Update...In this video, I accidently said it is a "4.9L", I meant to say a "5.4L". I was filming a video about working on my old truck that day (which is a 4.9L) and I guess that number just got stuck in my head. So I apologize, it is a 5.4L!!! Thanks.......
And thanks for each and every comment for helping me highlight my mistake...haha!!! Just kidding, thanks for pointing it out, good luck with your vehicle!!!
This video will show you how to perform a 'reverse' heater core flush on a 2001 Ford Expedition. This reverse flush should be the same for all Ford Expedition models around this same year.

I liked the video. you showed to fill the heater core up with antifreeze to prevent bubbles and that's a good touch. thank you.

After you flush the heater core it's really important to get all the air out of the system since the heater core sits so high up any air will find it''s way there and you will still have low heat . There are a lot of youtube videos that show how to do this .

The hose clips can be removed by slipping an open end wrench over them to push them down. Typically a 17mm works like a charm. 😁

You can get a small kit at autozone for a couple of bucks. It has a bunch of various sizes.

If heater is on seems like the return line should be a little cooler since heat is being transferred to cabin if they are both same temp not much transfer taking place.

my truck is fairly new and the inlet temp to the heater core is 164 and the outlet temp is 150 and I have good hot heat so there is a 14 degree difference.

Maaan both of my heater hoses are cold I did a flush my door actuator is good it’s I can’t seem to find the reason why my hoses won’t get warm after the engine warms up. I was thinking maybe a water pump or thermostat

Did you fill the core back up with antifreeze? If an air pocket builds up in the core it will restrict the flow.

I have a 2000 ford expedition, Yours says 5W-20 oil mine is 5W-30.... WHY???
@SanchoGracie
@SanchoGracie 2 жыл бұрын
The 5.4L 3 valve motors really don't like the thicker oil. When I bought my 1st Expie brand new in 2001, using 5w30 would have voided the warranty. I'd double check your manual for required oil viscosity.

jack surca haha...im not really sure about that. How do you intend to cap them off and what is the reasoning? Leaky heater core?

BryzGarage ..yes the heater core is leaking.

jack surca yes just loop the lines together to still allow the water to pass by and you will be fine.

So, question for the you, why couldn't you take the main hose off the block and cut/split the return line and flush that way? Seems to me that you could clamp off the rear lines to isolate, flush the front then clamp off the front and then flush the rear. Repair the cut return with a brass splice and couple of hose clamps. Thanks in advance

Hello Steve, you absolutely could do that. I changed my hoses so I removed mine that's why I did it this way.

@@bryzgarage5028 The original heater hose on the right has a flow restrictor built into it at the end where it attaches to the engine block.

Is there a concern with all the crud still in the engine returning to the heater core?

+Nolz1303 the reason I said 4.9l is because the old truck I'm working on has that motor. I must have got it mixed up when I was filming the video.

I need to back flush my 2001 f150 due to low heat. I noticed on this vehicle it has t fittings on both heater hoses. What do the hoses coming off the t fittings going to? My truck with same motor does not have those t fittings. Other than that looks the same. I am thinking about putting inline t fittings in so I do not have to mess with connection s on fire wall.

Brian Durham the tee fittings on the Expedition go to the rear heater core in the back of the vehicle.

Observe that this "4.9 liter" has a shroud over its throttle body which reads "5.4L".
