Great video man. Straight forward and helpful. For people who like to test parts before actually installing them to see if they work, there’s a button between two parts that hold the switch in place. You plug in the harness to the switch then you can take a screw driver or something hard and press down on that button to test it. Have someone stand behind the truck and tell you if your lights come in. You don’t have to press the break pedal just the button. You pressing on the switch is simulating pressing the breaks. Prices vary from $10-$35 for this part so when going with something cheaper it’s always good to make sure it works. If you’re trying to fix cruise control with this, you will obviously have to properly install it. But it’s always good to check to see if it works. That clip is a pain in the ass.

I’m not a “car guy”, but I was out of town with my family, so it was either find an open mechanic in a town I don’t know on a Sunday or try to fix it myself. Thanks to your video and $17 at Auto Zone I had brake lights for the drive home. Thank you! I owe you a beverage of your choice!

Bro you're a lifesaver I had a mobile mechanic change my brake booster now my front brakes won't bleed because he didn't bench bleed the master cylinder and on top of all that it wouldn't go into gear because he didn't put that sensor back on the right way he had it all loose just basically hanging with the push rod not even between it.

This video really did help me out a lot . Thanks .my problem is still not fixed . I have no brake lights but running lights work hazard lights , blinker works but no brake at all . I replaced the stop light switch . Checked all fuses and now I’m not getting power to the stop light fuse under the hood . Any suggestions, I will try it . ??? Oh and my taillights are halo led

Thnks for the video..also if your fuses are ok and the stop lights still not turn on on tbe switch lever turn the big screw conect it to the buster like two turns so. Its going to get the metal closer to the swith that it help to make turn on the lights

I gotta 2002 avalanche. Half the time when I park the brake lights will stay on. When it happens I'll have to lift the pedal with my foot before I get out or just with hand. Is there an adjustment at the rod to extend it and raise the pedal or is this because of the switch being faulty? Hydro boost worn? Pinpoint why it's sticking. Almost drained the battery twice when I forgot the pedal check. 😅. Thank you for your time and this accurate and clear video.

To remove the clip it helps to push it upward first to release the clip from the rod it's on then use the screwdriver to pry the clip away from the switch.

The switch is easily opened. Open the switch and clean the contacts. The one that will be on the end and closed is the one that causes the problem. Just fixed mine that way.

Do you know if that means that the fuses are good and that it must be the switch? Before seeing your video I inspected and saw the switch and wires which seem to be all good and in tact.

I have a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer. I bought a new switch (Duralast Part # DR4106) I don't see any moving parts on the switch. I looked inside the switch where it slide onto the brake pedal lever. I don't see any moving parts, just a slightly raised surface that feels pretty rigid. Can you explain how this switch works or even disassemble it so we can see what's inside and how it works.

I had a wreck last week nothing happened to the truck other than a spun around and went into the ditch however I lost my tail lights and I'm currently trying to trace down where to find power and as far as I can tell I'm not getting power at my stop fuse.

My brake switch is good and so are the fuses. Any other ideas on what it might be?

Thanks for the info! I've read that a malfunctioning brake switch can also cause problems with the cruise control. I have an 02 silverado Z71 and I'm trying to determine if the problem is the brake switch shorting and preventing the cruise from working or the cruise control buttons on the turn signal lever. All fuses are good.

I checked the white wire, it is as constant as the orange wire at 12v. None of my brake lights work, nor does ABS, or the cruise control. Could this cause all of those issues? The truck drives, and brakes fine. I am hoping it is just the light switch
