pace.

Dale's death was a one in a million thing... any one element happens differently, and he may have survived. The cars were safer than they ever were that day, but Dale's death was the blow to the gut that NASCAR needed to make them even safer still. It was so sad to loose Dale, but it was necessary for the future safety of the sport. Because nobody since has died in a Sprint Cup, Grand National, or Truck series machine.

6:20, when he is praising NASCAR about how safe the car is, and he says its the safest car in the world at that time. it's a black #3 GM Goodwrench car. he says its the safest car in the world at that time. and just a couple of hours later the driver of that car would die of a simple hit into the wall. thats both a sad kind of IRONIC and creepy.

Not necessarily; in the days after the press conference where Mike Helton announced Dale Earnhardt's death, Dr. Steve Bohannon (the doctor who appeared alongside Helton) would later say that even if Dale would have *any* type of head and neck restraints in his car, Dale still would have died from any injuries resulting from the force of the impact with the wall, or if Dale would have survived, he would have been a vegetable for the rest of his life.

@EricEbac22
@EricEbac22 6 жыл бұрын
I think the reason why they talk about safety after this crash is because everyone involved, with exception of Tony Stewart (rushed to the hospital with a shoulder injury and a slight concussion), was able to walk away, the reason being that it was all glancing blows, and none of the drivers involved took any serious hits that might have seriously injured somebody, again Tony being the lone exception, as when he came back onto the ground after being up in the air and tumbling about 6-7 times, the roll cage came down on him, though they did manage to get him out, though, as mentioned up front, for precautionary measures, Tony was rushed straight to Halifax Medical Center. On the flip side, when Dale Earnhardt hit the wall on the final lap, it was a sudden head-on impact, and when Dale hit the wall, his head flew forward into the steering wheel, causing Dale's spinal cord to sever from his brain, killing him instantly.

Just weird they kept talking about the safety of the cars the whole day even before the race then dale would get killed. They even had dale srs car as the cut away car. They kept saying the cared but look at drivers before that who died there death speeches. They just acted like it’s another death no big deal. Doesn’t matter. Then dale dies and they shit a brick and acted like they cared the whole time and then shit started to change. NASCAR should of paid attention to the other 60 something deaths that happened in nascar. Dales death could of been prevented years before if they cared but instead they would announce it then act like they don’t car doing the interview then move on.

Very funny! What you don't seem to grasp is that in the days after the crash, Steve Bohannon, the doctor who appeared alongside Mike Helton when Helton announced Earnhardt's death, would later say that even if Dale would have worn the head and neck restraints at the time of that last-lap crash, it wouldn't have done him any good, because any injuries Dale would have sustained would have still been fatal, or if he would have survived, he would have been left a vegetable the rest of his life. The only thing that would have helped Dale's cause would have been if, after the 2000 season, he would have retired from driving.
@tamezzodiac2862
@tamezzodiac2862 5 жыл бұрын
EricEbac22 he means if he would of gotten caught up in he big one. Or he means if he didn’t try to correct the car and crash. The reason he died was cause they stiffened the cars up from 2000 to 2001 to prevent flips from killing people. Ken Schrader has a crash in the 98 dules I’m pretty sure that was exactly like dales. But he survived cause they cars crunched more. In dales case the car didn’t crunch so it caused him to take the force of the impact since they stiffened them up. He even bent the steering wheel like dale. The only difference is that dale wore a open face helmet and ken wore a closed. Dale bent it with his face Schrader didn’t he bent it with his helmet. He would of survived if nascar didn’t stiffen up the cars. And if he wore a closed face helmet and a head and neck device he would of survived probably too. If they didn’t stiffen up the car he would be here right now.
