The reason Junior was more respectful and careful had more to do with what happened with his brother Kerry the previous fall. Kerry raced Blaise Alexander hard in the ARCA race and resulted in a crash on the frontstretch, killing Alexander, while Kerry won. I wondered if Junior remembered that being fresh. Larry noted where Junior overdrove the final laps.

He needed a little dad in him on that last lap actually. ... lol

To think only two rookies won the All Star Race, Dale Earnhardt Jr in 2000, and Ryan Newman just two years later.

@RNCoyote Jr. could have passed him without wrecking Ryan; you use the air to get him loose. See the 2004 finish.

Junior was gonna spin him , Newman just had great car control.

but if the rolls were reversed and newman wrecked jr all the fans would be crying about it
