I wish I saw this three years ago. I purchased a new/used stator assy for a KE100. The exciting coil wasn't working on the bike I bought. I considered winding a coil but discarded the body. A couple of years back I purchased a new old stock coil (21049-1004). Just can't seem to get a proper resistance reading on the coil.

Thanks this relates to my envoy and I’ll bet that my testing leads me to the cluster as well. Several stepper motors are wonky and somethings pulling current awfully fast. Sometimes the draw goes fast and other times slower. Other things seem to come and go like when I give the cluster a few knocks the radio might go out or blowers don’t work and sometimes the wonky steppers start stepping.

Dumb question but does the welch plug and low speed pin control air, or gas? I have a 1992 9.9 evinrude. The carb doesnt have a welch plug, but the carb top cover sits over a gasket. Kind of the same look when i pull the cover off and gasket off, theres 3 orifices at the end of where the pin sits under it. I took the pin out and it smelled like gas. If its supposed to regulate air, i might have a leak. I can barely start my motor but once it does itll run and idle on full throttle only. Once i turn throttle down it dies, and then i cant restart it. I've cleaned carb and rebuilt it etc many times but now ive found this video, im gonna clean those orifices and take pin out and clean that too and replace the gasket. Wish me luck, thanks for your video!

The low speed screw controls gas. The tighter it is in the less gas, the further out = more gas. You should try adjusting this screw so that it is about 1 1/2 turns out from being lightly seated/closed. Don't crank on it too hard, just a light seat before beginning the 1 1/2 turns out operation. 1 1/2 is usually a good start for almost all engines that I've worked on. I'm sorry but I don't know much about your particular engine so can't give too much advice really.

This prob seems obvious but if you haven't changed the plug you should do that. I've had all sorts of issues with 2-strokes and fouled plugs. A new plug makes a world of difference sometimes. Could be a fuel delivery issue as well. If you have a spare tank and hose or you can borrow one try swapping that. A small leak in the hose/bulb really screws things up. I had one that would barely run and super hard to start. The bulb on the fuel line from the tank had a leak.

A bad exhaust bellow in a gen 1 or 2 will not allow water in the boat. The exhaust bellow carries engine exhaust and cooling water from the transom to the out drive to lake water. A bad u-joint bellow or a bad shift cable bellow will allow lake water into the boat.

You seem like you know a thing or 2 about these. Before I even go to the trouble of checking all this can you tell me if my ski is burnt up?! I say that because you mentioned if you don't see any pee.... just stop. Well I was driving and not looking back for any of that, came to a slow down in a cove and saw the "hi temp" warning on the display and it died. Tried several times after that to crank, but it would start to crank and then like there wasn't enough energy to actually turn over anything. Not sure how the battery or anything would be too weak since it started 15 min before this with no issue. So do you think I've burnt something up and forget it or anything for me to try? 2002 gtx rfi. Thank you!

Bummer! It's hard to say. Don't lose hope. I'm pretty sure these machines should go into limp mode when the overheat so it's hard to kill the engine as they don't allow you to rev up much when hot and you'd know before you ran it too long. Both of mine do but they are not the same model as yours. The difficulty in turning over the engine is a little worry-some. though. First I'd get it on a trailer and try to start it with hose on it and fully charged battery. If it still turns over hard, I'd go underneath and check for obstructions on the drive/impellor. These machines are direct drive which means the starter has to turn over the drive shaft to the impellor as well as the engine all at the same time. An obstruction could cause hard starting and/or overheating. Let me know what you see.

The small hose going to the exhaust from the tell-tale hose route might only have a small amount of water going into the exhaust. Depends on RPM"s. Some water goes to tell-tale, some goes to exhaust in the Y prior to the exhaust. The larger hose from the box should have a significant amount of water moving through it depending on RPM's or the water source you have it hooked to. I can't tell you more detail on water level. I don't know for sure. When mine is hooked up to flush hose, it sprays a significant amount of water out of the exhaust.

Great video, I have a Sea Doo GTX RFI (1999). I have had a cooling issue since I got it the high temp alarm goes off after about .5 miles of riding. It cools down quickly at idle. I watched your cooling testing video and cannot find any obstructions. Neighbor is a jet ski guy and told me the flush valve on back where hose connect should be closed while running and it has been bothering me. Just watched this one and you don’t have a valve so it’s always open! Is this the same with the GTX as would make perfect sense as to why it gets hot! The flush port stays open while running…?

I would suggest watching one of my other vids: "Sea-Doo GTI - How to Troubleshoot Overheating". In this vid, you will see a problem I had with some o-rings/flanges in the jet housing. Mine was doing the same as yours. Overheats after five minutes. I found a problem that could very easily overlooked. I describe the parts that were causing the issue at about the 8 minute mark. Easy fix. Good luck!

@@paulhaines5755 I will check it out, going to run mine today and see if I get lucky it only has 100hrs on it. The big line coming off cylinder head goes to the flush port and is teed off to a small line going to exhaust, If only 1/3 of the water is getting out then prob should overheat. I was worried about dumping to much water and no cooling going to the exhaust. Will see, thanks again.

@@paulhaines5755 Hey Paul, lucky me after hours and hours of trying to find the issue online and with my head stuck in the ski that’s exactly what it was. Only issue is the tell tale doesn’t have any water coming out at idle, I can turn the flush valve down about 1/4 a turn and it does but either way it shows after 1/3 throttle. I assume the water box is so restricted all that water cannot escape fast enough. Just glad I didn’t blow a hose or head gasket. I was worried that opening it could over heat the water box/exhaust or would have tried before I spent another 5hrs trying things. Alas your video showed me when yours didn’t have a quick connect flush port. Ski runs strong only has 103hrs on it and looks like it’s 3 y old it’s in amazing condition. Doesn’t see to be many older skis for sale let alone in this condition. Wife and kid don’t seem interested so probably going to put up for sale, any idea what this ski is worth? It’s a 1999 sea doo GTX RFI with barely a scratch on the hull and you could eat off the engine. Fresh water used ski until the last 2 hours. $3500 maybe?? Thanks again for your help, quick response and great videos!

Depends where you live I guess. $3500 seems a great place to start. As for tell-tale, watch my video about increasing your sea-doo tell tale stream on my channel. Well done. All of the safety switches need to be happy in order for the power to get to the starter. I'm all for the safety switches. Safety is important when using these machines. A scary number of people have been injured as a result of disabling these safety switches. Just sayin. Once you understand how the system works, it's a breeze to systematically check for power at each switch when it doesn't want to start. That little bit of effort is a lot better than backing over your dog or accidentally cutting toes off - yours or others. I get it, some of these safety features can be a pain but they're there for a reason. Be safe out there guys. Happy mowing.
