This vid has become a classic in TrailBlazer repair vids - thanks very much. My AC works sometimes but mostly not. The Compressor was replaced once already about 100K miles back but someone is telling me my AC Compressor must be failing. Maybe the serpentine belt will freeze up again and break? Last time I was told it was just the tension automatic adjustor - so they replaced that. haha. Thanks again.

Awesome video. I have the Trailblazer. I had a noise that disappeared with the belt off so I been going through all the accessories. The fan clutch was shot, so I replaced the water pump as well. The alternator was sketchy so i changed that. The tensioner pulley was making noise so I changed that. The P/S pump is quiet. So I checked the a/c and the pulley is loose. Thanks for the assist. Next is a new exhaust. 220,000+ and runs like she should.

good video but the problem is when the compressor takes a dump, it usually sends a bunch of trash into the condenser. if you dont replace the condenser, it wont cool down the refrigerant because it is clogged up, which equals all that work and money spent and it still wont cool the cabin very well. word of advice from someone with an automotive 609 a/c license, every single time your compressor takes a dump, replace the accumulator / drier, orifice tube / expansion valve and condenser. do not ignore this advice or youre more than likely not going to get the cold air you want.
@RustBeltAuto
@RustBeltAuto 5 жыл бұрын
There is a cost factor involved most are not willing to pay, so I didn't do it. All that aside, it blows cold as new the way it is, and it's still working. If they complained about air quality, I would have sold more parts. I am also MACS certified, and do realize the consensus is to sell as many parts as possible to make the most amount of money while telling people if they do not do it, it will not work. Essentially it is less than a half truth. The truth is, people don"t know if there is "trash" in the system, or how much, or how much moisture is in the system. The consensus disregards how the components in the system have failed. It's a guess, so the consensus is to just do it, just in case, and makes people spend gob loads of money, or else. Making what you are taught borderline illegal. Truth is, the system required a compressor, and may require one again. I could sell more if the air quality was not good enough. A good way to look for trash in the system is to take out the fixed orifice tube, and see what comes with it. When I retrofitted 134a, a long time ago, we used a cleaner, and pressure pot to clean the system, replaced the drier, and FOT. It is a better idea than replacing a few parts that people do now days. There is always going to be residual particles of metal (mostly aluminum) in the lines, and other parts you do not replace that is mixed with the left over oil, and stuck to the inside of the parts. Essentially, I believe that what just about everyone does with an A/C repair is a dirty hack job full of half truths. I try to be honest, and tell the victim what the failed part is, what the standard recommendation is, give them the good, better, best scenario, and let them be the deciding factor. I hope I do not need to explain what I do with A/C systems to you guru's anymore. It is quite mundane to me. Thanks for watching. I hope something i did helped you in some way. Sorry for the long post.

There should be a yellow sticker somewhere in the engine compartment that will tell you how much goes in the system. Drain out old compressor, and add the same amount plus 3 ounces if you had a large leak, and an empty system. Or just the amount drained plus about an ounce if it was full of refrigerant and no oil leaked out. There should be oil in the new compressor too. 3 ounces extra is safe almost always.
