My son's 2002 Clio had a flat battery when I checked it last week, after charging it displayed the red light of death - NOTE NOT THE FLASHING RED LIGHT OF DEATH
I fixed it but have no idea how, see the video! It might help you or it might not

This is brilliant. I didn't even take the relays out -- just put the key in, turned it to the ignition position and did the front and rear wipers and it then started on the button. Been fiddling about with it all day prior to seeing this video.

You have just saved my day! Been struggling with this for a couple days now after my battery went dead. Of course it worked to use the wipers. I bet it all makes sense to the French 😂

On mine I just removed all the relays and put it back in, and the motor started. Big Thanks from Portugal.

fixed my step dads car too. ty so much! turned wipers on and it started. New it wasn't the battery as that's brand new

Same model car, had exactly the same problem, cranking 3 times then cutting out, tried to bump start it and tried to start multiple times, gave up and Googled it and found your video, got to the bit where you were testing wipers and windows and checked all mine then it started! 😂 thank you

Man!!! It worked for me too! Turned on the wipers, and the red dot disappeared. What the hell??!! Anyway, thank for the tip! 😃

My car didn't start exactly the same way after I pulled out my obd reader. And after seeing your film. I only did a pull screen washer handle. The wiper reacted and the car started as usual.... Mind blown🤯..😄

This week my wife her Clio got the same problem. I looks like it's a can-bus problem. Thats why your problem was solved after use some of the instruments. My solution was to disconnect the airbag computer(this is one end of the can network, the other is the ECU). After i started the car i reconnect the computer and all the problems are solved.

This happened to my clio today. Ran about in it all day I've never had a problem starting it before went to tesco for petrol came back out and my car had died gad to be pushed iff the fore court by another customer.got home wouldnt start again messed around with wipers windows etc too and reset rhe radio vola restarted again like normal... totaly weird. I'll still get the battery checked see if theres a battery problem.. Thanks for this video its gave me some insights...👍👍

Ho avuto lo stesso problema con clio del 2002 , non ci credevo ma ho provato lo stesso… dopo che avevo già cambiato il sensore di posizione dell’albero a camme, controllato candele e fusibili non voleva sapere di partire… disperato ho provato l’impossibile, quello che hai fatto tu m, e dopo avere acceso le luci e provato i tergicristalli la macchina magicamente si è accesa e va ancora… É davvero incredibile ma ha funzionato… grazie da Italia 🎉❤❤😅😅

You saved me here mate! I unlocked the passenger side, turn on the wipers and boom, it works, that is after trying to start it for 10 minutes normally.... Must be some electrical misconfiguration, but thank you 1 million times over!! I was about to go to a very important client meeting to close my first huge retainer. Cold weather, didn't turn on, come back upstairs to do some research and the idea of some electrical misconfiguration was correct, I managed to get to the meeting on time and close my first £2k retainer!! If there's a way I can help you please reply to this comment, would love to show some appreciation as you've literally opened up my agency's initial door for success for me. Thank you so much man

delighted it worked for you. This car has been out of use for 3 months and was messing me about again today, wound the windows down and back up and it fired straight up. Look at my more recent videos and I do have a paypal.me link to support the channel or just plain buy me a beer. Cheers

It's corroded connections in the fuse box behind the passengers headlamp Usually the black ones, may need cleaning of the terminals or replace if too corroded

Same problem with my 182. The wiper / window trick did remove the solid red light on mine too! But it still won’t start. Not even a crank, just click in the glove box area. I suspect dodgy wiring / fuse / relay or the UCH module. Emailed the person in your wiper vid. Thanks

There is a starter relay in the box in the engine bay also, maybe worth double checking that before committing the UCH

I had the exact same problem and this was the first video on KZfaq that i found with the identical symptoms. Mine turned out to be caused by a bad connection on a 30 amp fuse located in the same area as this man is working on in relation to the three black identical relays. If you look closey at this video, at 53 seconds, when he is in the area just behind the passengers headlamp, you will see two black and red cables twisted together and at the top of the twist, as they start to seperate, immediately to the right is a solitary fuse, it's a green 30 amp, mine had actually blown. Possibly caused by myself replacing some corroded terminals on the black relays, may have shorted one and blown the fuse. Replaced the fuse, solid light went out and car started straight away. Not too proud to say, i make mistakes. Hope this helps someone else

I don't know why but this help in my car. I only turn stering wheel to the left and then I try start engine. And it works!

I will try that next time I have the issue on this car. It always seems to do it when left standing for a week or so. There is something that clicks away behind the glove box but for now the bodge gets it started every time.

You’ll see a white 25 amp fuse in the fuse box, on ignition position 1 listen under the bonnet and if it’s faulty or not making a connection it will make a buzzing sound. Turn ignition off again and remove the fuse. Most likely it’s got dirty from muck. Clean up the terminals on the fuse or replace and clean the fuse part too. I did this and it cured the issue.

