One more thing you can do is, break down the sharp edge of the piston shaft, which is the “knife” that cuts into the body.

My friend you did a great job the od servo bore broke off and fell on the ground when we removed the servo case ?am i doomed or can i just replace the bore without messing with the bands???wish i knew you

I was told by ford that doing this will cause more issues then fixed! But that is to be expected by the Dealership!

Transmission repair shops use thos set up when rebuilt transmissions.

Your great at what you do, am amazed, i have question for you, i have 02 explorer that i have to rev it up on 1st gear all the way to 25mph to make it shift into 3rd, it basicly skips second gear, any idea what it might be? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

I wonder why ford used the 5 speed on v-8 mountaineers and aviators and used 6 speeds on the v-8 explorers. The 6 speeds seem to have a lot less issues.

I’ve read that brass sleeves wore faster, is it true? how many miles will it last? Im just trying to understand what’s better

I've Had pretty good luck with brass sleeves. I think success or effectiveness is quite good.

Thanks! Great video! I have a question.. Is it possible to replace the OD band without removing the internals of the transmission?? That means is there enough room to remove the old band and then install or wrap a new band around the drum while it is still in the case?? Thanks Much in Advance for your patience!

Font band you can replace it without removing the servo pin/piston on the side of the case. Just got to watch that anchor pin it might fall out when you loosen the band adjustment screw on the side of the case. 2nd band in center of the case....no way....have to get into there pretty deep to get to that band;{ Good luck!

I wonder why the kit has brass sleeves instead of steel sleeves? The brass will wear out as fast or fasster than the aluminum case.

Well, brass is certainly softer than steel but it has self lubricating properties. It could actually be a type of bronze alloy too (I don't know, I have never used the kit). I recall having a semi long conversation with an old timer about this and questioning why bronze gears would be used instead of steel. The old timer told me that bronze offered a cusioning effect (I.E. reduction in sheering forces). It also has a self lubricating effect like brass. Put simply the Rockwell hardness of steel is higher but more brittle. An example of this is the gear drives on rear tine tillers. A steel gear would likely last a lot longer but because it has no cushion if you hit a rock and have a abrupt stop you run the risk of breaking a shaft. The bronze gear will fail saving the drive shaft or possibly crank shaft. The gear easier to replace than the other components. Considering the application here and the forces involved I doubt that the brass insert lifespan would be much shorter than steel and has the added bonus of being less likely to bind up than a steel insert. The folks who built this kit seem to know what they are doing and steel would likely be cheaper than brass so I imagine they have a good reason for using it. Just my two cents.

Brass is a harder than aluminum and has self lubricating properties so it will wear better. If the aluminum housing lasted 75-100K miles before it wore out, the brass sleeve will last 150-200K miles or more. The better question is, why didn’t Ford spend an extra 50 cents per transmission and use brass bushings when they built them?

yes you have to pull the transmission and disassemble it as well to drill out the bores. Try the servo repair kit at AJ1E Superior Solutions. You wont need to pull the trans, you can do the repair in vehicle and they have an instructional video.

Slamming into 2nd gear....lazy shift to 2nd a lot.

TVWXMAN32 mine shift to 2nd gear but I have to rev up the engine up to 5k to shift to 3rd ,happen a lot in the city but drive fine on the highway

those kits only last so long tho and you have to pull the trans out there's some kit you don't have to do all that I can't remember what brand

I tried one of those "servo repair seals kit" without taking the tranny apart. It did not last. It trashed the seals because the bore was so mad it put cuts in the seals.
