These 8 minutes can make grown men everywhere cry. Not only the crash itself but Darrell crying for Mikey, asking if Dale's okay, Buffy in tears, Mikey's first win in 463 tries, the crazy moves being made on track..... Just pure emotion all around. I don't want this taken the wrong way because it's terrible that we lost Dale, but it's almost fitting the man who gave us so many memories on the track had his final moments on the sports biggest stage in a series of events Hollywood couldn't script. Rest In Paradise Dale, 16 years later we still miss you greatly

In my opinion, I am very humbled by Darrell asking if Dale was ok at the end of the race. They fought each other time and time again back in the 70s and 80s but it made me respect him more knowing that he asked about Dale at the end of the race. And also, I dont think Dale could have been any happier knowing that his son and Michael was in front of him and he was helping them to the finish. I believe he died with a smile on his face

ClassyGuy1989 though Dale and Darrell became bitter rivals they actually started off as close friends since they were both trying 2 get their careers going. Then once Dale's success started and Darrell's did 2, then all those fights happened. Then things came full circle in 1998 when Darrell got 2 drive for Dale when Steve Park got hurt at Atlanta.

This is easily the most emotional ending to an American sporting event in the last 20 years. This half lap altered the sport's history forever. There were so many interwoven storylines going on at once that it was absolutely mind boggling. The shot of Darrell crying in happiness after his brother won the Daytona 500 and then looking over to turn 4 and saying "I hope Dale is okay.... He is isn't he?" is probably the most memorable moment in NASCAR

Slotten and people still say my favorite driver killed him, spotter and everything said Sterling was down low and still blocked, hit a wind pocket and went into sterling, Sterling was already there and Dale went down thinking he was cleared, sick of people saying Sterling killed him, he didn't move at all and all we see is Dale moving a little bit down into him

If Dale survived, he would have retired sometime around 2008-2011. He would've won the Daytona 500 at least one more time, would have made it to 8 or maybe more championships, and would have gotten to 100 wins. He and Jimmie Johnson would have had an amazing rivalry and Johnson wouldn't have 6 championships because Dale would have won at least one of those.
@jgonascar10 жыл бұрын
i dont think so i think he may would have retired by 2006 at max because the oldest person to get a win was Harry Gant at age 52 and Earnhardt was 49 turning 50 when he passed away and he wouldn't have made it to 100 wins because he would have needed to get 24 more and he would have gotten to that goal for example if he won 5 races a year from 2001-2005 and the last time Dale Earnhardt won more than 3 races in one season was 1995 plus by 2005 Earnhardt would be 54 and usually thats when drivers retire and Dale probably wouldn't win another championship because the last one he won was in 1994
@Noonecanknow87910 жыл бұрын
But he did nearly win it in 2000, so he could still compete for them.

While watching this race live I was suffering from a head cold. With 10 laps to go I had a severe coughing fit that herniated a disk in my lower back, or at least aggravated a mildly herniated disk. I missed the wreck live, and watched the replay in the emergency room. I was praying that Dale Sr. was ok, but alas we know how it ended. Dale Earnhardt's passing won't be forgotten for a very long time. It's sad that Mikey's first win at Daytona had to be so bittersweet.

The only time I would ever wanted to see a race end under caution, if a car spins with 2 to go and it's just a spin down the backstretch we still have Dale Earnhardt, I hated seeing races end under caution, but damnit if only a lapped car could have blown an engine and laid oil down on the track... But thank god for the safety measures taken to improve the drivers safety, no doubt in my mind that we would have lost a driver in the big one at Talladega in the fall this year if not for the safety.

First of all, people didn't realize the severity of the impact. Secondly, nobody had any information. Well they already had the Hans Device by the time of this wreck. The only driver, beside Dale Sr., that was using the old helmet was Mr. E. I heard they tried demanding it for this race, but Dale was too much of a "good ole boy" I can't blame NASCAR for letting him use the old helmet because I don't think they'd have this as a result, and if they did demand it, they knew Dale would be crying about it and the fans would follow him, but Dales death did make a lot of safety advancements to the car.
