2002 Alfa Romeo 166 Review - Buy it and Try it - And visit to Crocodiles Of The World, Cotswolds

I was supposed to get a train to Guildford but Matt kindly upgraded me to First Class... and by that I mean he bought an Alfa Romeo and asked me to deliver it. The car was in Bourton On The Water in the Cotwolds, a one-and-a-bit-hours drive to Matt. Here's the adventure, featuring a walk around video, a whole lot of crocodiles, some dead rats, one break down, one overheating Alfa Romeo, a Topaz Blue BMW E39 530D and a V10 Volkswagen Phaeton. Oh, I also review the Alfa Romeo 166 at some point, too.

Alfa knows how to make a beautiful interior. Even tiny little things like the additional padded armrest on the doors.

Im lucky enough to have bought a 3.0 v6 at the start of the year for just £1000 with a very short MOT. A little bit of soldering and the car went straight through the test and now i have a car i am truly in love with! Alot quicker than i expected too! And those MOMO seats 😘

@@universalcitizen7544 2002 3.0 v6 Sportronic in Black. One of only 2 black Sportronic 3.0 left on the road in UK apparently. I'm in love with it! It's due an MOT next month so I need to get stuck into her a bit over the next few weeks

@@universalcitizen7544 oh yeah 183,000 miles on it but the smoothest engine and gearbox I've ever owned! The car has been lucky to have a history of (mostly) great owners

@@RollinRoadsUK thanks for the info mate. I'm asking coz i saw one listed also 2002 V6 3.0 but 6-speed manual, in silver, with 100,000 km on the clock. Asking price is $2000. Going to see it with fingers crossed. Not in the UK of course. But regardless of it's condition, I'm mostly worried about parts availability (worldwide) if i wanna maintain it perfectly

Having owned both - a 166 TSpark and, later, an E39 540i M Sport - I loved them both. Both were good looking but whereas the BMW was handsome (esp M Sport trim) the Alfa was truly gorgeous, much better looking in the flesh than any photo. Both were excellent handling cars though I doubt the front wheel drive Alfa could have handled 282 bhp like the rear wheel drive BMW did. Neither were faultless but the BMW issues tended to be small (except for the auto gearbox reverse clutch rebuild). I kept both cars for similar amounts of time - about 5 years - and enjoyed both.

You can release the fuel flap from inside the boot when the electric release fails 😁

Lovely day out it seems. Enjoying a pretty alfa to begin with, seeing some snappers, getting jumped by a helpful man, getting steamy with the sultry Italian, then knowing you'll get home with the grunty kraut. Good effort that man.

Great vid! I had one these (same colour and interior) years ago when they were still in the Alfa showrooms. The horrendous depreciation made it just about affordable for a skint graduate. Regret selling it - they’ve aged really well!

Beautiful car and fantastic interior. Breaking down at a crocodile zoo is pretty cool too! A good day out all in all.

I live in Portugal and always take a bag with jump leads ,always when I go to pick up cars,I buy foreign cars that have finished inspection in the country of origin,If the owner says the battery is dead I chuck a battery in a rucksack on the bus or train

I like the buzz of picking up cars Van's and trucks I've never driven bought without looking first that have been stood maybe for ages,I get to travel to loads of different places you wouldn't go otherwise and drive random stuff
