In 2001, our first International Flameworking Conference, featured and celebrated the career of Robert Mickelsen whose work has inspired a new wave of creative people at the torch.
Mickelsen's signature art work is influenced by organic forms from the plant kingdom, non-referential free standing work and at times folk-art inspired sculpture. Occasionally, his inspirations come from reinterpreting historic glass-working techniques a contemporary vision. The result reflects an edgy contemporary attitude that permeates his objects.
Robert is a natural teacher who generously shares techniques with younger artists.
I am proud to present a video of Robert Mickelsen's demonstration ... at our first conference.

Historic. Like when Dank K, cam and Bob made the first water bubbler together that first day with something other than the National hand torch.

Interesting demo, TY! We could really use more community & private schools on the west cost that teach glass work, as well as factories that create it! Long ago, we bad several glass factories in S. CA, but sadly not any more. Thankfully people are starting to realize how damaging plastics are to the envi, and are starting to go back to glass, so hopefully the Arts that go with it will return here as well!?! Good demo!

I also like to work standing up. I find that my mind is in a more ready state when I'm standing. Also what he said about the wrist for me is 100% true

How do I join you guys? I have been flame working since 2005 and all of the artists In the intro is people I have looked up to ever since. I feel I have gotten to the point to allow the glass to do what I would like even when it comes to picky color. Feel free to contact me anytime. From manufacturing color to making something worth a damn. I am here to help Thank you

To all who give a shit to read. Blowing glass is like playing a piano, lead with your natural flow. Do not force your way to make what you want. Let it flow
