I wanted to try my hand at making a video and I thought I might as well make something useful. It should be obvious from the video that I'm not a mechanic.

Thanks your video showed me the thing that was giving me a problem,the one small spring on the right side holding the adjuster plate. I was trying to put it on after I had the assembly on the car and it would just keep popping off. Thanks again. Good job on video

The e brake cable is best re inserted in the rear pad before putting it together with the rest of the assembly.

174 lbs? On a 3' breaker bar? That's 522 ft-lbs of torque. The torque spec is 173 ft-lbs haha, use a 1foot bar on it and you're bang on! Lol thought that was kinda funny. Good runthrough though!

Gotta warn people of a "trap" with this car - Parts places will give you the WRONG wheel cylinder if you do not check! Oddly enough Ford specs a DIFFERENT one for automatic and manual trans. A garage in Maine put a manual one in for my son (while going to school there) when I took the wheel off it was a gooey mess what with the blown cylinder. Put a new one of the same type in and it BLEW on the test ride! Did some research and found out the one for auto trans has a longer travel - physically about a half inch longer. you can tell by the ends of the pistons - Manual is rounded ends, Auto trans is a flat more pronounced piston.

Thank you for posting this video Jack - your guidance has been extremely helpful. Could you please tell me the size of the big nut in the center? Thank you in advance :)

Jack Schmidt No problem! I figured it out-it takes a 30mm socket :)

Hi Jack, good video. I haven't worked on a car with this type of adjuster before. I'm thinking I need to pull the drums again and make sure everything is positioned correctly. Pedal isn't feeling as it should.

If you're going to check out the adjuster, I suggest you remove the drum by removing the four bolts on the back side of the plate instead of taking off the big nut in front. The big nuts are supposed to be replaced after four installations, and, anyway, removing and replacing the four bolts is easier. Also, if you think maybe the brake lines could use bleeding, you could try that first because it's probably easier.

Replaced shoes, can't get drum to go back on (using existing drum). Released tension, removed groove on drum. Was hoping to see a trick.
@jackschmidt69842 жыл бұрын
Those are the two things I would have suggested to check. Since those are OK I can only guess that parts didn't get assembled correctly, causing the shoes to be farther apart than they should. It is a tricky assembly. Sorry I can't help.

OMG, you actually think using your own body weight provides accurate torque! You're forgetting that torque leverage plays into it based on the length of the lever.
