Man, I actually watched this game and still completely forgot they played GT. That UCONN team was stacked.

I went to GT a few years before, didn't watch college ball that year and had no idea they were in the final

UCONN 2004 - Pretty much dominated the whole season on the strength of future NBA stars Emeka Okafor & Ben Gordon along with an amazing freshman class including Josh Boone, Marcus Williams and Charlie Villanueva. Throw in the clutch outside shooting from sophomore Rashad Anderson along with incredible defense and you have arguably the best overall UCONN squad ever! They cruised to a 24-6 record and won the Big East Tournament title where they defeated Pitt who was the overall favorite going into the tournament. When the NCAA tournament started the Huskies elevated their game and defeated their opponents by an average of 15 points - their only real challenge came from the #1 seeded Duke Blue Devils in the Final Four - who they beat 79-78 to advance to the championship game.

Sad night for me but I must congratulate Connecticut on winning that game. They were the better team and showed it on the court. Maybe one day my Yellow Jackets will finally win a National Championship. (We have never won one and were only in the Final Four once before)

This game wasn't as fitting to be the Championship game as their match against Duke in the Semifinals. That seemed like a final game for 2004.

This was the first NCAA Title game I remember watching. I was a kid and had only started following college sports in 2003 and I was engrossed in the tournament once it happened. UVA was (and still is) my team, so I was rooting hard for GT, for the sake of the ACC. It's hard to imagine either of these teams making a similar run given their current state, but this is a lot of fun to look back on

@ChainGangSoulja266 Yeah dude UNC is the #1 favorite. I never had a problem with UNC I actually picked them to win in 05 08 and 09 so I was happy 2 of the 3 times but I think they are no doubt the favorite this year. UConn could maybe crack top 10 if Napier Oriakhi Lamb and Smith take the next step maybe top 5.
@jimmyrustled2493 Жыл бұрын
You were right. Napier Jeremy lamb won a championship against Kentucky
