Nice video, I have a 2002 ford focus zetec 1.6, just bought it used for cheap with 110k on the clock. It judders everytime I try to put the power down (smooth in idle though), I can only get a slightly smooth (but still shaky) drive out of it in all the gears, somebody told me it might be the coil pack as its a common problem with the old focus. I don't know anything about car mechanics but I might try to replace myself thanks to this video.

Glad it helped! Definitely check the wires on the harness, may not even need a whole new pack! We don't have that engine in the states, if it's a regular gas engine I'd also say change the spark plugs if you haven't yet!

Robby94LS Its something like 1590cc to be exact, so we just call it a 1.6 litre here in the UK. It uses petrol/petroleum fuel. Thanks!

Hi Trooper - Did you get a fix? Mine appears to be having same issue. More noticeable when accelerating in 2nd & 3rd gear (at the lower end of the revs). I've ordered new HT leads and Coil pack......

I'm having issues with my nieces focus,same zetec 2.0 engine. It idles rough,runs rough then shuts off lol!. I put in New spark plugs because the dude at AutoZone ran the code because of the check engine light. He said it was the plugs,so I replaced them and same thing,runs terrible and check engine light is still on. I noticed that the printout said possible 02 sensor. I guess I'm changing that out now lol! Anyways loved the video, home garage mechanics RULE!

j mangi62 it’s never fun tracking down issues like that! Do you know what the code was that they pulled? Inspect the coil pack and coil pack harness. Knowing what exactly the code was will help for sure!

@@Robby94LS the code had several problems, intake air leak,egr system, misfire in no.3 cyl. And one other thing I can't remember now whew, I wish she would've consulted me before she bought it lol.

@Robby94LS

Hey, sorry, didn't see this when it came in! They're small Torx head screws, I'd just get them from the dealer. I know it's a little more money, but it's important that's mounted securely with the right hardware!

Hi guys I have 2.0k focus...... Dead fire from coil to 1 and for cha he'd coil and ht leads same story with misfire.... Connector is dead on wires 2 and 3 but there's still spark on 2 and 3 however 1 and 4 is no spark I'm really confused... Could thus happen
@Robby94LS
@Robby94LS 3 жыл бұрын
Half the coil pack could have died. Have you tried different wires to verify it’s not them? If you’ve ruled out wires, and the coil pack harness looks good, it’s most likely the coil pack, that would by my guess. If you have a friend with a focus you could swap and try, I know it’s usually no returns on those.

I purchased the new one from a Ford dealer, but it was kind of expensive. I just needed it fast. I’d check Rock Auto, 1a auto, or other aftermarket parts sites which are very good.

I'd say start with basic tune up parts, air filter, spark plugs, plug wires if you have them. In the USA we only had a 2.0 in the ZX models, the later 2.3 had coil packs but that wasn't until 2005 or so!

Thanks for watching! It's hard to say without seeing it, there are a lot of reasons that could be happening. Do you have a check engine light? Has there been any work done recently on it? How many miles do you have?? Have you checked anything yet?

Do you have a check engine light? Usually when the coil pack goes bad it will give you a check engine light. If it's running rough and there's no check engine light, I'd start with tune up parts first, spark plugs, plug wires, air filter, fuel filter. Let me know how things go for you!

What is this part called? I have a check engine light on and a a friend said a misfire code P0301 came up. Wondering if this is the issue. It is ok during park but in gear it sputters.
@Robby94LS
@Robby94LS 6 жыл бұрын
Most people call it the "coil pack" but may be listed as ignition coil. Definitely inspect the wire harness closely though, it's a much cheaper fix and seems to be a pretty common problem. Even easier and cheaper yet though, when's the last time you checked or replaced your spark plugs and plug wires? That'd be the first place I'd start with a misfire code. Good luck!

My wires are damaged, too. I don't understand how you connected the colorful wires with the new one you purchased.
@Robby94LS
@Robby94LS 7 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I should have included that! I used wire nuts, you just strip the old wire a little, hold it next to the already stripped end of the new harness, twist them together a few times and then screw the nut over them which keeps the connection secure. It's worth noting that's *not* the best way to connect it, but it's fast, cheap, easy, and works. They include what's called a butt splice connector which IS a better connection for the application, but it didn't work with how brittle the factory wires were. Soldering it is an even better option but the hardest and what requires the most equipment. Hope that's at least a little helpful for you!

Thanks a million for responding and helping me but I was thinking about stripping the wires a little and twisting them. I'm going to try it today then let you know how it goes. Thanks again.

Just make sure you cover them with some sort of insulator after that, you don't want them to ground to something in the area and give you problems. Best of luck, definitely looking forward to hearing how it goes!

Wire nuts??? Are you serious???? Crimp connectors are better than tire nuts and ideally you would solder those and use heat shrink!
@Robby94LS

You're 100% right! I didn't feel GREAT about it, but I had to get it done fast & cheap, that's what I had laying around, and it's such an old high miles car, I didn't need it to last 100K miles. I SHOULD just get some crimp connectors to keep in the tool bag!
