All gauges NOT working/moving. Backlighting works fine. I was able to fix this issue. How? Watch this vid to find out. HINT: Check your fuses first! They are kind of confusing to find on this truck but I'll show you where to look plus you'll see some other details that I learned along the way that may be useful if your fuses are good but you are still having issues. I took the long road to an easy solution but maybe you can learn from my mistakes!!!

If I get to heaven (jury is out) before you, and I think at my age I will, there will be a cold beer waiting for you with my huge thank you for this. I get to save big by not needing to take it to the shop and as an added bonus I get to tell my wife I fixed it. You will eventually get the credit though. Thanks again.

Ha! The best comment I've ever had. I'll take you up on that. Coors Light is fine for me! Glad I can help. DIY vids on youtube have saved me thousands$ over the years so I really enjoy putting stuff on here that might be useful for others. Oh - and please do take the credit from your wife! I do the same...

Thank you for the tips on the separate power and wire colors. My problem turned out to be a mouse chewed my orange wire but it gave me a wire color to chase from there once I knew I didn't have power to the orange wire! Thanks

Thank you great vidio but witch pins do I use to power the Cluster on the bench? you mentioned the Black and white as Ground and the orange as positive 12v is that correct? or I am missing somthig
@paulhaines5755
@paulhaines5755 Жыл бұрын
I have not bench tested one of these things so I don't know the proper way to do it so do it at your own risk. Here's what I do know per my testing that i did: The black/white wire is ground. The orange wire is 12V (present at all times when everything is working properly regardless of vehicle running or not) and the pink wire is 12V; present when the ignition is turned on/vehicle is running.

Just saw your video. I've got a 04 Suburban my cluster just stopped working. Lights work, I checked the fuse you pointed out and it is fine and getting power. But the whole cluster is still not working. What should I do?
@paulhaines5755
@paulhaines5755 6 ай бұрын
I'd pull the cluster and verify power to the pink and brown wires on the cluster harness as shown in this vid. If you have power, reseat the connector and see if you have any luck with it working. If not, I'd suggest sending it to someone that can repair the cluster as it's likely an internal issue.

I’m having same issue. I doubt a mouse chewed my orange power wire but I don’t have a way to check it. I’m assuming it could be the cluster.

ive got continuity with my orange wire and ground. what does that mean is it normal for power to have continuity with ground?
@paulhaines5755
@paulhaines5755 Жыл бұрын
I don't think that's normal. It's likely your orange wire is damaged and grounded somewhere in the vehicle. What exactly are you referring to as "continuity" on your meter?

Going through this now! I’m only getting 5 volts to orange wire! Fuse isn’t blown so idk I just stole power from radio for now
@paulhaines5755
@paulhaines5755 Жыл бұрын
You might try a new fuse. It is possible for a fuse to cause higher resistance = lower voltage but I'm not sure if that is a common thing in a small automotive fuse but it's an easy thing to try. Otherwise I can't really offer any advice as I've not had that problem.
@paulhaines5755
@paulhaines5755 Жыл бұрын
I think I'm wrong in what I said previously; I believe a compromised fuse could restrict current therefore causing a voltage drop "V=IR" Same goes for a damaged wire that is restricting current.

Awesome video, but it's not my fuse...☹️ My truck gauges come on sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. Where else does that cable lead to?
@paulhaines5755
@paulhaines5755 Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Not sure about wiring to and from. If I was you, I'd first check the connector to the cluster. Because your problem is intermittent, it will be hard for you to know if it's a power supply issue. I would remove the cluster and jiggle the connector that goes in to the back of it a little and see if the gauges either start working or quit working when you do that. If so, you should consider removing the cluster, take it apart and re-solder the pins that go thru the circuit board to the connector. If you are not comfortable with that, there are plenty of people out there on e-bay that repair these for about $70. They are notoriously flaky gauge clusters. It could be another issue but what I recommend for you to do is pretty easy and low risk even if you aren't a great solder guru.

Hmmm - hard to say. I would first try to unplug and re-seat the connector in the back of the cluster and see if that does anything. Beyond that, you should verify power coming to the wires as shown in my vid. If you have power like you should, you might consider sending your cluster out for repair as it's likely internal to the cluster at that point. Thanks, Paul
@paulhaines5755
@paulhaines5755 9 ай бұрын
One other thing to consider if you have power present to the wires but no function... Sometimes the pins in the connector "go bad" and get kinda deformed and don't make a good connection. If you wiggle the connector and you get it to function you might have pins that aren't making the connection or the pins that go thru the circuit board in the cluster for the connector might need to be resoldered.

I washed the video because the same thing happened to me three plus Fridays ago going for pizza. The most reliable vehicle I've had in 6 years died 100 yards from its parking spot lost my gauges, lost my prindle lost communication to the TCM lost communication to the ECM and obviously I lost gauges washed a couple billion other videos. For some reason. My Allison transmissions is about 6 quarts to full. I'm going to drain that tomorrow. Don't know why it's not discolored. It's pink like it should be now. I'll be checking the fuses you'd recommended. It has nothing to do that. I saw on your video with fuse ECMB under the hood and nothing to do with ignition zero at the end of the dashboard but I'm going to be checking a screenshots. I took off your videos for the dash cluster cuz the dash is out other than the back lighting
