2005-2009 Ford Mustang 4.0 liter Eaton M90 supercharger install
NOTE: see my follow up video on this install after two years of use.
important update... i disclaim any issues with smog or your local smog law procedures, in calif. i would consider a no go a s of 2015 all aftermarket parts on calif vehicles require a C.A.R.B id number and this kit does not have any of that. and good luck on the other 49 states, do your research on smog before purchase!!!! This kit is in a great need for a idler pulley bracket as it has belt slip issues, I found a guy who may help us with this bracket that the maker of this kit does not yet provide, they claim they have one in the works but I haven't had any faith on what they say anymore, your pretty much on your own.

It's 2200 for the install kit then you get an Eaton m90 supercharger from ebay they are around 500 bucks. Much cheaper than x charger or vortec, you can get an Eaton m90 from an 89-94 ford thunderbird super coupe. The modbox kit does not come with the supercharger. It's alot of money for 300 rwhp.

direct bolt on supercharger system in place of stock intake manifold is the easiest and cleanest route, turbo and the detached procharger systems require more plumbing, this kit is a great entry level for the DIYer, its only fall back is belt slippage, they need a idler bracket installed in between the alternator and the super charger, they say there making one but they talk alot more than action it seems, they were suppose to sell a MAF signal reducer but never did, I had to make my own ($5) or buy the Diablo MAFia version for over $100. I have the biggest boost installed for the kit at 9.5 psi and they rate it around and add to that my water meth injection IM sure Im at 35O hp at the crank. Their intake manifold that comes with kit at 65 mm ID to match stock throttle body so a 70mm throttle body kit like BBK maybe a waste of money unless you port the intake manifold to match, I would also maybe suggest shorty headers but stock headers like rather nice to me.

So the modbox kit has a throttle body size for the stock one so I can do a 70 mm with their intake tube but what about the one that comes with the supercharger

m90 is a smaller pump and not much whine noise, I was disappointed about that so if your looking for the cool whine noise this application may not make you happy.

@@scottcooper6843 I've heard some seriously loud m90 combos. You can spin them very high. My m90 blower will turn over 16k Rpm at redline and should scream.

Did you have to tune your car before driving it after the instal? If so what did you use because I plan on doing the same

I didnt have to do a Dyno tune, I did an email tune (canned tune), I even put the stock tune and it ran fine, this has ben a very successful install for me. The biggest challenge was passing smog living in california.

since Ive put on over 2000 miles on it I know exactly if it slips or not, yes I have some slippage issues off and on in the past but for the moment its working fine but I do have plans to add another idler pulley and bracket but its not a problem now so Im not going to invest any money until A I have extra cash or B it starts slipping to the point where Im tired of playing the the serpentine belt, I tried one of those new belts from Gates claim to be exclusively for superchargers and it slipped more than any other belt I put on, so far the best belt is the continental elite poly v belt

update, I added a bracket and added one more idler pulley and belt slippage is now gone. bought the bracket from a guy who was selling it to X-Charger supercharger folks, a competitor to this kit I have.

Awesome video! Im eager to get my 4.0 supercharged! So after seeing your video...i reached out to the Canadian company and they replied quickly with a link to the installation kit and all the info thats needed(parts,photos, and installation steps)... I've also found many Easton M90 superchargers....My question is where did you obtain that aluminum plate bracket from??

How has your experience with the kit been? I just bought my kit for my 01 explorer and plan on installing in about a month. I also live in CA. I don't think our vehicles will pas the visual instpection haha

yes wont pass smog without a calif C.A.R.B# (if you live in Cally), belt wrap is an issue with the kit, maybe different in the explorer though. and I dont like where you have to use silicone to seal the kit, I wish it had gaskets or utilize FORD OEM seals, other than that the kit Im happy with.

+soupercooper I think rtv was used to keep costs down. What do you mean by belt wrap?

belt wrap is how much surface area contact of belt with pulley, if not enough wrap belt will slip, and it has been a problem with this kit, Ive been told by manufacturer that they are working on that problem by adding another idler pulley and bracket, but dont quote me on that. cutting costs is okay until it creates poor design, need a balance between cost and design.

