Excellent work. You seem like a very good tech, what did you use to get those cam seals out? The miller SST or just a seal puller?

Good video. I have had two of these, and the water pumps failed before the recommended change of the timing belt, so I agree that it is better to do it before the recommend change interval, even if it seems fine.

Isn't this a non interference engine? Meaning the pistons cannot touch the valves even though the timing belt is off completely.
@MastermindDenver
@MastermindDenver 8 жыл бұрын
+Taco Worstofall Yes the 2.4 is a non interference engine. However if there are large carbon deposits on the pistons valves can be bent by hitting carbon filled valve recesses. 9 out of 10 times there are no bent valves when the 2.4 belt breaks, this is not the case with the 2.0 it always bends valves.

And this is EXACTLY why engines should NOT RELY belts for internal moving parts, you CAN NOT go wrong with a steel gear and chain setup, I've seen Chevy blocks with hundreds of thousand miles(300k +) and never have a timing chain issue... Chevy Muscle!
@MastermindDenver
@MastermindDenver 10 жыл бұрын
Yes, the simple 2 gears and 1 chain of a OHV SBC are extremely dependable. However, not even Chevy has been able to design a timing chain setup for an OHC engine with the same results. OHV (2 gears/1 chain/No chains or tensioners) OHC (Multiple gears/Multiple chains/Tensioners/Guides, etc.) I have not seen very many DOHC timing chain driven engines that can go over 150K without timing chain replacement or repair.

GREAT VIDEO! Which pump and belt kit did you use? I'm considering the Ebay $65 Gates TCKWP265. Or $103 Gates TCKWP265A. with bracket. Does it always need a new bracket? I've changed several timing belt water pump setups like this. A 2008 Aveo for my brother to name one. I just don't know which kit to use on the 2003 2.4l PT Cruiser Touring car I just bought for only $900 tonight. It only has 79k miles but the belt is broken. Hopefully the valves didn't hit. Compression is good on all cylinders.

Thank you! We're glad you enjoyed the video. We prefer AISIN timing belt kits. They have proven to us to be reliable time and time again. You don't have to change the bracket most times. Replacing the bracket just makes for a more complete job.

hello mastermind I have a Chrysler Sebring 2003 for some reason I'm losing some coolant what do you think is the problem.
@MastermindDenver
@MastermindDenver 9 жыл бұрын
jeffrey sanders Unfortunately, it could be leaking from one of many different places. The most common places for leaks are the radiator and water pump. We would have to see your car to determine where it is leaking from.

my 2006 sebring with the 2.4 is making a whining/whistling sound at idle and low rpms. it has 96,000 miles on it and hasn't had the timing belt done on it yet. could that be the problem?

+clasota15 Yes a loose belt can hit the cover and make noise, I would have to hear it myself to say for sure.

Hello, got a question.... i have a 2003 sebring convertible lxi... i bought last year..and i noticed that the oil light goes on at idle when the car is warmed up after about 10 minutes or so....so i brought it to a mechanic and they did an engine flush,changed the oil sensor,and gave it a new oil change with an oil stabilizer.....didnt have a problem with it all summer last year....it sat for the winter (here in Vermont) and i just recently took it out for the summer again this year, drove it a couple of times and then the oil light started to come back on (when the cars at idle,and warms up) when i drive the car the oil light shuts off!! Weird!! do you have any idea why this is happening? it has about 105,000 miles on it.... and runs awesome!! no knocking or anything!! very quiet car! any idea what i should do??? many thanks ~Doug

Sounds like you have a bad oil pump or the pressure relief valve (in the oil pump) is stuck open. An actual oil pressure test needs to be performed where a mechanical oil gauge is installed where the pressure sensor goes. This way you will know if the light is being honest with you. If you do actually have low oil pressure, change your oil pump.

