How did you know it was the relay and not the fuel pump?

Yes i think so

12v only comes on for 4 sec to primer the fuel pressure and stays on full time when engine is runing.

Any 4 pin relay will work as long as u know the function of every pin. Cars are 12v systems

Was about a half a day from sending it to the shop to get looked at period was not getting any power to the fuel pump... check the fuse on a day could be with relay.. tried the setup fired right up thank you. Wife had ran out of diesel. I'm assuming she kept trying to start it and the process got relay hot burnt out

@@ycali609 it should be when you turn the engine over it should get a signal think it was negative but you should always check for both.

First and foremost...in diagnosing an electrical issue vs a fuel issue on any diesel... There are a few things you need to know... If a diesel motor will fire off of a can of starting fluid then you know you have a fuel issue. If it won't fire at all then you have an electrical issue. (***take precautions for grid heaters/glow plugs so you don't start a fire or smoke a motor***) ......Next, I have a special electrical tool called a Power Probe 3. I was able to go down to the frame rail where the pump sits and check and test the wiring to the fuel pump for power and ground. I was also able to check the pump operation with that tool....it basically is like having your own on/off switch in your hand. That's why I knew if I was able to energize the pump on and the truck would fire, but would not stay running, I had a problem with the wiring to the pump. I then went back to my electrical diagram and found that the fuel pump relay on that specific year of truck is built into the fuse box. When you check the fuse on that 20 amp spot one side is completely dead and the other side has power running through it.

Your first step is always to check if you have power and Ground going to the fuel pump. In this fix there was no power [12v] going to the pump check at the closest point to the pump. And after and before inertia switch.

Original relay is build into the fuse box used external relay to bypass the integrated relay.

You are wrong Sir. Fuel pump is still in gas tank injection pump on the engine. But again I hate Diesel junk.