Oh I understand now. Yeah that was a concern of mine as well. Especially with the alternator. Well, it's nice to know that they are still creating products for these applications

its a partial kit, its a DIYer kit, you must purchase the supercharger separate of which you cant purchase new anymore, the best donor car is a Ford Superbird, but to answer your question the majority of the kit required comes from Moddbox out of Canada, google Moddbox website is modd.me

I'm considering this kit for my car. How difficult and or time consuming was the install? Any ideas on power numbers? How does the car drive now compared to the stock N/A engine? Lastly, what are your overall impressions of this design and kit? (should I do it or go another route?...)

I cant give you any HP or torque values since I cant find a dyno in Northern Calif. to deal with a V6 for some reason? It takes more work than a usual kit as its budget style build. I rate it 7 out of 10 in design and satisfaction but Im a perfectionist. I wasnt happy until I installed the 9.5 pSI pully, it came with more than one pulley, with a range of 5, 8 and 9.5 psi. I have belt slip problems as I feel it need an additional idler pulley to give the alternator more belt wrap, but all in all for the money its a great value BUT you need to find your own EATON M90 superchargers, you need to find one on ebay or craigslist or where ever. I wanted to hear that iconic whine sound of which I never really heard until I put on the 9.5 psi pulley, I feel the kit doesnt really come to life until you use the 9.5 psi pulley but thats just me, I used water methanol injection option instead of the intercooler option as well.

So you recomend the kit with a 9.5 pulley? From behind the wheel, can you feel a large difference? I do some autocross and road course racing and I have 4.10 gears. Would this kit pair well with my shorter gears? I apologize for all the questions, but I have never found someone who has installed this on a mustang. Only ford rangers!

I cant even take my car to wide open throttle because I cant find ANYONE in Northern Calif to dyno my car, I suggest having buying the SCT brand tuner since thats what most tuners support and go with suggested tuner from the kit manufacturer and start with canned tunes? I have two hurdles, one I have a diablo tuner of which no one uses and two I have a V6 of which no one wants to put on their dyno.

I have an SCT from Bama tunes. I read on the moddbox site that they can walk the customer through tunning from a laptop? Have you tried this?

yeah your better off with a sct tuner widely accepted and they can walk you through though i have zero experience with their recommended tuner as i had no sct tuner but instead a diablo tuner so i had to take a different route, if i had to start over id use a sct tuner. but ultimately you need to go to a dyno to get the full potential of power, a email tune to get you rolling to drive to a tuner, but some have successfully gone with just email tunes its worth a try for sure, sorry for the typo meant to say V6, its corrected

are you talking about the mounting brkt or are you talking about the electronics board that gives you a wider signal range?

@@jordanhart5195 i got got all this info initially from the guy who sells the kit. he gave me a diagram of what size resistors to use. its just two resistors that create a voltage multiplier. he has the schematics. if he cant help you then I can try to help

I actually removed that circuit board (2 reisistors) to pass california smog test and it works fine without that mod but best to include it if you can

no I did nothing with inside of engine. I dont push it very hard, I rarely drive this car, its a show car. but once a year I puh it hard at monterey car week and Ive never had any issues of any kind with engine, this is a tougher engine than you think.

no dyno numbers, I cant find anyone to dyno my car in Northern California, no one has experience with a supercharged V6 and they just dont want to learn so Im stuck using a canned tune from the people who sell the kit, on their website they recommend a tuner to deal with but its a canned tune. One of my fallbacks is I have a diablo tuner and no one uses diable much it seems, so I have to buy a SCT tuner to perhaps find someone to dyno my V6.

soupercooper ahh ok. i know vmp tuning does good work and can remotely tune it i believe.id try there also. and thats amazing that shops wont do it. just like here in washington, a turbo shop wouldnt even give me a quote to turbo my 4.0. said it sould cost too much lol. when im the one paying. but how is it to drive? i am not sure which route i wanna go but this or a custom turbo would be the cheapest
