In this video you can see and hear a very cool 2004 Opel Vectra GTS V8 modified in order to race in the DTM championship. The car is moved by a 4.0 liter V8 DOHC engine which produces 476 bhp at 6800 rpm and a max torque of 510 Nm at 5500 rpm.

They use a Flat Plane crankshaft instead of the usual cross plane crankshaft which makes the sound we would expect from a v8. The Flat Plane looks like a slightly elongated 4 cylinder crankshaft which essentially makes the engine run like 2 separate 4 cylinder engines, fazed slightly apart and which makes for a blaring sound rather than a thumping sound :-)

And this flat-plane,specifically this one used by Opel has origins in Oldsmobile L47 block used by the Aurora model.But in DTM was tuned by Spiess (race engines tuning company that also tuned the Opel Formula 3 engine)

@@Ardonn This car never was a Vectra,it's a silhouette car that looks like a 4-door sedan (or in this case 5-door).These were the DTM rules during 2004 to 2011 PD:Yes,these cars needed rear doors only for homologation,but really it's a pure race car

kallo182 I've owned and seen different makes v-8's in my lifetime and can tell you that don't sound like a v-8 at all!Hasn' got a nice tone at all. Have a look at v-8 supercars Australia,that's how a v-8 should sound like!