I have a Mitsubishi 2.4l i4, I'm sure the timing belt is broken as the cam is not turning with the engine when I try to start. Everything I've seen says that, this engine is an interference style. The car was running, but was making a clunk about every other revolution of the engine, I shut it off and let it cool for a bit (temp started climbing slowly too) and when tried to restart it wouldn't. Since it was at idle, and I still had fire/air/comp when engine was running, what are the chances that I have valve/piston damage? I was going to check compression but with the cam not spinning I can't. Thank you for the video!
@MastermindDenver
@MastermindDenver 9 жыл бұрын
Your welcome! The 2.4 is a non-interference engine (technically) unless excessive carbon buildup is present. There is also a very slight chance that valves will hit each other, but it is very rare.

I have a question? I have same Chrysler Sebring 2004. 2.4 and before my car died. it was overheating and cutting off. Ive had coolant leaking soons I put in. tried jumps. new alternator. it won't start. what should I do now? any suggestions?
@MastermindDenver

Get it diagnosed by an ASE certified technician, not just a parts changer. Many so called "mechanics" will just start changing parts until they get lucky. A technician will find the cause of the problem. Once you find the true cause of the problem, you can replace only what's needed.

i have a sebring 2004 2.4L. my question is. if the timing belt broke's. can be broken the valves too?
@MastermindDenver
@MastermindDenver 10 жыл бұрын
Technically, the 2.4L engine is a non interference motor meaning valves will not hit the pistons unless their have been modifications or excessive carbon buildup on the pistons. However, it is possible for intake and exhaust valves to collide under extreme conditions (i.e. high RPMs, etc.). Most times the 2.4 engine is ok after a timing belt breaks. The 2.0 engine never lives through a broken timing belt.

I have a 2010 Sebring with the 3.5 v6 in it. Chrysler says to change the timing belt at 102000 miles. Is the timing belt on the 3.5 reliable or should I worry about it? I currently have 54000 miles on it.

Th3p0lic3 The complete timing belt service including all necessary components - your timing belt, idler pulley, timing belt tension assembly w/bracket, water pump, seals and new coolant is $995 parts and labor. This estimate includes all OEM Chrysler parts and a warranty, too. If you mention this youtube video, you get $100 off that price. Thank you for your business!

Does the timing belt for 2004 Chrysler Sebring 2.7L V-6 should be changed at 90k miles too?
@MastermindDenver
@MastermindDenver 9 жыл бұрын
Kool Acclaimed This 2.7L V6 engine has a timing chain, not a belt. Timing chains are only serviced if they are loose or noisy.

I have another question, Mastermind. If I use Mobil 1 synthetic oil rather than that conventional 5w-30 Havoline oil should I remain changing my motor oil every three months or three thousand miles or can I change it every five thousand miles or every six months, which ever comes first? And do you recommend using synthetic oil on this typical car rather than the basic oil that most people would used? After I have read so many reviews about how bad this notorious 2.7L engine is I have gotten cold feet about basic oil that is capable of producing oil sludge.
@MastermindDenver
@MastermindDenver 9 жыл бұрын
Kool Acclaimed The best thing you can do with that engine is to run high quality conventional oil like Valvoline or Castrol with a BG MOA at each oil change. BG MOA extends the life of your conventional oil to 5,000 miles, but you must use a high quality oil filter to do this. We recommend K&N or Purolator PureOne filter. This is the same oil change service we use for our high performance race motors. If you have sludge in your engine now, you may want to do a BG Engine Flush.

Mastermind Denver - I have one last question: my air condition (blows out hot air rather than cold air as a normal air condition should) and when I have the air condition or defrost on -- even though my a/c doesn't blow cold air -- the vehicle will squeal and it will have a rough idle up to 4k rpm. With that said, do you think it is the a/c compressor that should be replaced (because I recharged the system with 134-a refrigerant and it still blows hot air) and do you think the idling come from a faulty idle air control valve that should be cleaned or replaced? And thanks for your precised answer pertaining to the oil.
@MastermindDenver
@MastermindDenver 9 жыл бұрын
Kool Acclaimed Your welcome! Happy we could help. Unfortunately, we would have to see your car to help you with your a/c system. As for the idle and the noise, try disconnecting the electrical connector or removing the a/c fuse to see if those problems go away. You probably have a bad a/c compressor.