You had an easy exit, mine ended up with UCH refurb - see here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mK1hptB10rarZZc.html What gibbon thought that a uch would be a good substitute for a couple of relays? probably the same chap who found a transistor to be a good replacement for a glass valve 🤦‍♂️😂

What's that buzzing sound right after cranking? I have a the same Clio, and it does this sound for a year now... 20yrs old by now, I know, but only 90k kms under the hood, so it's perfect in the city... won't sell it for 1000 euros 😂 Anyway, yes its those cables, clean pull them out, clean the connections and it will work again, I found it out the hard way, they wanted to change the whoe box + reprogramming the key for 800 euros last year. It's from damp inside the car. If it's closed, the air gets very humid and that happens (after some years). So you are right, search for that box, it's on the very left corner under / behind the rim of the gray dashboard plastic. Hell of work getting it out, but once cleaned inside connections, and outside connectios, put the together, I put 10 silica bags into the box and used WD40 + silicon spray after cleaning the cable connectors (after the were plugged back), still works fine, took me half a sunday, but I saved almost 1000 euros 😊

Had the same problem last year and it disappeared after I followed your instructions from your video. Unfortunatly the same issue has resurfaced recently. This time my car would would not start, tried turning wipers on and off, windows up and down, pressure on key, nothing worked. Got out of the car, pushed the front of the car from the bonnet several times still did not work. One last thing before I gave up, firm taps to the battery and the car started working. Do you think parking the passenger side on top of a curb may contribute towards the problem?

I have no idea, next time I might try jump starting it from another running car to see if 13.7v running through its' loom prompts it back to life. French electrics in an English climate at the end of the day though

I get this on my 2002 clio, often I get the flashing light when I turn to position 1 and no crank, sometimes it will crank then stop and just crank for 5 mins then start. You can bypass the immobiliser by turning key to position 1, hold central locking button turn off and back to position 1 - all while holding that button - that stops the light blinking, goes solid and starts. It does it regular but ALWAYS starts, good little cars but temperamental just like the French!

I bought a Clio 2004 a month ago and since then it has happened to me three times that the immobilizer indicator does not go out. The first time I got scared, I thought it was a starter but it didn’t make sense to me because it fires at half key. Somehow from 5-6 attempts it worked. Then I read on a forum that turning the steering wheel turns off the indicator. The second time I tried the steering wheel and succeeded, and the third time I didn't want to do that trick, but I saw it after a few more attempts with the key. Next time I will try the wipers, so if it turns off, then there is definitely a bad connection behind the wheel. Otherwise, it is not up to the key because the same thing happens with the spare. I also watched your video about the UHC repair, but it is not clear to me whether it was repaired because of the immobilizer or because of the signaling.

The immobiliser fault remained and the indicator fault joined the party. The UCH repair resolved both issues for me.

@@churchhouseclassics Thanks for the info, I'm still gathering experiences wherever I can but it's probably the last and best option. Although for some reason it makes sense to me that the problem is the poor quality of the wires in the steering column. Renault is known for thin wires that rot over time. Thanks for the reply.👍

Check the crankshaft position sensor. If it's dirty the car won't start. Clean it with alcohol or replace it, it's cheap

Had same problem, I disconnected the battery and I connected the red and black cable together for an hour, then reconnect the battery and all problem was cleared. Like me.

You should check the crankshaft position sensor. I cleaned mine with alcohol and it worked

In this case it was 100% a UCH / BECM issue. 👍

I've had 3 clios. All clio mk2. The common thing that fails us the ignition key ring reader, failed on 2 of mine. Also the uch or bcm circuit board behind the glove box troubles, because the relays are soldered to the damn board. You'll need to get one from a scrapyard, then swap out the 93c66 chip, which contains your car identification. A TV repair guy could solder it for you. Also check your earthing wires around your engine bay, those cause intermittent immobilizer problems. Indicator stalk also gives issues where it just indicates in one direction even though the stalk is in neutral position. Thanks

MrMoss786 do you know if the uch or bcm are behind the glove box on cars that have the steer wheel on the left side? i have troubles with the immobilizer in the winter rain, also water drains inside the car

@@sergioneto9964 I'm not sure but it's easy to spot if you get under there. My guess is your drainage holes are blocked just under the windscreen where your wiper motor is. I think the uch will also be on the left side irrespective which side your glove box is, I could be wrong.

I drove my car on sunday, and monday morning it did not start. What could be the issue? The car wants to start, it cranks forever if you twist the key, but it wont turn on. The red light in the middle goes off right away and everything else works.

Difficult to offer any advise without knowing more, does it crank and then stop cranking unexpectedly? if so UCH module is likely at fault. Get advise from the Clio forums, they are pretty helpful

Has nothing to do with the wipers. The light was already out when you turned them on. Watch the video. The light goes out JUST before he touches the wipers. Either a fake video, or something else caused the car to start.

It's dodgy earthing. French just can't get anything done right. The earth's rot. Check them all and repair or replacement.
