I been a mechanic for about 60 years. I don't understand what's so difficult about pulling a battery, fan assy and radiator from the top using power tools and drinking coffee compared to hassling an tussling on your back on the ground. Give me the radiator option ANY DAY!... I'll leave the ground hog work to people like you to struggle through life. :D

The radiator option is the best way to go about it

Brian Clark thanks Brian, that helped me a lot. I took the radiator out AND moved the a/c compressor and it was one of the most difficult jobs I've encountered due to poor tool access and clearances. I hate that tensioner bracket. I can't wait to sell it and get a Toyota or Honda. It bears repeating, I will never buy another one of these pieces of shit again.

Just did an '05 Murano at my cousin's place. Your video helped for sure, but I couldn't get the alternator out. I didn't have enough room between the oil pan and sub frame/frame no matter how many times I rotated the alternator. Ended up just depleting the freon and detached the A/C hoses from the compressor and pulled the alternator and compressor out from the side. Did not want to do the alternate method of taking the radiator and battery tray out after getting this far. Took me a total of 8 hours.

Thanx Brian, I tried this and it worked for me. Took 4 hrs to get it out tho. Some tricky fastener removal/replacements and i made some rookie errors along the way. Honestly couldn't recommend it but i was happy to not need to drain the radiator etc.
@robertgaudry37224 жыл бұрын
I too couldn’t get the alternator through the hole on the bottom. The missing piece of information is that you need to take alternator pulley off the alternator, then it will fit down with the shaft pointing to the front or back of the car.

I'm trying your method now dude, last time I replace the alternator in my girlfriend's Nissan Murano, I had to take out the radiator and it was a huuuge hassle trying to get it back in place from the top. this method should allow for extra room from the bottom to hold it in place while I get the bolt back in, I appreciate your video so thank you

I just finished doing it this way and let me say it's a big pain . I think if I would have pulled the radiator out it would have been much faster and on top of that I broke one of the bolts that hold the engine frame in place . Thanx for the tip. Wish I never seen this video.😤

I know, I'm in Oregon and all my family in Texas. My brother is a mechanic. He told me I bought the worst car in the world! I was hoping that you have the full video of everything you did as I think I am gonna have to do it myself? Thank you
@brianclark46153 жыл бұрын
This the only part of the jobbi filmed. Some others were successful with this method, others not. If you can trade it in I would. I was told that the CVT died shortly after the alternator...
@TY-mx9fr3 жыл бұрын
@@brianclark4615 I wanted to fix it, then put up for sale? Will the code machine tell me exactly what is wrong with it? Also, what did the car do that let you know the alternator was broken? What problems were you having? I just want to know a little before taking to mechanic. A lot of them cheat and over charge, especially women. If you can let me know I appreciate it? Thank you very much. Be safe, take care and God Bless
@brianclark46153 жыл бұрын
@@TY-mx9fr I tested the alternator using a clamp on ammeter, voltmeter and checked voltage out to the battery. This was after I had replaced a battery and the baf alternator killed the new battery. I also found several locations where the engine grounds to chassis were corroded. They affected the operation as well. I do not believe you will see a code for alternator but, you may be able to bring to autozone and have it checked out. They do simple tests for battery and alternator performance. I bought my alternator from rock auto. Decent prices. Good luck. I hated that vehicle. Never again will I buy a Nissan.
@brianclark46157 жыл бұрын
I had to use a pry bar to move compressor out of the way fully. it is possible that the hoses on my assembly were slightly longer and more flexible than others as I had to replace them on separate occasion due to corrosion on metal lines for coolant system. to work on this car sucks. even simple spark plug job.

Thank you for the video! Mostly for the statement, "I will never buy one of these pieces of Shit again"! I can appreciate that, but to be fair I didn't pay much for mine, and other than the leaking valve covers, the CVT transmission, the obvious, placement of the alternator, etc... it's been a great value for 2k. I am authoring this completely inebriated, as I have just removed the alternator, steam cleaned the most discussting engine compartment I have ever seen, and now getting drunk (excuse me) enough to put the new one in.

tried this method yesterday, my alternator won't fit between the cross member and the oil pan lip! What happen to the good old days when swapping an alternator took 20 mins. I spent 4 hours just trying to get this out and it 's still trapped in the bowels of the POS!
@JDorst-lo4yl7 жыл бұрын
I am ALSO trying this method, and am having the SAME problem. The compressor is completely out of the way, BUT there is NOT enough room to remove the alternator this way! The alternator will not pass in this opening as the framework and engine (by the oil pan) get in the way.
@scale4me7 жыл бұрын
Yup, remove the fan assembly ( i didn't have to unplug anything just lift up and swing over the fender, remove the battery and battery tray and you can slide the alternator past the radiator up through the hole where the battery was. Well, slide is the wrong word force the SOB past the exhaust and up through the hole. I used a piece of 1/4" plywood to protect the radiator. Don't forget to unclip the transmission cooler line that is attached to the bottom of the fan assembly. There is a video on KZfaq on how to do it this way and the factory manual also has it this way. Good luck this is a terrible project but it will go easier this way. Happy to answer any questions.

WELL, I was FINALLY able to get the old alternator out by getting as MUCH slack in the AC Compressor lines as I could, moved the Compressor OUT and to the right as far as possible (ended up removing most of the fender liner and trim near the 'opening'), AND removed the old alternator by sliding it UNDER the re-located compressor (slightly to the left of compressor) while holding up the compressor. This was NOT via the hole mentioned above, in the video, but the usual access hole used to work on the belts and pulleys.

In the process of doing this. Having issues getting one bolt off the remove the ac compressor. It is the stud with a torque end and a nut over it. It wants to round off. Any tips? Only thing I haven't tried is heat

Brian Clark any thoughts on moving the compressor out of the way? Did you have to move the metal lines? I'm sure it doesn't move out of the way just like that
@brianclark46156 жыл бұрын
Jorge Molina that is what i did. There are other posts and movies of guys who did the work same as me. Metal lines are attached to flex hoses and gave enough room for me. Not an easy job but it seems easier than how Nissan recommends
@jorgemolina69166 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your replies. I managed to get it out by a combination of doing what you did with the compressor line and I had to lower the cradle by a few inches to get enough clearance from the oil pan. Now tracing my steps back. This was a pain in the butt.

Your approach did not work for me. Two videos show this method but neither show how the AC compressor actually comes out on the side into the wheel well. I removed the radiator fans and disconnected the two coolant hoses (yes, the radiator needs to be drained). Once the radiator is disconnected the right side can be lifted to remove the alternator. A little more time but not too much.

Almost as bad as the new Ford HD pick up trucks you need to remove the grill and more just too change a head light bulb! Think of the stupidity of it. The Ford has also about 100 fuses under the hood and another 50 in the passenger kick panel area! You have to be kidding! Nissan Murano a nice car but way to expensive in maintenance.
